Remember when the 6 came out and everyone thought it was Huuuuuuuuge! Too big! Phablet!!! Android!!!!

how the turn tables (The Office reference)

If I remember correctly that was the most successful iPhone model of all time.
Even with some forum noise on Macrumors. :)

I can’t believe how many are saying they’re going with a smaller model. I had an iPhone 5s for years and years and once I got the iPhone 11XR I was mindblown for 2 weeks by how small my 5s was and how horrible it was to use and how much better a bigger phone is for typing, interacting with, watching things with, playing games, etc.

Maybe if you only have an iPhone to do everything on. I’ve got an MBP and a home theater with an ATV, PS4, and a Switch. Why do I need a giant phone that I mostly only use to text and browse the Internet? One-handed usability is far more important to me, so 5.4” all the way. I have other devices that can do certain things better than a jack of all trades iPhone.

The 4.7" is actually quite great. Larger screen. Easier to type accurately on (which is one of only two reasons I bought a 7 and not kept my 5s. The other being.... hmm forgot.... maybe camera?).

the 11 6.1" is just too ridiculous. It's heavy and large.

the 5.8" X/11pro was also a good size for maneuverability without being too large.

I think the writing is on the wall right now big screens are a thing. On the other hand, the much more affordable SE continues with said 4.7 inch size too, so at the end of the day there will be options that most will find good.

Yeah, the pros are 6.1 and up. Oh well.
I'm getting a 12 5.4" if it's a reasonable price and looks nice (and worth spending an extra ~$300 for over the SE. I may spring for an SE 128 GB if the 12 isn't impressive since I'm also getting a new Apple Watch. I'm on series 0 baby!!!)

Iphone 12 Pro 6.1. This will be a decent upgrade from my 8. I really am looking forward to the camera upgrade since I have only ever had one lens.

Same here, series 0 refuses to die :)

Many of us use a phone for its intended purpose most of the time, and not as a dedicated streaming and posting computer. As such, the small size is fine for talking and occasional texting.

What is a logical fallacy is thinking that everyone has the same needs and wants as you with a phone.

There are plenty users who are happy with the SE II in terms of size. Some want a more compact device and the forums are filled with reasons why. You just need to go and educate yourself that both customer groups exist.

And I thought I was the only one still wearing a series 0 watch.

I’m on the iPhone 11. Not too big and not too small. But the battery is amazing. I had a double lung transplant in 2016. And I’ve been wearing a mask a lot since. To be honest, if battery life would’ve been better on the SE2, I would’ve downgraded in a second and stayed with it out of the convenience of the button over Face I.D. I like the smaller devices in the pocket too, but if they don’t do something amazing with the battery in 5.4” size, I’ll either stay with the 11 or go basic iPhone 12 in 6.1”.

It’s about portability. I like a big phone but my wife prefers an iPhone 8 sized iPhone so she can fit it in her pockets. Not everybody enjoys carrying big phones and it’s clear there is a significant market for more portable devices.

I’d like to know why people are opting for the Pro 6.1 over the non-Pro?
What exclusive feature/s are most appealing to them on the Pro version?

This is the first series where for me, the non-Pro is a serious option over the Pro.
It’ll be interesting to see how they compare because right now from the rumours the only significant differences are stainless steel edges, an extra camera and maybe 1GB of ram. Not exactly compelling if that’s it? I’m planning on getting the non Pro 6.1” and with rumours the price could be going up another £50 like it did last year, there’s even less reason to opt for the Pro device IMO.

Some of us are huge photography enthusiasts, and while the non-pros have come closer, they still can't touch the Pros. iPhone 11 bokeh is a joke compared to the 11 Pro bokeh.

Premium materials and 4x4 MIMO is also exclusive to the Pros usually. It's nice to hold a premium phone instead of a plasticy one, and for some people $300 is not that much money considering the tradeoff of using that phone for the next year or two or three (or more?) without a premium feel.

Mark my words I'm fairly certain the 12 non-Pro will sport the same plasticy look of the 11, and will be just as slippery to hold caseless unlike the new Pros which will be the only phones to get the squared new look for now.

Pro models also have a screen with even deeper blacks, as well as 6GB ram instead of just 4GB like the non-pro 12s will likely have.

I also wonder if this year the 12s will still come with only 64gb of space compared to the Pros starting at 128gb at the lowest now.

All of these little things start to add up...

It's a bit like going for the SS or Edition Apple Watches instead of the Aluminum ones, though not completely since in that case you are solely paying the extra money for the appearance and durability, no functionality even.

It's not necessary, but it sure is nice to have premium materials, and to not have a screen that is scratched so easily in the case of the Watch.

To me the money is worth spending on these devices I use nearly all of the time, but ymmv.
What premium materials do the Pros have over the standard iPhones? One is stainless steel (heavier) and the other uses aerospace grade 7000 series aluminium. Both of those materials are as premium as one another,it’s just marketing that suggests differently. The iPhone 11 didn’t feel plasticky when I held it? I think this is more about an almost superiority perception rather than the reality that all these iPhones are made well and feel great to use.

I’m just hoping the Pro Max is the ONLY one with sub6 and high band 5g I’ll buy two please. One on T-Mobile and the other on Verizon or unlocked!!

I hope you’re right. Hopefully the standard models will be 4G only as many of us aren’t interested in 5G just yet. It would be a good feature to justify the higher cost of the 12 Pro Max too.

No they all will be 5g but hopefully the others only support sub6

So its seems very few will chose the 6.1" 12 Max
People want the Pro models, or an smaller powerful iphone...not enough room for the 6.1" Max :) i guess it will be the less sold

Would it make a difference to you if they all came with the same 5G capability though if you’re buying the Pro Max anyway? It makes no difference to me what they come with but interested in why you want only one model to have a certain band?

If they all come with the bands then I’m hopelessly buying 3 or 4 I’m not quite sold on the smaller one regardless. And if it’s only one with all bands then no need to buy any other especially on top of having ‘all’ 5g bands it’ll have more premium features too

But seeing the rumors say that only the biggest iPhone can fit mmwave tech I’m hoping it’s true

Fair enough, I don’t really understand why you’d have to buy 3 or 4 iPhones but that’s your business. I decide on one iPhone and stick with it personally. I hope you get your wish on the 5G band, and as I said I’m not bothered either way what my preferred iPhone 12 6.1” comes with .

I’m just hoping it’s only one I buy. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a similar reason I only bought the 11 Pro Max last year but the year before I bought 3 lol
