My finger is on the button of ordering a brand-new MacBook Pro 1.67GHz (bog standard). However, I really don't/can't (school work!) wait the quoted 3-4 weeks for it. Is there any chance of getting it before that?

Is this a relastic time? What is the latest date of anyone here? If I can't get it before mid-March, it'll be a PowerBook or Vaio for me!

Thanks

Seb

If you are just ordering right now then there is basically no chance of you getting it before 3-4 weeks. Even people who ordered in January might not get it in that time.

Honestly, its hard to say. Officials have announced that they are having MacBook Pro shortage. The first batch of shipment was supposed to be shipped on Feb 7th and even that got pushed back. If u order your macbook pro today, i'm guessing you will get it in 1 month or longer.:(

Order ur macbook pro and be patient like rest of us. If u are considering to buy macbook pro, then dont even think of Sony Vio or other Windows Machines.

thanks maverick808. If they give you a shipping date of March 10, this must mean that the machines are FAR from ready i guess. Otherwise why would they give you a date so far in the future. Now the question is whether the March 10 thing is limited to people with your configuration, or not. I have ordered a 1.67GHz with 2x512MB. Mine still shows Feb. 15. If other people with your configuration also have Feb. 15, Apple is obviously witholding the truth from them. If other people with my configuration have shipping dates later than Feb. 15, Apple is witholding the truth from people like me. I think this question (whether Apple is not informing their customers as early as possible about delays) is what we should try to figure out on this forum. So please people let us know your configurations and current estimated ship times. Thanks.

Well I've now resigned myself to at least a couple of weeks of more waiting for my machine so I'm in no rush. In any event there will be a ton of either very happy or very annoyed people with lots to say on Wednesday.

I second that.

Hi. I'm the original poster from last night. I know that the money has left my account.

While I certainly hope that yours is on the way, you're mistaken that UK businesses can only take the money once it's shipped. There are several instances where that doesn't apply (and it's a best practice guideline rather than law IIRC). If you've ordered an bespoke item (which a BTO would be), the company can take the money as soon as you place the order so they can begin processing your bespoke item.

I have a Building Society account too, in addition to my bank account, and I have seen items authorised against it before they ship out and the cash become available again once the authorisation lapses.

Since you want a standard config, I'd wait and see if you can pick up one at an Apple store. They are supposed to be getting them in stock this month, but I'm sure quantities will be limited. That is probably your best bet.

I know of one 1.83 GHz order, all standard configuration, placed on Jan. 10 here in the US, which still has a shipping date of Feb. 15. So there are three possibilities,
1) it is the 7200rpm drive that makes maverick's order delayed.
2) Apple is waiting for the 15th to tell us of the delay to March 10.
3) US customers are somehow preferred over UK customers (contrary to what the supervisor told maverick).

If 1), I'm sorry for people like Maverick, if 2), I think some people at Apple should feel really ashamed, if 3) this would be quite unfair.

LoopRumors says this week. I assume they must have heard some extra confirmation from someone with a MacBook Pro on order?

http://looprumors.com/index.php?macbook-pro-to-ship-this-week

Or maybe it means nothing. Any confirmation from anyone here?

Now bring on more models and more choices :) Big, small, cheap, souped-up, white, black, whatever they've got in store! (Is Core Solo about ready yet?)

March 10, maybe

Update about the apparent discreptancy between US and UK ship dates: I got a hold of an honest Apple supervisor and in his opinion Apple US is basically just waiting for Feb. 15 to tell its customers that their orders will be delayed to March 10, just like in the UK. Quite sad.

From the new guy...

New member to these forums... I was just browsing around for any info about MacBooks shipping.

Ordered very shortly after the keynote, BTO, and still set for the 15th. I guess I won't know for sure until Wednesday.

It's going to be a long 2 days. Did Apple UK change the order status page the morning of the 7th/10th, or did it take until later in the day?

It changed mid afternoon on both the 7th and 10th. I'd say about 2 or 3pm UK time.

I bet if I had called up on the morning of either of those days I would have been told "yeah, it's shipping later today".

Thanks for keeping us updated, maverick. I'll be sure to post my experiences as the 15th comes and goes as well.

Did you ask him why they just now put authorizations on people's credit cards?

I understand that occurring at the time of placing the order, or shortly before shipping, but I doubt they'd do that to keep up a pretense.

(Please note I am assuming a connection between the shipping and the billing i.e. that billing isn't running on autopilot while manufacturing/shipping has put the brakes on.)

I think its like what you said, that Billing is on autopilot going by the estimated ship date until its pushed back officially. Where holds will be placed until the actual ship, but if its pushed back til March, then those holds will be removed until a few days before the new ship date.

delay confirmed

Just spoke to an apple representative and he told me that my order is scheduled for shipping on the 15th but there will be an expected delay until March. Sorry to be the bringer of bad news.

We figured out earlier in this forum that there's no connection between putting authorizations on people's credit/debit cards and shipping date. They checked my debit card already a few weeks ago.

Honestly, from looking at postings #271, #283, #285, and #286, to me it is quite obvious that there's no hope for Feb. 15 shipping anywhere. We should start digesting what Apple customer service is witholding from us.

all hope seems to be leaving me... It will be interesting to see what excuse they use on the 15 though...

If they really are pushed back until March than I am out. I will give it until the end of this week to ship. But I mean come on it's been a month since they were announced, the case design is nearly the same as before (no trouble with them) , other Core Duo processor machines are shipping (iMac) (no trouble with them), really what could the hold up be? I am still betting that they will be shipping come wednesday but God help me if they don't!!

I'll believe it when the 15th passes with no shipment notice. I did what I said I wasn't going to do and called Apple. I explained to the guy that I had been reading reports that there would be a delay in MacBook Pro deliveries and he told me that as far as my order said it's still scheduled for the 15th. He also said that no supervisors had told them to expect any delays and that CSRs have not been told to expect a delay.

As many have said, I'm not at all convinced that they know anything that we don't at this point, so I'm certainly not willing to wager on the accuracy of this information. I at least thought it was worth sharing what I was told.

I dunno why we are fretting so much about this.. All I know is i'm glad I have been financially able to hold on to the Powerbook until I get the Macbook. I would not be happy if the MacBook arrived with a widespread problem and I didn't have a fallback machine for work and class.

I for one will wait it out, no matter how painful it is. I know what type of system I want and the Macbook Pro fits the bill. Plus I have already bought memory and other goodies to go along with it. :(
