At over $3000 with applecare, I wouldn't want to even use it.

Yeah waiting is such a good idea. With the introduction of a 17 inch model and possibly a 12 or 13 inch model, the 15 inch should drop in price by atleast $200.

I wonder if they will offer that same upgrade on the iMac in the next few days, or if they will keep all those 2.16 chips for the MB Pro's. The reason I ask is because I have an iMac on order that hasn't been shipped yet.

Since the Macbook Pro is supposed to be a "Pro" machine, it makes sence for it to be faster than the iMac. Even if the Powerbooks never were.

I just spoke to Apple UK about my order and what was a 1.67 is now going to be a 1.83, just in case any UK Apple people were worried.

FYI, I'm on hold too. I've been transferred once already. They're even more confused since my order price is $1999, so they can't wrap their heads around the fact that I ordered the higher end model and got the $500 ADC discount. Will report back once I get a satisfactory answer. :)

Got an agent on the line and....

Needs to ask a supervisor

The agent put me on hold and needed to talk to a supervisor and I'm still waiting for her to get back with an answer... She got back a few minutes ago saying she's still waiting to find out! I really hope they ship out TODAy (wishful thinking, I know) since I'm going to be at a conference next week and if I don't get it by Friday, I won't get it until next Friday!!!

She came back and...

apologized for taking so long- now I can listen to contemporary rock while I wait.

I'd suggest still hearing it from them if possible, but this was just said on the IRC channel on efnet:

[08:55] <ptr__> if you ordered the top mbp, will you get the 2 ghz then?
[08:57] <nRoth> yeah they upgrade automatically, i called
[08:58] <nRoth> if you ordered a 1.67 you get a 1.83
[08:58] <nRoth> and they start shipping this week
[08:58] <nRoth> if you ordered a 1.83 you get a 2.0
[08:59] <nRoth> wow, what a suprise
[08:59] <ptr__> great

Upgrades are automatic -

1.67->1.83
1.83->2.0

Rep had no idea how that would affect shipping but the press release would indicate they're going out this week.

No idea on if the new 2.16Ghz chip would be available in the IMac- in her words "we're not aware of any plans until they announce them and sometimes not until after" (Like this morning).

It would be nice, since it is a desktop machine, if they could atleast stay at the same level. I think before the G5, they had the same stats, but I don't remember it surpassing the iMac.

LOL! thx for asking.

FWIW, I got the same response that my order for the 1.83 would automatically be upgraded to the 2.0. I also asked if that would impact shipping and he said that as far as they know it should still ship on or before tomorrow.

Woot! Thanks Apple. :)
