Sorry, I didn't know that "buying for families" program existed, neither that all members of one household have to have an iPhone! 🤨
An entire household having iPhones (or even all Apple) is pretty common though particularly if one values features such as Continuity, iMessage and Find My. There's no program but going all iPhones is a choice much like choosing to buy iOS over Android, or choosing the $699+ 11 over the $999+ 11 Pro (or vice versa).

In any case, I still think the same, if you have 3K for expending in iPhones but not 4k, then you cannot afford expending 3k.
While people may be able to afford to spend $4K on iPhones, why spend an extra $1K much when $3K will do? You can buy 1-3 iPads or Apple Watches with the money saved going the non-Pro iPhone route. Or maybe save the money towards a fancy vacation for when it's safe to travel again.

Apple products are not cheap but if Apple wants to keep a certain level of mass adoption, going $1K minimum on all iPhones is not the way to go about it. That's why Apple releases products such as the 6.1" iPhone XR and 11. I expect their accountants and marketing people have researched and analyzed that the $600-800 price range is where they can get max demand while keeping high profits.

MacRumors forum members are not the norm. Despite these poll results, I expect the 6.1" 12 Max will sell just fine in the mass market. Likely more in terms of units compared to the 6.1" 12 Pro but probably lower in terms of revenue owing to the cheaper price.

You yourself have mentioned not being willing to pay over $900 for a Pro 5.4. Why not? It's just another $100.
Yep, me. I would pay more for the pro 5.4, but not anything over 900 though. I see a lot of people from the forum that think in switching from 11 Pros to the 5.4in, probably they would not mind to also pay more. If the 5.4 is a great success, maybe we see a pro 5.4 in the following years.

I've gottten a few iPhones with top storage so with that and 10-11% sales tax, I've already hit $900+ per iPhone a few times. Based on current rumors though, there's nothing in the Pro models that interest me so between ~$750-850 for the rumored 128GB 5.4" iPhone 12 or ~$1300 for a theoretical 256GB 5.4" iPhone 12 Pro, I'd rather save the $450-550.

I think the 12 pro. Even the XS Max is a little too big, I can’t imagine 6.7”.

You know what, I just remembered the iPhone 12 is rumored to have slimmer bezels. It might take up the same footprint.

It’s going to be 30mm larger diagonally in terms of screen so it will be significantly bigger. The bezels currently are too small to absorb that.

Leaning towards iPhone 12 Pro Max model, I just hope it doesn't get delayed till November.

It’s going to get delayed but regardless I’ll be purchasing the top two iPhone 12s depending on which support what 5g bands! Hopefully future proofing it.

a 30mm increase in screen size would make the screen 7.7 inches so no, it won't be that much bigger than the current 11 pro max.
Not sure why I even wrote that to be honest?

Anyway i’ll gloss over my brain fart and answer properly. Sure the size difference is so small I don’t even know why Apple are bothering. We’ve got people excited for a bigger model and considering it’s around 7mm, it’s hardly worth the print on a page.

Maybe they needed it to be 6.7”, apparently the 5g modems take up a lot of room, guessing that little bit of extra space helps them fit everything into the phone, guess we’ll never know the reason why.

Was hoping for a 7” iPhone this year. 🥺

Ha. 7” but I agree!! Those marvelous 5g modems will be awesome in the Pro Max and hopefully ONE MORE lol as I want the ‘top’ two iPhones!!

Hopefully 5G will just be available in the Pro models this year as I really don’t have a need for it and I’m looking forward to a sensibly priced 12 Max. In my country 5G is a long way off being widely used so I really don’t want to pay for a modem that i’ll likely rarely use.

All the rumors point to all 4 models having 5G, if you can hold off until next year, this looks like the phone you’re after.

Hopefully we get the new Qualcomm x60 modem in the 12s, meant to be more power efficient than the previous model.

I don’t want to wait longer to be honest. I’ve got £1500 set aside for a phone but am happy spending about £800 so looking at the rumours the 6.1” 12 Max will be about that. I’m not bothered if the phone comes with 5G, just don’t want a stupid premium for the privilege of having something which is largely useless right now.

It’s strange, this is the first year where I really am not convinced of what we can expect. The leaks suggested flat sides, all OLED, 5G, 128GB base storage amongst other things but I have a feeling all the exciting bits will end up on the Pro’s. We’ll see soon enough I suppose lol.

Couldn’t agree with you more about 5G, look on the bright side if you end up keeping your phone for the long haul, least you know it’ll be future proofed for when 5G becomes more wide spread.

With you on the leaks, hopefully apple has a few surprises for us, not holding my breath though.

I’m with O2 but realised they are pretty crap for coverage in Wales and a lot of the places I tend to visit. I’m about to swap to EE when I upgrade as Vodafone and them have the best coverage and speeds in Wales. I’ve also realised O2 are no longer interested in competing with other carriers on contract costs, so it’s a no brainier after 10 years with them to move on.

I wouldn’t go with Three as they are quite poor around my neck of the woods. They also once refused me a contract as they said my credit score wasn’t good enough even though it was lol.

Three is terrible in major city centres eg Manchester,London you only get dailup speeds the only reason me staying with three only paying £2.05 "200 minutes unlimited data" sim only and £1.84 8gb unlimited and text.
Love to move to EE but not worth the cost they are charging
The strange thing is three is faster than EE in my area getting well over 60meg and highest 80meg.

Its amazing isn’t it how regional the performance of these carriers is isn’t it? I’ve just stuck with O2 for years but EE are just much cheaper and seem to offer more data. My wife tried to get them to match a contract recently with EE and they just admitted they couldn’t do it. Mental really. I’ll also check out Vodafone once the iPhone 12 is out to see the best deal.

Three used to use O2’s network, is that still the case do you know? If so I can see why the speeds could be slow.

I’m also an O2 user but their handset deals are awful, my other half is on Vodafone and has had some amazing offers from them and the reception/speed is just as good as I get from O2 here.
Her deals are so good I got my Air 3 using one of her offers as nobody else was anywhere near close. £30 a month, no upfront and 24gb data, whereas the best elsewhere was 2gb and £50 upfront for £30 a month on three!

I admit that I return to this post from time to time to review the results, as they are really interesting, more important the results of the non pro 6.1.. It seems that it will be the worst selling iPhone ever!

I've never understood this "expensive low cost" line on Apple products... If you can afford to buy a 750 dollar phone you would probably afford expending 150 more. This is clearly visible on this poll, as having the same form factor people prefer the Pro one. If you can afford 750 but not 900, then there is something wrong...

Bear in mind, there is a huge segment that need a large display but don't necessarily need the added camera, pro-motion, etc. It's perfect for kids to game on, and the older generation with failing eyesight.

Do you realise that a lot of people don’t want to spend £1K+ on a phone? Why do you think the vast majority of iPhone users aren’t buying the Pro devices? You might not understand the need for mid tier devices but I will say I and many others don’t understand the need for Pro iPhones either.

Don’t forget we used to pay £600-£900 for iPhones up until 2017 and they were considered premium. This new elitist structure may work across the market but the truth remains that the mid tier devices are popular for what they offer and the price they are available at. Sure I could afford to spend £150-500 more on an iPhone but I’d rather not thanks and as long as there are options, I will always buy the iPhone I feel offers the best experience at a sensible price point. If Apple were to only offer Pro devices then I would probably buy an older model and continue doing so.

Also it’s great for business types and people in general who want all the important features but without the obscene price tag. It will be a popular company phone I would imagine too due to its lower cost.

5G rollouts may happen quicker than you expect. I know here, where there isn’t a massive 5G map, the main provider says they’re now planning to cover over 80% of the country by mid 2021, so for many here, a 5G iPhone 12 will be a decent investment.

I normally upgrade every year, but this year for the 1st time I purchased Apple care + with my iPhone 11 Pro Max, so want to get my money’s worth with that. Once that has expired in 2021 I will then upgrade.

If all the members who purchase a 12, could refrain from posting too many pics that would be great.....
