do you think that delay is only because you didn't order on Jan. 10?

Nope. Someone on the Apple forums posted this:

Ordered a 1.83 (now a 2) on Jan 10th at 11 am pst.

Estimated shipping now "Feb. 28th"..of course "on or before".

This is fun.

The delay is affecting everyone, it is just taking time to propogate through the system... mine just got bumped to the 28th as well, ordered on the 12th. Those who ordered on the 10th are bumped to the 23rd it seems.

Also interesting to note is that the old orders are showing a different SKU than new orders. It seems like they are going through the DB moving the old SKU to the new SKU... but the auto-estimates might be off because of the SKU changes as well.

Than it's weird that the PR said they'll begin shipping the 2.0's this week, no?

Mine was bumped to the 23rd with delivery on march 2nd. free shipping of course. My order was also changed from the 1.67 to the 1.83.

Correction on my original order time. 11:07 am day of the keynote.

Well i dont mind I get a free upgrade for an extra 8 days. Patience is a virtue. calm down guys...calm down...

So, my ship date just got bumped to February 28. My order still shows the 1.83 (what I originally ordered) but the dates moved back from February 15th. I'm pretty disappointed, hopefully it won't really take this long.

I originally ordered the 1.83 GHz standard configuration on January 11 at 9:39 AM.

:(

Does it show that on the online order status? My online order status still shows the 15th. I wonder if they are actually going to ship some then....Only time will tell.

Good Luck, I hope it doesn't push your ship date back further. So no more "It's illegal in this country!" :p

If you read my posts, it wasn't about the Illegal bit (i did add AFAIK to that) but that available balance has always been a perfect barometer up until now. And now, with the config change, I'm actually not surprised that they did a refund.

However, I guess that I won't trust the balance barometer any more.

I find that very interesting. I might just seeing nothing out of nowhere, but when I ordered my iMac last week, the order screen said shipping in 5-7 days, but in fact gave me a shipping date 10 business days down the line, with shipping feb. 23rd and delivery on march 2nd. I wonder if we are gonna see an iMac bump when they ship.

Well, I just edited my post stating that the SKUs have changed for the two models, and that the estimates /might/ be off because of the SKU change. Some of the original 1.8s might be 'flagging' as the new 1.8s and getting estimates adjusted accordingly.

I saw this on the Apple discussion forums, it purports to be the email from Apple telling us about the change:

To Our Valued Apple Customer:

Today we announced that this week Apple will begin shipping the new 15.4-inch MacBook Pro featuring the Intel Core Duo processor, a built-in iSight, Front Row with Apple Remote and more. The reception of the MacBook Pro has been tremendous and we are working hard to ship as many units as fast as possible.

Better still, prior to shipment we've improved the entire MacBook Pro family
with configurations starting at 1.83Ghz up to 2.16GHz. We have upgraded your MacBook Pro from a 1.83GHz processor to a 2.0GHz processor at no additional cost! We anticipate shipping your upgraded order by February 23, 2006.

To learn more about the most recent upgrades to the MacBook Pro family, please visit http://www.apple.com/macbookpro. You might be interested to know that Apple is offering an even faster processor - the 2.16GHz. This is a custom configured option and is available for an additional charge.

If you decide you'd like to make a change to your upgraded MacBook Pro order, we're happy to help. You may reach us at at 1-800-676-2775, Mon-Fri 7 am-10 pm and 9 am-6 pm Sat-Sun (Central). Some change requests may extend your shipment date slightly. If we do not hear from you by February 18th, we will ship the MacBook Pro 2.0Ghz Intel Core Duo.

Our systems will reflect the change to your order by February 15. Please visit
http://www.apple.com/orderstatus <http://www.apple.com/orderstatus> for the most up-to-date information on your upgraded order. A shipment notification, with tracking information, will be emailed to you as soon as your order is shipped.

Thank you very much for shopping at the Apple Store!

Sincerely,
The Apple Store Team

Obviously, the dates and system configurations will vary. Since they're giving until the 18th to make changes, I don't see any going out tomorrow.

A neat theory. So as the old SKUs are deleted the new ones shuttle up the list and everyone ends up back where they were. Makes sense but we'll have to wait and see.

Oh, I just got bumped to 28th/10th as well.

Perhaps it would be easier just to sleep through the next couple of days! :p

just got in from uni a few hours ago, started reading this thread - OMG a free upgrade to 1.83 - very cool.:) :)

my estimated shipping date moved back 28th Feb - ****.

o well, a free upgrade is something - maybe if they arn't able to ship our books by the 28th they'll ship it by the 10th March with another free upgrade!

it works out pretty well cause I won't be here next week to receive my baby.

FYI: ordered 15th Jan, have always had 15th Feb Estimated shiping date, and ordered 1.67 with 1x1GB.

I just got that same email but it says they estimate shipping it by the 28th.... I ordered at 11:05 on the day of the keynote...hmm... I'm tempted to call

mine just got bumped to 2/28 and march 3 delivery

this sucks

i just wanted my 1.83 this week.

why even post an estimated date?

I just got the email as well, so I can verify that the one I posted is legitimate. My shipment date in the email is "by February 28, 2006" instead of February 23, but the rest is the same -- including the deadline of February 18 to make changes. That gives me hope that it may ship sooner than the 28th, but at least we're closing in on it and we have some official word from Apple.

Oh well, I'll be out of town starting tomorrow for a few days and I'll only have a week or so to wait when I get back. I wasn't quite expecting to wait 7.5 weeks when I placed my order, but in all fairness Apple did say "February" when I placed the order. I knew what I was getting into.

In any case, upgrading the orders to the higher speed processors was the stand up thing for them to do.

Help...

My order status was updated as well, but only the shipping date, it says Feb 28th now. But it still only says 1,83 Ghz although I orderer the 1,83Ghz. So it should be a 2 Ghz by now right?? Should I call apple ??

Im not sure how you guys are looking at this, but IMO, its not really a free upgrade at all. Sure, we are getting faster processors in our macbooks, but the entire line has shifted upwards, its not like we are getting something for nothing; since you'd still be paying the same price anyway. The lower end ones are still the lower end ones. I mean, dont get me wrong, I dont mind at all that my macbook is going to be faster. I just hope it ships soon.

(I hope that made at least a little bit of sense ;D)

Just changed my sig, but I still don't officially have an order placed, (ordering through work, so will get a little later but our central buyers will place orders anyway).

Nice that we have a speed bump, but it worries me that one press release states this week and next week, another post on the official boards states 23rd. Either way, I was half-expecting it to e towards the end of Feb when Apple first announced it and said they would be shipping this month. They never said when in the month and those orders placed merely estimated shipping dates. I for one still think it will be closer to early to mid-March at the earliest for myself, (with the extra delays we often get going through a store rather than online).

For Apple to announce speed bumps, we must be close to shipping anyway. Why else would they do it? They are hardly going to say "here's some faster processors" and then tell us we have to wait another 2-3 weeks before they will be ready. If that was the case, they would have been more likely to hold off until just before and say "we're bumping the speeds to 2.0 and 2.16GHz, oh and they're shipping today". A lot of people would be annoyed beforehand and might have even cancelled orders, but it would have made a bit more sense, marketing-wise. They may have announced this bump to try and stop people cancelling orders, but since I don't think they will struggle to sell these, I see this as less likely.

Just ordered. Standard '1.67GHz' on the UK Store - hoping to recieve confirmation that it will be upgraded to 1.8GHz soon!

3-4 weeks shipping. So, that is the end of March. Argh! Fingers crossed for a sonner delivery :). Where can I sign up for the 'I'm waiting for a MacBook Pro club' :D

Just got my order confirmation. It has 'jumped' to 1.83Ghz! Yay!

EDIT: Golly! A whole month of waiting. I know what you guys are now feeling!

Data point as of 3pm EST:

Ordered the 1.83 with an upgrade to the 7200rpm drive on Jan 12, 2006 at 07:08 AM PST.

My order and order status have not yet changed. Still shows a 1.8ghz with an estimated shipping date of the 15th.

No, outside the US is taking a bit of time to update. We will all get our "free upgrade", no matter what is being said. I doubt Apple even have any 1.67GHz models to ship, so can't even do it by mistake.

Just called them....

They said that the delay is because of the "free upgrade"....hum...

They also said that although they can not garantee the shipment date specified in the email this is probably going to be the actual shipment date (Feb/18) (or even before....).....

WELL....I'm taking some sleeping pills so I can sleep through the weekend...good night!

I'm in the US and my online status still says Feb 15 with the 1.83ghz config.... it should now be 2.0ghz. The email I got said my online status should be updated by tomorrow, so I'm assuming that's the case for everyone.

Data point 3:27pm

Just got the email. Bumped to 2ghz, mow expected to ship before Feb 28th.
