I wish MacRumors required that everyone who posts some ridiculous claim posts their reputable source on the subject.

Chipset shortage?

No way, it's totally a display clasp shortage!

It has been everywhere on the news for months. Just google for it.

I was going to order one, and I am glad I am waiting until the next revelation of the MBP. If the 15th comes and goes with no shipments, I would have cancelled my order and told them to stick it. Back to a Thinkpad or Sony I would have gone.

Right. You are going to go back to a virus prone, hack haven, blue screen of death OS that Windows XP is because the MBP doesn't ship on the 15th, even when you don't even have one on order. Sure.

Talk about pot calling the kettle black. It's actually the feet on the bottom of the MacBook Pro that's holding things up. Some will only ship with 2 and you'll have to purchase 2 others in a few months when they become available. :p

I would think that the iMac would have the same Chipset and it don't look to having the setbacks that the MacBook Pro is having.

The IMac is shipping with the 945GM, even if the integrated graphics is not used. I imagine they would have put the 945PM, which does not include the graphics if they could get hold of it. The MacBook could well be qualified with the PM.

Thanks for clearing that up.

The PM costs $4 less than the GM.

Apple/Steve Jobs NEVER promised they'd ship YOUR or MY unit in Feb. The promise was that the MBP would ship in Feb. To who the MBP would ship to in Feb Apple never said. Moreover, the dates given on your "Order Status" page clearly say "estimated shipped by," and "estimated delivered by." Estimates are not concrete. I'd think this would be obviously, but clearly it's not.

As long as Walt Mossberg gets his, Steve can claim a "win" :)

any news from maverick808

Hi maverick808, if I'm not counting wrong you should have spoken to Apple specialists about your delay to March almost 2 hours ago. I can't wait to hear what you found out, if it's anything.

So how many people are getting ready to cancel and go the iMac route? Thats what I did, I'm gonna go ahead and wait til Merom at the earliest now, using the iMac as a holdover machine.

Not me, but I may be able to talk myself into adding an iMac in a few months after my wallet stops bleeding. :)

Just called my credit card company...

to make sure that my limit is set high enough, so that the order would definitely go through, (Because when Apple did the "preauth" while I was ordering, it didn't work and I had to call the credit card company to confirm.)
the lady on the phone said "You don't have to worry about it, the amount has already been charged on 11th of February" .

What does that mean?? I heard Apple doesn't charge you until the product has shipped or will ship really soon. Is that true?

Because then things look really promising I think. :D

By the way I ordered on January 11th, standard 1,83 Ghz with 7200rpm HDD.

Same for me... I'm definitely not cancelling after having waited so long already and my initial estimated ship date isn't even here yet... but my addition will be an Intel PowerMac (or whatever the new name is).

I've got a 20" iMac G4. I've already played the "crap! I have a gorgeous screen attached to a nearly obsolete unportable computer" game and lost. My iBook G3 600Mhz gets tons of usage even though it's much slower because of it's portability.

Now if a Core Duo Mac Mini came out I'd be tempted :)

I just called my credit card company and they said they don't even have an authorization! I also ordered on Jan 11, standard 1.83 Ghz with the regular HDD!!! Oh no!

payment rumors

Hi everybody, could you please only inform us about what's happening with your bank accounts if you know FOR SURE (!!) that the money has been drawn and it was not just a check by Apple that you have enough on the account? This would lessen unnecessary confusion on this forum. So far there seems to be not a single user who is sure that the money has actually left her/his account. Thanks.

Ok, so I called them again. And the lady I talked to earlier was wrong.
It was just the authorization that happened on the 11th of february. (Not the pre authorization, that one was on 11th of January) And the guy that I talked to now, said this authorization usually happens a few days before the actual booking is done.

So things are not as godd as I thought , but still fairly promising.

Let's just hope wednesday will come out as we hope...

Ok well a supervisor called me so I have an update.

Firstly, he said that there is no way that anyone with the same spec machine who ordered after me will get their machine sent out before me regardless of where they are in the world. He said they are very strict about that and he absolutely assures me it will not happen. He did say he can't guarantee that people with different configs won't get it earlier but that's fair enough.

He said the machines simply aren't ready and if they had one in the factory in China he would have it shipped out to me within 24 hours... but they don't. He could not give me the exact reason for the delay other than saying "the machines aren't ready".

Hi. I'm the original poster from last night. I know that the money has left my account. I've been with my Building Society for many years and this is the way they do business. The available balance is exactly that, no "pre-authorisations", no checks by payees, just the money that is in the account. Any checks or "pre-authorisations" that occur are invisible to me unless I phone to enquire. This has happened many times before. When my balance drops the payment has been made and that's all there is to it.

I'm sorry if this sounds dogmatic but I know how my Building Society system works. It's one of the reasons that I chose them.

Well, maybe you should call apple and figure out why exactly that the money has been taken out but you havnt had your macbook shipped yet...

My finger is on the button of ordering a brand-new MacBook Pro 1.67GHz (bog standard). However, I really don't/can't (school work!) wait the quoted 3-4 weeks for it. Is there any chance of getting it before that?

Is this a relastic time? What is the latest date of anyone here? If I can't get it before mid-March, it'll be a PowerBook or Vaio for me!

Thanks

Seb

No one knows for sure, of course... the latest estimated ship date I've seen is March 10, but who knows how realistic that is.
