I ordered the 1.67 macbook, but decided to upgrade the RAM to 2x512. It has always shown me a shipdate of Feb. 15th, and Im still hopeful that it will ship then.

Before I even ordered I called apple to see when they would be shipping, the lady told me the first week in February, obviously not the case. Called back last week, just to see if it would still be shipping on time, and the person definitely didnt know any better than we do, she just quoted my expected shipdate back to me. My fingers are still crossed though!

(BTW, I payed with my debit card, and they held the amount first, but have still not charged the card as of now.)

Err... I just called Apple and they told me that my MacBook was shipped on 2/7? Is it possible I am on a different queue because I am receiving a MacBook as part of a warranty replacement? The dude said I'd be getting a tracking number as soon as the MacBook hits the shores of the USA and is dispatched to an American carrier, but he shows it has shipped.

What. The. Hell.

Hmmm, if it did ship on the 7th then shouldn't it have reached the USA by now? Warranty replacements are always given a priority 1 in the Apple system... I have no idea what that means though or if there is a priority 0 code.

I have no idea, the guy seemed fairly confused.

uh-ho "confused" doesn't sound good. what does your account page say io_burn?? (maybe this doesn't apply to warranty replacements)

It doesn't, because it's a warranty replacement everything is done through the customer service rep. What doesn't make sense is if it did ship from China or wherever on the 7th, how would it have NOT made it to a UPS/DHL/FedEx depot in the USA by now?

Maybe I was let in on a hint of secret Apple information. Perhaps they received a shipping crate full of raw mac books sometime around the 7th and they're boxing them up to be ready to go on the 15th?

That would almost half make sense?

Don't get my hopes any higher than they already are. I'm trying to prepare myself for waiting another few weeks!

Why are we comparing this to Dell. A Dell laptop is not a Powerbook. A Dell laptop is an eyesore made to make people's lives miserable.
Because Apple is making our lives miserable with the wait! :) Actually because they are using same processors I would guess.

Amen

Amen to that. I have a dell laptop that no longer holds a charge or recognizes the touchpad or the internal speakers. Pretty sure a virus killed it some time ago.

Hence, the switch to apple.

Ah, reading this thread periodically throughout the day is such an exciting alternative to my paper on Object Oriented Databases. Oh well, I'll live without anything until it comes, seems how my Powerbook was stolen, I have nothing to hold me over :(

15th?

does anyone know if the retail locations are supposed to have them by the 15th? or is that just the date they're shipping everything to all locations, retail, residence.. etc.?

i only ask because i'm dying here... i stupidly sold off my powerbook... and had to dig some old dell out of my basement...

Dell is scheduled to ship their core duos the 21st, according to their site.

That date is for orders placed today, not orders that have been previously placed. There are people who already have Dell Core Duo based laptops, and have had them for a week or two at this point.

The thing i hate most about this is that there is some big guy at apple that knows for sure "yes they will be sent on the 15th" or "it should be sometime in march". So basically there is a huge pile of our laptops sitting in a warehouse for departure or a whole bunch of compenents laying around and we're missing a screen or a processor. I wish they would just tell us.

Well, if they happen to ship on the 15th, then they have told us. If the 15th goes by and no shipping notices go out, then we can howl and bark at the moon and organize the lynch mob to head to 1 Infinite Loop and demand Steve-o's head. :)

Some of us have already had our shipping dates pass with absolutely no explanation as to why there's been a delay. So they definitely have not told me.

You're absolutely right, maverick. I was being an elitist US-centric ******, wasn't I? I feel your pain, but at the same time, I'm hoping against hope that Apple is just screwing with UK orders and that mine will ship on time.

Seriously, good luck on yours. Have you heard of any other UK orders being pushed back all the way to March that were for stock configuration and not CTO like yours was?

Obviously, no one really knows the answer as to when the retail stores will start receiving their alotment of MacBook Pros.

However, having only recently decided to buy a MacBook Pro, I hoping the Apple retail store near my house receives them soon after the first indication of them shipping.

FWIW, I called the store and they are maintaining a list of customers interested in the MBP. I am one of 3 on the list for the 1.83Ghz model.

I have been guaranteed one of the first three 1.83Ghz MacBook Pros that arrive in the store (though I don't know which one of the 3 I am, but hopefully that doesn't matter). I am hoping that they do ship on the 15th, and that I'll receive a call on the 16th or 17th that my laptop is ready for me.

Here's hoping!

BTW, I do recommend you calling, or visiting, your local Apple store and get on their list for the model you are interested in.

Not true, my friend. Just talked to a salesman at the Apple Store Saint Louis Galleria, and they said they should have MBP's arriving sometime next week. That would fall in line with our estimated arrival date, so we'll see.

I was told the exact same thing from the Apple Store—Marlton, NJ. Here’s hoping…

No worries... even the people in the UK who have always had ship dates of the 15th seem to be dismissing or overlooking us 7th Feb people.

I don't know the configurations of the other UK people that have been delayed until March. But I haven't heard of anyone who had the 7th who hasn't had their order delayed. Surely at least one of them must have had a stock model.
