Yeah got to wait for LTPO next year where we may also see always on display
I'd probably turn AOD off on an iPhone with OLED if the AW is anything to go by. I have faint burn in on my 4 month old AWS5 due to AOD and although I'm not bothered on my watch due to its small screen, it would annoy me on a phone I think. I can't see the point of it on a phone anyway as it wakes up when you move it.

From this thread it’s obvious most everyone wants the smallest size possible.

The few who don’t would rather go with the largest size possible and not the middle one. The ones who don’t fall in this camp, don’t want the smallest size only because they’ll miss out on essential features. So had the Pro offered a 5.4” model, they would have bought that instead of the 6.1”.

For almost nobody on this thread is price the main/only reason to go with 5.4”. It’s only the cherry on the top. You get the better sized phone. And it happens to be the cheaper one as well.

I have been saying this for ages. The iPhone 6 had the perfect dimensions. If you could make it very slightly smaller but full size, you’ve got a winner on your hand. And people will buy it regardless of how it is priced, of course within reason.

Something like the 5.4” iPhone is the perfect candidate for almost anybody coming from the SE/6-8/X/11 phone sizes. It’s what everybody has wanted all along. The only reason it won’t be the biggest success of all time is because many people also want every single feature available.

So had the iPhone and iPhone Pro both come in 5.4”, Apple would probably have got >70% of their new iPhone sales from just these two models.
Lol, Why would apple (or for that matter any company) would make a best phone ? if they make it they will not have a Unique Selling Point for selling the next year's models.
2020 Apple will make rectangle shape phone But with Notch and 5.4"" phone with non pro features
2021 it will continue with same design then will get either 120Hz display or notchless to make it unique, make 5.4' a pro feature and people will go all out on new models
2022 they will make the same phones slim :D
2023 they will make inscreen touch ID and the cycle will repeat for itself :D

That would be a nice feature, I found it reasonably useful on my old Nokias - I've kept raise to wake off to help with battery so have to deliberately press a button to see notifications or time currently.

Might be the 5.4" after I've held it. I have an old SE and love love love the size (I almost exclusively use my phone one-handed and all the "workarounds" such as shrinking the screen, having a finger hook on the back of the phone, etc. are cumbersome and don't fully make up for it). I still think 5.4" is too big but it might be enough of a compromise to get me to finally upgrade. Honestly my SE runs flawlessly/snappy, but I want new cameras, wireless charging and waterproofing.

If they still have a notch, it's none for me... I hate the damn thing!
My 6+ still works, but I wonder if I should buy an 8+ anyway before they disappear... damn you Apple and your cheap tricks - and your stubborness for forcing apps to "embrace" that hole instead of hiding it.

There’s the more recent iPhone SE for you.

Eyeing the 12 Pro. I reckon it’ll have smaller bezels like the X/XS/11Pro before it. That should make the overall device smaller than the current 6.1” 11. If so, I’ll jump on that should pro motion be included.

Barring any problems from battery replacement or 1st gen 5G hardware, I will likely have a 5.4 for at least the next 4 or 5 years, until it becomes like an iPhone 6 is today. It looks that good.

Do you mean the 6, because the 6S was a brilliant device that lasted many years (& is still supported in IOS14).

Are you sure about that? I have a 6s and the battery life has been horrible and the iPhone 6 suffered from bend issues. So, either way, this revision, would best be avoided. Besides, my iPhone X is meeting all my needs.

Battery life was it’s only major issue, but that’ll happen with most phones from that era.
I had the battery replaced for free due to an exchange program, so I guess they knew about it.

Once the battery was replaced (a year after release), it was a great device.

When the 6S was new or within its first 3 years the battery life was fine. It was probably my favourite iPhone at one point and a significant upgrade from my iPhone 6. Don’t forget the 6S is 5 years old now so you’d expect the battery life to be poor compared to current devices.

So, you are telling me about my own phone I bought at the Apple Store in Bellevue? Also, I replaced the battery for $29 and it’s still bad. I have seen the opposite with the iPhone X.

The iPhone X is much newer than the 6S at this point and I would expected its more efficient processor and more modern battery will outperform it. I was just saying that the 6S was a brilliant phone and a top performer for the first 3 years it was available and its only recently the later iOS updates have had an effect on the battery.

That’s slightly incorrect. It doesn’t ‘wake’ when you just ‘move it‘. ‘Raise to Wake’ is enabled when The sensor actually detects forward motion in an upright position. There’s a huge difference between AOD versus Raise to Wake.

I am happy to see how many people have chosen the smaller 5.4" iPhone 12.

Apple's gonna be surprised to see the popularity for their smaller phone and will be kicking themselves for not offering one sooner!

Well see what the feature difference is between the pro and non-pro models. If there is something on the Pro I really want then I'll go the 6.1, otherwise it's the 5.4.

Looking like a dissapeointng release so far, going off the leaks and rumours, No LPTO display, no 120hz screen, smaller batteries. Looking more like a s release than a 12 release.

No one care about the stupid Lidar feature.

Got a buyer lined up for my XS Max, might end up selling for a reasonable price this year, instead of losing more money next year.

Most likely end up getting the 12 pro Max, hopefully 5g and lidar ain't the only standout features. 🥺
