I'm not a fan of big, bulky cases, plus I've been lucky in that I think I've a dropped a phone, maybe on average once or twice a year...Been using the Sheath since I had an iPhone 7 Plus...Fast forward to today, and I have the Sheath for my iPhone XS Max and it took a fall yesterday...Was on the phone, talking to my dad and got up to get something...putting the phone on my kitchen counter...Once I put the phone down, I turned to get something out of the fridge, and my hand brushed the phone, and knocked it off the counter...It took about a four and a half foot fall, on to a tile floor. Hit just on a corner, and then full face down...That corner of the case had a scuff mark...easily wiped off...and thankfully, all is good. No damage at all...so the Sheath did it's job...

Nice. Thanks for sharing.

I don’t think any case will 100% protect against drops. That even includes bulkier cases.

The Totallee or the Sheath or both?
Totallee.

Yeah the Sheath definitely feels like it would survive a fall better than the case I’ve been using but it also has more oomph to it. If I can get a good quality Sheath replacement, I’ll probably keep it and use it in my rotation.

Totallee.
This case just feels good in hand for me. It doesn’t have lay down screen protection and due to the thinness of case and the rise of the camera bump, it will rock on a flat surface.

Yeah, I have a friend who works in construction, and he goes with the bigger, bulkier cases...working on ladders and roofs, I get it. But he even managed to crack the glass on the back of his XS...from a drop around six feet...in case a that was rated for ten foot drops...As they say, glass is glass, and glass can crack no matter what...

I think what helped me get over my case addiction was watching this video when I got my XS Max. Basically, a drop test with a naked XS along with an XS in a cheap $5 case...This one is more realistic of day to day drops, rather than dropping phones from building roofs or out of planes...lol

Very nice! I don’t know if I could go that thin, but I can see why you really like that case. You can enjoy the look of the phone, adding very little bulk. Thanks for the pics.

I saw that video. It was great. It proves that a $5 case can protect your phone as well.

Is that the Totalee clear case? Looks nice.

Yep, the Totallee. I totally (no pun intended) love a super thin but clear case. This one doesn’t give much protection but I like that it has precise speaker holes, super tactile buttons and feels really good in hand. I wish Totallee had the same clear case for the iPad but they don’t.

After having been a fan of the Sheath for a couple iterations, I took a chance on the new, slimmer Otterbox Symmetry. I keep going back to it. Feels really good in my hand.

Wish they offer more, less-flashy colors.

Also tried the Otterbox Vue; similar, if not exact size of slim Symmetry, but IMO much slicker.

What do you mean "new slimmer"?

Otterbox began selling a thinner version of the Symmetry some time ago. It is noticeably thinner than previous versions. I believe they removed the rubber/foam padding on the inside-back of the case.

My new XS Max is on the way, and I’m on the hunt for a case. I’ve read the last 35 pages of this monster thread and my eyes are starting to bleed, so I’m hoping some of the case experts here can point me in the right direction.

Here are the factors I’m considering:

1) As slim as reasonably possible
2) Lip on the front, so I can place the phone face down without worrying about scratching
3) Cutout on the bottom (front) to assist with gestures
4) Some degree of impact protection would be nice, but not a necessity (I do realize a slim case won’t provide a ton of protection)
4) Flexible on color...I’m thinking clear/transparent but I’d certainly consider colored cases if I can hit all of the other items on my list

Before I pulled the trigger on the Max, I spent some time trying to decide if it was too damn big. To that end, I picked up a cheap ($4) case - this one: https://www.amazon.com/VRS-Protecti...1546970931&sr=8-1&keywords=iphone xs max case. Walked around with it in my pocket just to get a feel for the size. This case is fine...I’m not a huge fan of the ridges on the back or the red label, but it does satisfy the first two items on my list above (slimness, front lip). So I’m just trying to figure out if there’s something better suited to my needs. TIA for any advice!

I’m a fan of the Caudabe Sheath. It meets just about all your requirements, but the lip isn’t huge. There is lip, but if you’re going to use a glass protector you’ll be fine laying it face down. No issues with gestures. If you want more lip and a cutout on the bottom front, the Apple leather is a good choice as well. Just a couple to consider.

Thanks. I've seen dozens of posts in this thread re: the Sheath, so I'm definitely looking at that one. Oddly the official Apple case didn't make my list...I guess I assumed 3rd party options would eclipse it in price/performance ratio? But, clearly that was an oversight. I'll look into it now.

I did buy a few more cheap cases on Amazon today, so at least I'll have some temporary options while I work on a more long-term solution.

I want wireless charging to work so loopy is out.

Does anyone know for sure whether or not wireless charging will work with the Loopy? Specifically, with the Max? I'm guessing no, but it seems like there's a (small) chance. Some of the phone's body (top half) could still sit on a charging pad. Though I guess it comes down to where the wireless coil sits inside the phone...if that area is right under the loop, then it probably won't work.

I found this statement on Loopy's site: https://www.loopycases.com/blogs/loopy-blog/wireless-charging-official-statement. Sounds like it's tricky but possible. However, given that this statement comes from the manufacturer, I figured I should pose the question here (for some unbiased opinions).

I currently have a Black, Blue and Red Apple Leather case for my XS Max.
Just ordered a Silicone Case - Mellow Yellow, to match the official Apple Mellow Yellow watch band I have ;)

Received my Sheath today. :) :(

Super happy with the style, fit and grip.

Not as thrilled that the side buttons are very stiff and not tactile at all.

Really unhappy that the case they sent me is defective. The bottom part by the lightning port is a matte finish. My case has one spot that is shiny and has flow lines in the rubber (used to work at a rubber manufacturing plant). Looks like they tried to buff out the defect but instead it stands out like a sore thumb. While it’s only a cosmetic defect, I expect a good quality case as I paid full price. I sent them an email - we’ll see how good their customer service is.

Wow. Sorry to hear you received a defective case. :( The stiff buttons surprise me. Buttons here are very responsive. I’m sure they’ll take care of you, Let us know how it goes.

I have the same problems with Sheath's buttons (classic black), they are too hard to press, so I wrote them and they sent me another one but not the classic black, the other model, because they told me that they are in different material. Now I'm waiting to receive this one.

They are sending me another replacement but classic black. Let me know if the buttons work better in the other version.

Sorry to hear that. Glad they’re sending you another. I have the classic black and carbon. The buttons work fine on both, but I have an XS Max. Do you have an X like @Nhwhazup?
