maverick808,

Do you think that since the 1.83`s were already built as the higher end
models that they would already be prepared to ship? Makes sense.

Also do you think that Canadian orders would ship before or after
the U.K and U.S orders.

I am wondering if mine will ship to the U.S first from China and then
sent to Canada after that or would it come right from China.

Yes I'm pretty sure that a lot of 1.83s must have been built which is why they have earlier ship dates.

I would think the Canada ship dates would be more or less the same as the USA since I think Apple is sending the shipments or doing the updates based on continent. I see that the USA and Australia stores have the 2.16 upgrade available on their sites but that nowhere in Europe has.

That would make sense if there were no difference between the 2 machines. But that is not the case. The lower spec machines have 128Mb VRAM as opposed to 256Mb on the higher spec and smaller harddrives.

Ooops, well spotted.

Thanks Maverick,

Thats sounds pretty bang on. Even if they were to ship faster with
purchasing of a 2.16 , I really don’t see it being worth the price.
Basically you would be paying lots of $$cash$$ for shipping an extra day or
so and from what I beieve we wouldn’t even notice as a difference
compared to what a 2.0 Ghz. sytem would show (benchmarks).

Robbieduncan, I definitely see your point which makes sense. But I wonder
if the 1.67 Ghz to always really supposed to be 1.83 Ghz? How is it
possible to just switch out of the blue and still ship the same month?
That would be some extreme overtime!!!! I think it was there plan to
begin with. The reason the come up with the sudden update is because
people were getting too impatient to wait so they wouln’t cancel.

I personally think that the 1.67 Ghz. was always meant to be put into
the iBooks. This is a new milestone so to put the same processor speed
as the powerbooks in the new MacBooks would be a little
disappointing ; in which a lot of people were. Yes the 1.67 Mgz. chips
always existed but I never think they intended for it to go inside a
Macbook.

Just my 2 cents though.

I believe ibooks won't have core duo processors, but single CPU ones ("core solo"?)

I ordered a stock 1.67(now 1.83ghz), model on January 10th. From what I've seen it seems as though persons ordering the base model, in it's stock configuration have the Feb. 23 ship date. Any Bto's have a ship date of Feb. 28 at the earliest. The system is automated, so I think that this is just Apple erring on the side of caution with regards to BTO machines.

Irregardless, judging from the follow-up email stating we all have to the 18th to call in and/or upgrade, no shipments are probably going out before then. I'm expecting a shipped date of this saturday for some of us, which would put Apple within their timeline of shipping "this week".

When exactly is the MacBook Pro shipping?

I've got both models ordered, the 1.83 Stock (previously 1.67 Ghz) and 2.0 Ghz BTO. They are both estimated at February 28 (Originally Feb 15). So, in my impression the estimated ship date is not determined by whether it is a base model or BTO. [Note: I also ordered them separately, 11 days apart; both from the Apple Online Education Store.]

Very true, I forgot about that. From what I’ve heard too I think they coming with single processors. So what are they going to do with all the 1.67 chips
dual chips? They will have to use them for something if they do exist. That would be a huge waste of money! I think they’re up to something!

toneloco2881, I think your right. But those who ordered on or close after the
keynote are still going to ticked off because theirs will end up coming the same or around the same time as those who ordered the stock configuration. I had a feeling that would happen to be honest with you, which is why I will
wait a couple of months and then make my upgrades when things get back to normal. I was told (never really know the truth) that my stock model
(now 1.83) would be shipped on the 28th of Feb. and I asked if BTO
systems would slow down the shipping process and he did say it was more
than possible; but again who really knows??? Reason I asked for as specific
details as possible is because I need it by March 3 cause I’m leaving for
school. I think apple did this 2.16 processor thing because it will take a lot
of tension off such large demand; especially if it means it could take longer
to receive. A lot of people just want to have the best of the best so they
will hold off just to say they have the best system out there. If orders get
cancelled, then faster we get ours.

I don't think you are allowed to order two Laptops within one year from EDU Store... I hope you are not cheating Apple. Because, I don't want apple to take away the EDU store because of abuse.

What exactly is BTO?

Anyway, i ordered my macbook pro jan 18th. I got pushed back to Feb 28, originally feb 15. I have a feeling either the chips always clocked at the "new" speeds and this was a marketing ploy, or because they are behind on orders so bad and can't meet demand that they automatically gave the upgrades just so people couldn't complain as much. hard to tell. all this waiting is killing me! its been over a month! looks like it'll be another month before I see it... :(

New on Appleinsider:
MacBook Pro

Also in his note released Wednesday, Wu said that his proprietary checks with industry and channel sources indicate that Intel's microprocessor yields have improved, enabling Apple to ship more high-end Core Duo systems.

"In addition, our checks indicate that MacBook Pros are in stock at key distributors and many Apple stores while others are en route to fulfill pre-orders," Wu wrote. "We continue to believe that Apple's fundamentals remain sound and arguably among the strongest in technology, but negative investor sentiment and its weak technicals may indicate further share price downside."

Absent of technicals, for longer term fundamental investors, Wu says he would take advantage of the pull-back to build and/or add to Apple positions.

RAWR!!!! Why is my date pushed to teh 28th! i friggen ordered 1 minute after the stores were back up on the 10th!

For those who ordered later, and originally received a shipping date of Feb. 28th, it looks like ours have been pushed back to March 8th. Kinda bummed about the extra week, but its not the end of the world.

I agree...

What is that all about. So the stores have them in Stock now and anyone can buy them. And we who ordered immediately after the keynote have to wait a few more weeks?

Edit : Ok so I calmed down a bit. This can actually not be true. Even if Apple started shipping them Yesterday, there is no way that a lot of stores already have them in stock. I wonder what stores Mr. Wu talked to??

Weird. Now my order has been updated, but the ship date is still 2/15

MBPRO 15/2.0 CTO
Estimated ship: Feb 15, 2006
Estimated delivery: Feb 23, 2006

Re: Noelister's comment

Right. This is true for individuals (i.e. personal use), but as an educational institution our school can purchase whatever equipment we have need of.

I really do not think this is exactly the case it may be a side affect but I think the pressure that Dell and Sony were putting on by offering the higher end chips was a large factor in this upgrade. It really helped them pull ahead in the cost of hardware.

AJBMatrix, are the Dell’s and Sony’s both shipping around the same time?
I haven’t read too much on either, but are they planning developing a chip
to compete with the 2.16Mhz? If Apple do miss there ship date again I
wonder how that will affect their sales? People who don’t know a lot about
computers (definitely not saying that I am a professional) would be the ones
to worry about because normally they have been told by a third party on
what to expect from a Mac compared to PC’s. The die hards are likely to
wait cause they know the quality of what Mac puts out.
I think Apple have to be smart at this point, and definitely meet their
deadlines here because some will become totally turned off; especially
those who are new to Mac’s. If two competitive products come out at
the same time and one keeps pushing back their shipping date;mostly
the average will get fed up and stick to what their used to.

Me personally, I am going to wait it out regardless what happens. This is
my first Mac but from those whom I’ve spoke with I will not be sorry!:D

Can’t wait.

Yep. Dell, Acer, Toshiba, Sony, and maybe more by now all have the Core Duo. Some are calling it the Centrino Dual Core. Some are also offering the Core Solo. They are also all shipping around the same date. If I remember correctly the first Dells are going to ship on the 21st if there are no more delays. They were originally supposed to ship end of Jan. But they got pushed back to the 21st of this month. I am not sure when the first Sony, Acer, and Toshibas are going to ship. But they probably will be coming within the next few weeks as well. Do not worry I shopped around. I checked out the prices before the chip upgrade and if you were a student you saved about 50 to 200 dollars from the other makers and sometimes more depending on how you wanted to do the specs. And as I always say, do not forget the anti-virus :D . But after the processor upgrade it is going to be a lot more. Probably around 200 to 450 difference in price now. Apple is the best deal out there considering what you are getting. They do not have some of the lower end models like the others have but they do have really nice upgraded models.

Absolutely Thanks for the info. I have always looked highly upon your feedback. Very Knowledgeable. Thank a bunch.
By looking at your order on your sig, As SJ quoted “Its gonna be a screamer”!!! Look forward reading your replies.
