I just received the Caudabe black sheath. I like it a lot. It fits very well and the cut outs are spot on. I switched to it from the speck grip case. I like Speck a lot as well but makes the phone bigger and a tad heavier. However with the sheath does it get more grippy by chance over time?

I haven’t noticed more grip, but I found it nice and grippy. I did switch from it though and am back to my pitaka Mag Pro.

Good to know. Not sure I will stick with it. May end up back with the Speck. Like having the grip on the sides. Upon reading all the reviews on the sheath many were/are pleased with the grip so I wanted to git it a try. Thanks for replying.

I received my replacement Sheath today and the quality is better but there is a tiny dent on the top edge. And the buttons are still harder to push than I would like. I’m back to my Apple leather case. For me, it feels better in hand and also feels lighter than the Sheath.

I think I’m sticking with my Sheath carbon. I have another Sheath in black, an Apple leather and the Supcase UB. If I get bored, I can switch up. I just like everything about the Sheath. I’m considering the Speck Grip, but really don’t want to add more bulk. I have the UB for a slightly larger and more rugged case.

I received my replacement Sheath a few days ago. I find the buttons very easy to press, I am surprised many are having issues. I have always been an Apple leather case kind of guy every year for the past 5 years but find this case a pleasant change from my normal go to. Its thin, the texture adds the perfect amount of grip and also enjoy having the bottom of the phone covered. All in all, I am really enjoying the case thus far. Definitely recommended to those who haven't give it a try.

One tip for any new case...Put it on, and leave it on for a few days, or up to a week. I mean, if you totally hate it, then take it off, but if it's border line...Put it on, and leave it on for a few days.

As my friend brought up, your brain and hands retain muscle memory over time. Just like with a case, it takes some time for you to adjust...How hard you need to grip it? What's the best way to pick it up...from the bottom, middle or top? How do I hold it, so it won't fall out of my hand? If you have used a case for awhile, you do all that instinctively...Then you throw a new case on and OMG! It's slippery! It has to much grip and sticks to everything! The buttons are weak, the buttons feel like they might fall off! The point is, give it some time...

As an example, I've been a Sheath user for a long time. I've tried a few, clear cases...Who doesn't want to see your phone? But they felt like cheap plastic, they looked like clear plastic wrapped around a phone, and the buttons were stiff and hard to press...That was after about a five minute evaluation...Off it went, Sheath back on....next! I recently went back and put the Ringke Fusion on my Max...out of the two or three clear cases I tried, I did like it the most...This time, I kept it on for a few days...And it's pretty nice! So much so, I went and ordered the Fusion in smoke black...figure that will mitigate the yellowing that happens on all TPU clear cases over time...Have to say, it's a sharp look on the phone! Translucent enough so you can still see the apple logo on the back...but dark enough, that it blends into the phone...And, if you want super clicky buttons, the Fusion rocks!

So now, I have two good cases to swap between...

Kinda hoping Dbrand delays the Grip v2 another month so I can get another Amazon gift card. Pretty soon they’ll be paying me to use the case.

Any thoughts on the Rignke Air case?

I'm using it on iPhone X and i really like it,
the feel the grip.
i thimk that the clear version will become yeloow but i have the smoke version. so it's good

I've had my new Max for a full two days now, and I think I now have a pretty good sense of what I want in a case. I've been swapping between four cheap-ish cases I picked up on Amazon. The rundown on those:

Ranvoo Slim Fit Minimalist case in blue ($13) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GYT5PW1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - I'm a sucker for blue cases, and this one seemed to tick some boxes for me. It's indeed very slim, and the color is nice. But it's slippery as hell.

VRS Design slim clear case ($11) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07G765JH9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - this one is...fine. Material is grippy enough, fit is ok. However, I'm not a huge fan of the ridged pattern on the back, nor of the red VRS insert.

Maxboost LiquidSkin Pro case ($7) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GNTGC85/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - I wanted to like this one. Interior microfiber is nice. I like the feel of the material, but it's a little slippery - even though the description claims "Excellent Grip". They should have described it as "Acceptable Grip". This case has a cutout on the bottom, which was a feature I wanted to try in hopes it would help a bit with gestures. What I've found is that gestures are easy enough to activate with any relatively small-lipped case; no need to cut out the entire area. And leaving the bottom totally open exposes it in a way I'm uncomfortable with.

Maxboost Hyperpro Hybrid Case ($5) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H9HWQ9W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - my phone has spent most of its short life in this case. Even though it was super cheap, it is - far and away - the most secure/confidence-inspiring of the cases I've picked up. I think this is the only one that would allow the phone to survive a decent drop. I like almost everything about this case, except for the size. I suppose security has its cost: it's larger/thicker in every dimension than any of my other choices.

I never expected any of these options to become long-term choices for me. However, in the future, I think I might find myself using the Hyperpro now and then. I'm also toying with attaching a Love Handle (or some kind of loop) to the Ranvoo and using that combo for a while. I do like the look of this case.

So I'm most certainly still on the hunt for the perfect case. I'm toying with the Loopy (although I don't really want to give up wireless charging). Given all the rave reviews in this thread for the Caudabe Sheath, I think I'll pull the trigger and give it a shot. Perhaps the blue one. Does Caudabe ever run sales? Or should I expect to pay retail?

I was all set to order a Sheath...then I made a Target run, and found a bunch of cases on clearance. Among those was the Evutec Northill (this one: https://www.amazon.com/Compatible-Evutec-Shockproof-Protective-Case-Canvas/dp/B07FK8BQ6Z/) for $11.98. I was considering an Aer anyway, so this seemed like a no-brainer. Haven't opened it up yet, but I'll do that tonight.

Anyone know how the Northill compares to the Aer? The store did have the Aer as well ($39), but they were boxed up so I couldn't examine the two cases next to one another. Details/specs are pretty similar; both claim "military-grade drop protection" (no specifics), and both come with the magnetic car mounts. I'm wondering if the sizes are more or less the same, or if there are any significant differentiating features besides look/materials.

Does anyone know for sure whether or not wireless charging will work with the Loopy? Specifically, with the Max? I'm guessing no, but it seems like there's a (small) chance. Some of the phone's body (top half) could still sit on a charging pad. Though I guess it comes down to where the wireless coil sits inside the phone...if that area is right under the loop, then it probably won't work.

I found this statement on Loopy's site: https://www.loopycases.com/blogs/loopy-blog/wireless-charging-official-statement. Sounds like it's tricky but possible. However, given that this statement comes from the manufacturer, I figured I should pose the question here (for some unbiased opinions).

It is tricky to charge on both a vertical and horizontal charger, really tricky. I wouldn’t chance waking up and finding it uncharged. I love the Loop on the Loopy case, but find the case itself slippery unless your finger is through the loop. I ended up returning it and using the extra loop they sent on my Nomad leather. I just drilled 2 holes, inserted loop, and now have my version of a Loopy case. I use it occasionally and it really does help ease the pinky pain you get with most cases. Also consider your car mount and if the loop will be in the way. One car mount worked for me, but another style it would not mount with the Loopy.

Can’t help you with a exact comparison of the Aer except that in the pictures it looks the same but with a fabric backing. I will say the AER is a fantastic case. Thin and with a great grip. The car mount is a nice bonus with the case. I don’t use it all the time, because I have other non magnetic mounts, but If your using another car it’s small compact and easy to bring with you to use. One of my favorite cases.

Thanks, good info.

Re: the Loopy - I'll just assume wireless charging won't work. If I can get it to work, great, but I won't count on it. I'm interested in trying some kind of loop/knob/handle-type solution, but I might try something like a Love Handle before going with the Loopy.

Re: the Evutec - since I posted earlier, I've opened it up and taken a closer look at it. I'm really impressed. The back is a combination of canvas and leather, giving it a look I haven't seen elsewhere. It has ridges along the sides of the case, adding to the grip factor (and I see the Aer has these same ridges). Maybe it isn't the slimmest case in the world, but it's far from bulky - plenty slim enough for me. It has the correct asymmetrical cutouts on the bottom, and overall fit is quite good. Camera is well protected. The magnetic mount seems to hold the phone firmly, but I'll have to actually test it in the car before passing judgment on this feature. The XS Max is a relatively heavy phone, presumably requiring a solid magnetic connection, and I just don't know if the connection is strong enough to withstand a bumpy car ride. I'll find out tomorrow.

Considering the included mount, I think the retail price of $39 is pretty darn reasonable. So overall, this might have been the best $12 I've ever spent on a phone case.

I have the AER and also had a Northhill for a bit but returned it. The northhill is similar but it’s actually thicker than the AER. If you look the AER has a raised area around the camera but the northhill the case is all the same size on the back because it’s the same size as the camera bump on the AER. I preferred the AER but for that clearance price on the northhill I may go pick up another.

Thanks for the pics. Is the back lightly smoked or clear? How’s it with finger prints?

The sides are dark smoked and the back has a hint of darkness to it...not much. Allows the back color of the phone to show through...It does, like any clear type case, pick up fingerprints but they aren't as noticeable, with the smoke effect...and in my case, the black iPhone Max.

if you like the fusion, you will love the nimbus 9 phantom 2, no finger prints or scratches, I have both.

Years on and I'm still a fan of the leather ikonicEdge brand from New Zealand - still pressed to find leather this soft and real . Just received another dark brown one , this time for the XS Max

After a long search for a good case for iPhone XS I finally ended up settling for Apple saddle brown leather case and carbon fibre Yokase

I switch between the two depending on how I feel. Mainly use the Leather one though.

My wife went with a Casetify case and I must admit that too is very nice.

Buttons and cut outs feel great and look great on all of these cases

Please see pics below
