Just touching base, no £20k battery failures this week, car hasn’t caught fire or caught fire and taken my house with it. The wife hasn’t been stranded by the side of the road after running out of range on her trip to Maidenhead this week and didn’t have to queue for any public chargers. It’s all good still with an EV, no horror stories to report yet. Charged overnight and cost £4.36 at £0.07 per kW.
I went to Ripon on Monday. There were 6 bays where I stopped at Nottingham. I was the only one there (about 8:30 am).
I charged in Ripon (4 bays) and only myself and one other using.

I stopped on the M1 (can’t remember where) and there were around 8 bays and two in use. When I came out there was another i3 in Melbourne Red like mine (well not as new or an S).

I suppose the lack of queuing must be due to the amount of EV’s that just couldn’t make it as far as a charger and broke down? At least they were kept warm on the motorway by all the other EV’s burning away. It’s a wonder I made it!

I understand people have different needs, but I do not think the average person needs a lot more range that a lot of EVs have now. My TM3 LR 2019 gives me roughly 400-450km, and maybe 350 on a cold winters day. I honestly haven't been bothered to check.
Most road trips we do are in the 3 hours range, either down the coast in summer or to the mountains in the winter (250-300km). So I seldom have to charge other than at home, but we usually do one stop for a coffee or a WC visit and I do those at a SC station just to top up the battery a bit. a 15 min break gives me plenty of juice.
So after spending 6 years with the original Ioniq with a 200ish Km range, I never once had range anxiety in my TM3.
I will never buy a petrol family car again, I might buy a vintage roadster again when the kids are a bit older though.
When I drive a petrol car now, the pain of paying (an absurd amount these days) money at the pump is far worse than any range anxiety I might experience in my EV
You must be wrong. Unless an EV can drive for 24 hours without stopping (because who needs to sleep, eat or pee right?) and can be fully charged in 1 second they will never work. I know that’s true. Some bloke who has never been in an EV told me, so it must be true? 😀

I’m never buying a petrol car again either.

I think we have charged 4 times in public now and not had an issue, always plenty of bays. It is rare we use public charging as we all seem to say here, most of our journeys are local enough.

Local journeys…. Always charge at home…. Cannot remember the last time I called at a Charging Station?
I thought I would hate EV’s and worry…. To date it has been a whole transformation and now look at fossil fuel as the evil one.

We will buy our first electric car soon. We are considering Renault Megane E-Tech. What kind of car do you think? We do not have to worry about electricity, we produce it ourselves. We installed solar panels on the roof of our a few months ago.

That’s quite a U-turn based on your recent comments about EV’s.

Cool car, nice Android Automotive Operating Systen in it. Enjoy 👌

Out of interest have you got your “charger” integrated with your solar system and utilise battery storage as well?

Really?
Why would anyone here believe what you're saying above? just look below ...

Continuation from 2005 1.3 Opel Corsa with exhaust and software. I won't drive if I have to, but I will never drive an electric car.

There is excessive incentive for electric cars here. Tax cuts are huge. But we only like gasoline, diesel, LPG and LNG. Is there a car without an exhaust sound?

I think electric cars are currently failing. Cold and hot weather conditions, ridiculously rugged environments, charging time is terrible. They give Porsche Taycan a range of 400 km, but it barely goes 270 km. We are currently in winter, the temperature has dropped to -20° in the central parts of the country. Batteries are freezing, there are many stranded vehicles. Also, in a mountainous place like Anatolia, there are extremely steep slopes. These knock out both gasoline cars and electric cars. Charging time is a fiasco in itself. If we say that it takes 50 minutes for the battery of an average electric car to go from empty to full, we can reach our destination on foot. Also, batteries emit radiation. Our people are afraid of radiation and cannot enter the MRI machine. Should they ride in an electric car?

Cancer cases will explode in 20 years. The reason is high batteries.
In addition, the damage produced by the battery of an electric car is the same as that of a fuel car in 1 year.

Today we participated in the test drive of the car I mentioned. We went on a tour on the Adana highway. It completely destroyed my prejudices. Tesla is cheaper than Renault, but we don't like Tesla. Continuing from Renault. We already have Kangoo and 1.3 Megane

I mean it’s up to you as it’s your money, but I’d steer clear of a French EV personally. Tesla have over a decade in the market and generally make a much better EV in my opinion but if you like Renault, go for it.

LOL Who is showing their prejudice now 🤣 Dude there is nothing wrong with the Renaults. And they have been in EV very successfully since 2013, so longer than most.

They have a pretty good track record.

Yes, as the other friend said, they have been producing electric vehicles for many years. It is also the first brand to produce electric commercial vehicles in the world. They made a 200 km range panel van in 2012. Renault Master Z.E. Search for it. At the same time, European brands are more common in Europe. You won't find many people who love Tesla in Europe.

And on top of that, I would hazard a guess that there are a lot more autopart stores and Renault service places than Tesla.

Enjoy it, they make some awesome models.

This site lists the Tesla Model Y as the 11th highest in 2022:

These sites lists the Tesla Model Y as the 1st in 2023:

And we all know the worldwide #1 selling vehicle in 2023 was the Tesla Model Y

The stats don’t lie, yet at the same time they don’t say everything.

There is no denying it’s Europes best selling vehicle. Actually it’s the worlds isn’t it. Yet you don’t see one on every street corner, and that is that area where stats don’t say everything.

When in rural …. (Fill in as good as any European country) you won’t see the same I bet.

Just like when I’m in London or Knokke you see lots of super and hyper cars. Yet if you are in Telford or Liege not so much.

I’m from Europe and aware of the commercial vehicles side of the EV market through my work. I haven’t worked with Renault but have with Mercedes, VW and MAN. Tesla is very popular in Europe in the domestic market and has been the biggest selling brand in the EV sector for a number of years now. Tesla’s are like the Vauxhall Astra now, due to them being affordable.

Still doubt "You won't find many people who love Tesla in Europe" is a true statement when the number 1 selling vehicle is a Tesla (and that doesn't even account for TM3, TMS, and TMX sales)...

Sale numbers speak for themselves... More new car buyers have not only decided to go EV, but they picked a specific make/model, and I believe for the first time an SUV topped the sales chart.
