I upgraded last spring from a 10.5 2017 iPP to the 11 inch 2018 256GB wifi only IPP. MicroCenter had an in-store sale for $535 (open-box....pristine condition). Best deal I ever got on an iPad. I prefer the smaller size in the iPad’s, so unless the 2021 11 inch model gets the mini led display...and at this point that doesn’t look promising....I’m going to stick with my 2018 for another year. Combined with the magic keyboard....it’s been a fantastic iPad. I can easily live with it another year...at least!

I always thought the 12.9 was just too big. I’m not able to go into the store right now but I’ve held them before. I always stuck with the 9.7-11” models because the 12.9 seemed too big and unwieldy. Weight was never a concern because I’m almost always wresting my iPad on something but it’s more ‘how far away do I need to hold it from my face in order to see the whole thing’.

The older 12.9 model was around letter-size legal pad. The current 12.9 is slightly smaller. In meetings, the 12.9 looks just right amongst all the print outs while smaller models looks tiny.

In bed, I find 9.7-11 so much easier to manage and much, much less painful when dropped on one’s nose.

I appreciate it but I chuckled at the nose bit haha. Mostly I rest my iPad on the side of my other pillow and lay on my side. Perks of having a queen sized bed for one!

Haha

I will definitely be getting the 11". Just can't seem to decide if cellular is the way to go. The last time I had a cellular iPad was about 6 years ago? I feel like now I can get wifi pretty much everywhere I go and if not, I can tether to my phone. Then again, it might be a nice thing to have...

Yup... they added 100 bucks to the 12.9 inch model. I knew that would happen... but definitely purchasing the cellular model.

Alright here's what sold me.

1) The FaceTime Camera
2) The full M1 with the 8 core GPU (I was thinking the A14X would be the 7-core)

The display is nice but not needed. The camera alone is worth the increase. Also up to 2TB of storage?! Daaaaamn.

Pretty excited about a few things:

Center State - Seems great to run Zoom/WebEx calls with
Up to 16GB of RAM - nice
Screen on the big boy - nice
5G - nice
M1 Chip - Nice
Improved thunderbolt support and external support - likely to be updated in the future

Seems like a perfect (though probably unnecessary) upgrade to the 2018 iPad Pro. I will buy. Thing seems like it would be future proofed for at least five years

Ugh....I don't know! Tough decision!

I have an 11" Air, which replaced my 2018 Pro that I accidentally smashed over Christmas. I love the 11" size, but the XDR screen seems really nice! Maybe it's time to give the 12.9 a try? I bring my 11" from room to room around my house, and I am concerned that the 12.9 will be a little less portable for my use case?

That's on the lower capacities. 512GB to 1TB is back to $400 upcharge versus $200. Here's hoping that comes with 16GB RAM.

I was planning on upgrading regardless of the features that were announced for this years iPad. But Apple definitely impressed me with the M1. All this talk about can the iPad replace a laptop… should go away at this point. Now, all we need to wait for is more pro apps from devs.

Man, I’m debating. I speculated here awhile back that they might go with the M1 chip. The 12.9-inch display sounds great and will be hard to resist. I’m wondering about the weight difference, which could be a factor. I doubt cellular holds much appeal for me as I generally have no issues tethered when I can’t find wifi. At least there’s time to think about it before you can even put in an order. I also wonder ab shipping delays with chip shortages, etc.

I am thinking about that 12.9” 1TB M1 iPad Pro with 16GB RAM, take note I had initially said I am keeping my 2020 iPad Pro 11”, as I do prefer 11” but I think I can trade some comfort for the splendor that is XDR.

it does, which is great for us that buy 1TB anyway

Yep. I guess Apple figures 1TB+ buyers are the ones running content creation apps that gobble RAM.

I don't do content creation on the iPad (well, not on desktop either) but the extra RAM is bound to be helpful with multitasking and Safari tabs.
