What’s up caseoholics?! I haven’t been here in a while.

Quick update. I fell out of love with my Sheath for the Apple leather. Then I lost the Sheath! Ugh! Now I’m in the Apple silicone. That leather is too slippery and I feel the need to be careful with it. The silicone is great for grip but so sticky in the pockets. It won’t last long. Not sure where to go at this point. I truly do live a hard life. Lol

I wish Apple made a fabric case like the pixel line. That would be perfect.

Edit: forgot the loopy. I still use that from time to time but I’m meh on it.

Looks very interesting. Bottom is covered too.

When you receive it, please be sure to post pics and what you think. :)

In terms of looks, at least from the back, it looks similar to the Nomad Rugged or RhinoShield SolidSuit leather. When you get it, can you please let us know how the buttons feel?
i finally got the case just now and first impression is thick lol.yeah its otterbox symmetry thick.the case i believe is two piece design real leather back sides the sides is tpu and very grippy, the bottom is covered the buttons are a little hard to press but i believe it will get better overtime.it has enough lip in the front for screen protection.this is very protective case indeed.i think it kinda look like the nomad case.i only recommend it for those who really needs protection but wants leather case.

Great review! Might be a little too thick for me. That does look protective. You think the buttons will loosen up?

I have 2 Sheath cases, Modified & NIB. I love the smallness of the Sheath Modified but, it's just too slippery especially when laying it on the arm of a chair or car seat or slipping out of my shirt/pants pocket. I've been rocking the Miracase Silicone and will probably stay with it until the next iPhone is released. Love that it doesn't have the missing lip on the bottom.

I don't mind the little extra effort of In & Out of pocket stickiness, it's better than it slipping out of pocket with loose-fitting slacks when sitting down or reclining in yer favorite chair or office chair!!

See I love the open cutout at the bottom for swiping. I agree my phone has slipped out of dress pants a time or two.

I understand the purpose of the cutout...It doesn't interfere with my swiping.

I like that it just looks aesthetically better with a lip all the way around + gives added grip when face down! This is just my opinion which I know is not that popular!

I think on this forum that your opinion is the popular one. At least it used to be. :)

I'm looking for a clear case just like Apples for the XR just for my XS Max. I have a cheap clear case right now which I love except it doesn't have a cutout on the bottom which makes swiping feel very unnatural compared to Apples leather cases. Also the bottom is very loose and therefore moves around and starts to scratch the metal frame.
Any recommendations for a simple clear case with cutout?

Here are pictures of the Vaja Grip with my other snap on cases (Pitaka MagCase and Burkley Snap-on). Because of all of the openings, I had a hard time getting them to stay stacked, so I apologize if the comparison isn't exact. I also posted pictures comparing the leather of the Vaja with the leather of the Burkley.

Not directly for you..but since you mentioned Mirascase..

For any interested in the Miracase, in the past few days, the price for most colors dropped down to $12.99 on Amazon. I picked up a black one for my XR since some mentioned the red Miracase doesn't exactly match the red XR.

I was using my imitation Apple silicone and switched to my other cases for the past 2 weeks cause of the increased difficulty in getting the phone in and out of pockets. But I missed the feel of the silicone so I finally switched back. I happened to check Amazon and saw the price drop for the Miracase Silicone and thought..why not, especially since its even cheaper now then the past few weeks and I want full lip protection around the case. Its out for delivery so I can't wait to go home to use it. :D

They have a fabric case for the Max on ebay (like 4 or 5 color options), includes the apple logo, case is designed exactly like the silicone case (bottom open) and was like $7. looks like the link i used to purchase it is no longer active... here's another. https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-iPhone...ee2481052:m:maIVbI5oq9ChQS4XXgE5cgA:rk:7:pf:0

Thanks. I’ve seen a few around. Haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

does anyone have a clear case that won't discolor? i got this right before thanksgiving:
https://silksmartish.com/products/s...dist-case-clear-slim-protective-nonslip-cover

but it already yellowed, and absorbed some blue from my jeans. i reached out to the company and they replaced it with one of their non-clear cases (the kung fu grip - wirecutter's pic for best case). which is fine, but i wanted a clear case for my XS.

got the same clear style for my wife's Xr, but since it's often in a purse and not pocket, it still looks news.

I have the Humixx Clear case since early October 2018 and so fare no discolouration and I always have the phone in my jeans pocket. It's the german Amazon link but you can probaby get it anywhere else.

Just got home a few minutes ago and took a few pictures of the Miracase Liquid Silicone case for my red XR.

It’s pretty much a standard silicone case that has full lip protection. The lips feels taller than my Caudabe Sheath, Loopy Max and my fake Apple silicone. It’s about as tall as my Ringke Fusion. The buttons are responsive and the case feels sturdy. The bottom of the case is a bit more flimsy..kinda seems like there’s no plastic case underneath.

But so far it’s what I expect and I like it.

I used to use Vaja cases back in the PDA days...maybe even for my Treo. As I recall, I really liked them quite a bit and they were well made. If I were looking for a leather case again, I'd definitely give them a try (but I'm more interested in something slim that will accommodate an iRing as well as wireless charging so not currently on my radar.)

Agreed! :D

Edit: Just realized we joined the same month back in 2008...must've been for the 3G.

Time flies...I just with they had some sort of B&M distribution, so I can fondle them in person before buying. :D

At one point in time, Vaja was purchased by Case-Mate. Does anybody know if they still own the brand?

Forgot about that. IIRC, Case-Mate was actually the U.S. importer, before buying the brand.

I'm going to compare the Vaja to the other leather cases I have:
- I think the Apple leather is softer and more plush.
- The leather on the Nomad Rugged Case and Totallee Leather Case has more grip. I think the leather on these two cases felt like rubber, but some people prefer that type of leather better. Personally, I prefer the leather on the Apple and Vaja. The Burkley has the worst grip.
- I think the leather on the Nomad Rugged Case smells better (by a large margin), followed by the Totallee Leather Case. I can't smell the leather on the Vaja, Apple, or Burkley.
- The Vaja case feels better than the Burkley.
- I have the blue Vaja grip, so mine doesn't have this issue, but I noticed on some of the other colors, the logo of the Vaja is cut out of the metal plate in the back, so I can see dust getting stuck in there.
- The Vaja case has the best presentation. It comes in a leather pouch, which I heard is the leftover leather from the case. The Burkley has the second best presentation as it comes in a suede envelope pouch.
- I can see the leather on the Apple, Nomad, and Totallee having a "better" patina. There are wrinkles and creases in the leather of these cases from removing the case. The Burkley is really solid and smooth, and I don't see it bending at all.
- I prefer the look of the Vaja over all of the other cases. The Apple is my second in terms of looks just because of the Apple logo and color (I have the forest green). The Nomad is nice, but it makes the phone wider and taller. The buttons have no feedback (it feels like using the Apple leather cases that came out for the 6/6s/6 Plus/6s Plus) and the speaker cutouts are symmetrical. I have no confidence in the Totallee's drop protection. The case is so thin that it makes finding the buttons, which are exposed, are to find since they're flush with the case. The Burkley is my least favorite.
- I think I like the Vaja because I kind of feel like I have "baller status."

I'll upload pictures later today comparing the Vaja with the other snap on cases I have for size comparison.

I agree, NewsRadio was a great show. I even liked the fifth season with Jon Lovitz.

The way you describe Vaja's leather leads me to suspect it's like the Issentiel case I have for my iPad. No real smell, nor buttery soft, but tanned to be durable, which it has been given how long I've owned it (and been quite please by it).

Apple's leather cases are a good option, with more "real" leather qualities (which leads to the patina some dislike), but I wish they had full coverage like the iP5 cases did.

I briefly had a Nomad Rugged in my possession from BB's clearance sale (returned since it was the older X version), but given normal prices, I'd rather have Apple's case. Not as protective, but better made and with the same leather-ish qualities.

The Vaja sounds like a good compromise between feel and durability, so I'll keep it on the burner. (BTW, "LOVE2019" will knock 20% off through the end of the month, as they're having yet another sale.)

I like the contrast between modern and natural materials, so almost all of my cases have tended to have wood or leather.

I'd like to see someone attempt a shell cordovan case, but I suspect the cost would limit its appeal.

Thanks for the pix.

For minimal cases, I love the precise fit and superior customer service of the Totallee case company. I especially like the soft clear case. I understand that being polypropylene, it will likely yellow but am confident I can get a replacement under their 2 year warranty.

Additionally, I have a brand new Totallee black case for the XS Max for free. I didn’t end up keeping the Max. If anyone in the US wants it, PM me and I’ll send it to you.

Totallee soft clear doesn’t have the bottom cutout but it’s an excellent minimal case that doesn’t interfere with swiping. Note - the edges do not come up above a screen protector. The speaker hole cutouts are precise and the buttons are super clicky. It’s my favorite for looking like a naked phone from a distance while still having some protection. Love this soft clear Totallee!
