Did they actually take the money or did they just allocate it? When you pay with a debit card the company puts a hold on the money for a period before they actually take it in order to ensure it will be there when they do ship.

The money has left my account. I've never had a payment taken before the goods ship. That's not how banks work over here.

Also, I've just checked the timing on my powerbook last year and they sent me the dispatch email on a Friday but didn't take the funds until Monday.

I am in the UK too. When I order stuff from Apple sometime later they make a lock on the amount. So my available balance goes down by the amount they will take. However, the money doesn't actually come out my account until after the thing ships. At that point the subtraction appears on my statement like...

Apple Computers -£1,042.54

Until you see it on the statement the money isn't actually taken. So did you get a statement entry?

I really question these people that claim they had Feb. 7 ship date. Post a screen capture of the emials from apple.

Read my original post. It's not on my statement yet but, in my experience, when the funds become unavailable (e.g. the available balance goes down) it's on its way.

Ah ok. My experience is the opposite - that when the funds become unavailable it doesn't imply a shipment is imminent.

However, you might be right... we'll just have to wait and see I guess

cal6n, give up your hope. What happened to you happened to most of us. Your money is not actually taken. That the available balance goes down means nothing.

Spotlight missed one of the emails. Just for the sake of completeness here is the confirmation email I received on the 10th Jan. You can see at the bottom the original ship date is 7th Feb.

That doesn't happen in this country in this type of account.

Yeah the hold on the funds is probably part of a systematic process that happens to everyone this close to their estimated ship date. It doesn't mean it won't get pushed back further. But like stated above, lets hope they do start shipping, altho I would feel bad for everyone who got pushed back that ordered earlier.

I'm not actually with a bank. It's a fully mutual Building Society and they have different policies regarding their members' (not customers') money. So, we will indeed have to wait and see but I'm pretty confident. I've never (and I do mean never) had money leave my account temporarily, although I am prepared to concede that I could have just been lucky up to now.

Ok, just documenting what just happened.

Feb 12, 2006 9:40pm EST

I called Apple at 1-800-MY-APPLE pressed 1 then pressed 3 to get to sales

Kevin answers the phone: Hi...what can I help you with today?
Me: Hi, I was just wanting to check the status on an order of mine.
Kevin: Do you have access to the internet?
Me: I am sorry but I do not.
Kevin: Ok, lets see what we can do here. Can I have your web order number?
Me: W1..
Kevin: Wait just one second. I am pulling my thing up right now. Ok and that was.
Me: W1.....3. It is a MacBook Pro and I was just wanting to know if it was shipping on time.
Kevin: Alright. It shows that there are no delays.
Me: Well, I was really wanting to know if any were delayed.
Kevin: We, you should recieve yours on the 23. It will ship out of our warehouse on Wed and arrive at your place on Tues.
Me: So they are going to be shipping on time?
Kevin: They have already been shipping.
Me: Thank you that is great news.
Kevin: Have a good day and thank you for choosing Apple.
(END)

Now was that not just a load of Horse S#$%?

Now was that not just a load of Horse S#$%?

Did this call take place on Feb. 2nd or Feb. 12th? Just wanting to double check? Thanks.

Sorry about that typo. I fixed it. Yeah, it happened Feb. 12, 2006 ... about 24 minutes ago.

Ok that makes more sense then. However, I was told the same, if not more promising news, on the 7th when mine was due to ship on the 10th and we all know how that turned out :(.

Yeah, but I am going to try and use this to get them to upgrade my shipping for free. Hopefully they will do that considering if I do not get it in the next two weeks I am going to be renting a computer for a few days. And that is going to suck. I think upgraded shipping is just the least that they can do to compensate for the lost time and money. After all I have a direct statement that they are shipping and that I will have mine on the 23 at the latest. He said it will be leaving there warehouse on Wed. That sounds pretty sure and finite to me.

What a load of crap. I can also envision that guy looking at the same Order Status page that we are looking at.

My ship date is currently February 28th and it has stayed constant for the past week. I hope it'll ship out then. I really want to get it before my vacation in March.

This is insane. I'd love to know what the heck is going on at Apple's assembly plant. Does the thing not work or something?
