The 5.4 Hong Kong version will not have physical dual sim too?
I assume not. The HK 2020 SE does not have dual sim and the 5.4 is reportedly to be a smaller handset.

If by slim chance the HK version of the 5.4 has dual sim, then I'll end up with 3 iPhone 12's :)

Your assumption is plausible.
But a dual sim 5.4 would be a good to have too.

I'm really surprised about poll's results. I am expecting in terms of sales : 12 > 12 Max >>> 12 Pro Max > 12 Pro.
Remember, Q1 2020 global Sales iPhone 11 = 19,5M units >>> 11 Pro max 4,2M > 11 Pro 3,8M

Why iPhone 12 Max has such bad results on this forum ? I mean ofc the community here is more tech enthusiast than average but this time medium-end got OLED and 5G with a strong price cut vs Pro models. IMO, Non-pro this year are even more appealing than past year. OLED is a big thing compared to LiDAR.

I can't believe how LiDAR or 3rd lens can be so attractive for market if we take into account the price increase for these features. I hope the Pro models will get 120 Hz, if not I suspect an even bigger domination of non-pro models than past year in terms of sales.

I usually go for the smallest Pro size for mobility. But since I work from home now I’ll be getting the Pro Max.

I wish the 5.4 was going to be available in the pro variety. Since it’s not, I’ll probably go 12Pro 6.1. I havent had a large phone since the 7Plus and after a year of that phone size my thumb was cramping up. I’m a little concerned the 6.1 will be too big, as the X I own now is just shy of too big.

From this thread it’s obvious most everyone wants the smallest size possible.

The few who don’t would rather go with the largest size possible and not the middle one. The ones who don’t fall in this camp, don’t want the smallest size only because they’ll miss out on essential features. So had the Pro offered a 5.4” model, they would have bought that instead of the 6.1”.

For almost nobody on this thread is price the main/only reason to go with 5.4”. It’s only the cherry on the top. You get the better sized phone. And it happens to be the cheaper one as well.

I have been saying this for ages. The iPhone 6 had the perfect dimensions. If you could make it very slightly smaller but full size, you’ve got a winner on your hand. And people will buy it regardless of how it is priced, of course within reason.

Something like the 5.4” iPhone is the perfect candidate for almost anybody coming from the SE/6-8/X/11 phone sizes. It’s what everybody has wanted all along. The only reason it won’t be the biggest success of all time is because many people also want every single feature available.

So had the iPhone and iPhone Pro both come in 5.4”, Apple would probably have got >70% of their new iPhone sales from just these two models.
I would probably have purchased a 5.4" Pro model. Obviously it depends on the features and price differences, but I'm buying for the size, not the price point.

I think this is the first year I’m going to downsize from the Plus/Max version. It’s gotten to the point where I would rather have a smaller phone and switch to iPad when I need the bigger screen.
Same. 11PM is about as big as I want to go, so if I get a 12, it will be Pro 6.1", unless by some chance they really shrink the bezels and notch on 6.7 to keep body size close to 11PM

I think I’m going with the 5.4” model. I’m torn between this one and the 6.7” Pro Max. Which one will you pick up?

I can’t believe how many are saying they’re going with a smaller model. I had an iPhone 5s for years and years and once I got the iPhone 11XR I was mindblown for 2 weeks by how small my 5s was and how horrible it was to use and how much better a bigger phone is for typing, interacting with, watching things with, playing games, etc.

I went directly to the 5.5" iPhone 6+ coming from the 4" 5s. After a honeymoon period of around 2 months, I hated the 6+. Just kept dropping the darned thing and wouldn't fit in my pockets (even the ones in my sweater). It was so inconvenient to use for phone type stuff while the screen's still too darned small to drop the iPad from my EDC.

Happily switched to the 4.7" iPhone 6 and never looked back. Very much looking forward to the new 5.4" iPhone 12.

If I'm gonna need two hands to operate a device anyway, I'd much rather have the much larger display of the iPad over an iPhone (unless they make one around iPad mini size).

I’m probably in the minority but I hope they don’t shrink the bezels to keep it to the body size of the 11 Pro Max. I have the XS Max and I feel like it’s too small. If Apple had decided to launch a 7” Pro Max, I’ll be all over it.

You know, I often wonder if it is foolish to consider the smaller iPhone 12 this year. I had that same wow factor going to the 6+ from the 5, and then going to the X. I love the screen, but it’s still kind of clunky to just throw in my pocket, and a 6.1” phone would be even more so. I think use case plays an important factor too. I simply don’t consume much media on my iPhone anymore. Safari, Outlook and iMessage are pretty much my most used apps, so I’m curious to see the 5.4” iPhone 12, and completely prepared to immediately miss that screen real estate. It just seems like a compelling package in the smallest size possible. I think regardless of whether or not I buy the thing, it will be the best selling and most popular iPhone 12 and not just because it’s the lowest priced phone.

I'd stick with the 6.1 inch screen but go for the Pro version.

I’d like to know why people are opting for the Pro 6.1 over the non-Pro?
What exclusive feature/s are most appealing to them on the Pro version?

This is the first series where for me, the non-Pro is a serious option over the Pro.

Some of us are huge photography enthusiasts, and while the non-pros have come closer, they still can't touch the Pros. iPhone 11 bokeh is a joke compared to the 11 Pro bokeh.

Premium materials and 4x4 MIMO is also exclusive to the Pros usually. It's nice to hold a premium phone instead of a plasticy one, and for some people $300 is not that much money considering the tradeoff of using that phone for the next year or two or three (or more?) without a premium feel.

Mark my words I'm fairly certain the 12 non-Pro will sport the same plasticy look of the 11, and will be just as slippery to hold caseless unlike the new Pros which will be the only phones to get the squared new look for now.

Pro models also have a screen with even deeper blacks, as well as 6GB ram instead of just 4GB like the non-pro 12s will likely have.

I also wonder if this year the 12s will still come with only 64gb of space compared to the Pros starting at 128gb at the lowest now.

All of these little things start to add up...

It's a bit like going for the SS or Edition Apple Watches instead of the Aluminum ones, though not completely since in that case you are solely paying the extra money for the appearance and durability, no functionality even.

It's not necessary, but it sure is nice to have premium materials, and to not have a screen that is scratched so easily in the case of the Watch.

To me the money is worth spending on these devices I use nearly all of the time, but ymmv.

MrMacintoshIII : What a great summary. I agree 100%.
Teeny colours, larger bezels, maybe simplier cutted band, unrealistic portrait mode, 64GB base models, 4GB RAM, Lack telephoto, maybe worse night mode (Lidar should helps in Night mode or in video in dark)

"This is the first series where for me, the non-Pro is a serious option over the Pro."

XS over XR - worth
11 Pro over 11 - not so much
12 pro over 12 - probably worth the most

yes, it was much closer between 11 and 11 Pro, although missing OLED would really hurt :(

I’m going from an 8 to likely the 12 Pro 6.1”. It’ll be my first Pro ever and I can’t wait!

I’m sure there’s still a few features we missed between us also!

My plan is to upgrade to the 12 pro max, and then upgrade my rMacbook 12 to a 14" mbp (if we get one) and that will complete my computing / mobile needs.

This eliminates the need for an iPad (which I considered / wanted) and a desktop computer (I have light usage). I also have an external monitor and logitech mouse and keyboard if I need a desk set up.

We’ll have to wait & see if the non-pros are going to be plastic, but no rumours have mentioned this iirc?
instead of just 4GB like the non-pro 12s will likely have.
Ok, this is significant as my current X does leave a lot to be be desired when it comes to RAM management.

Not sure on the colours yet. Bezels shouldn’t be thicker than the X. 5G band is no issue for me, nor is portrait mode, 64gb, but lack of telephoto & night mode may be.

This was based on the non-pro bettering the iPhone X in all areas. If it does, then it’ll be good enough.

Appreciate the responses.
