And what? are they spying on you in the bedroom, in the bathroom or what. Do you fear there are persons in trench coats watching you from the shadows? Don’t forget iOS hasn’t been immune to malware.

Talk about a succour for a bold headline.

Have you ever heard the term about placing all you eggs in one basket? That in a nutshell is the Apple business model.

No he just doesn’t want to use google.
Don’t know why you feel insulted by it.

They get consumers in so deep they feel they cannot afford to get out. That is why I use both systems with minimal investment in either.

But to keep using old cliches about Android fragmentation and how Apple just works is no longer a valid statement.

Also let's be honest about this, iOS is stultifyingly boring and restrictive.

What’s the point?
Dipping your toes in both ponds sounds extremely boring, I would rather pick one and jump in.

I went all with iOS and it really just works, if I didn’t like it I would have went all in with android.

I don’t really find iOS restrictive, I actually pay for movies and media.

The eggs in the basket is related to investing money with an expected roi, no idea why you think this applies to consumer product and services.

Plus if you only dip your toes into both ecosystems, you never get the full benefit of either. And why would you deliberately want to compromise your experience?

No idea. Some people don’t make much sense.

That’s why I go all in. If it doesn’t work I try something else.

That's fine, I don't have a problem with that, but then why go on to make statements in an attempt to validate the decision which are patently incorrect?

Which is what Apple wants you to do. How can dipping your toes in both ponds be extremely boring, that argument is simply not logical.

You say you went all in, it just works and you like it. No one is arguing it just works but as an Apple owner myself I know just how expensive and difficult it can become to extricate yourself from the system.

I use my iPad every day and think it's a great tablet experience. However, I find I use my iPhone less and less as Android has improved over the years - it's now a very enjoyable user experience. There is a far greater choice of hardware on Android and some of that hardware is pretty darn good. The big Chinese players are now becoming an unstoppable force with top of the range hardware at a much better price point than Apple.

When I pick up my iPhone and look at just how dated iOS looks, plus the restrictions on customisation, then look at what Android has to offer, it's just too good to resist.

I tried going IOS and android. Simply doesn’t work for me

Also having two phones was annoying as picking different ones up wasn’t ideal. My partner who didn’t like the thought of me having two phones. Looks dodgy from her point of view.

It’s not a good experience, from a users point of view.

Keeping an android and iOS smartphone in sync is bothersome and annoying.

I just use two iPhones instead. iCloud , Apple Music, iTunes media, messages, camera roll, and apps all are synced by Apple between devices, don’t have to do anything.

They also keep things in sync between my ipads and macs, that plus countiuity, not having to do anything is fantastic.

I can see why your partner would find it dodgy.

I’m not someone who likes to mess around too much with phones and like the ease of transitioning to a new iPhone etc. Restoring from back up was a major attraction for me when I came to the iPhone.

I’m a basic smartphone user who does all the basic tasks needed on a smartphone. I find iOS intuitive and pleasant to use, not to mention easy. Nearly all my family and friends also use iPhones so at this point in time there is no point in me moving to Android and creating more problems than I need. I am happy with the features available and I like the physical product. Nobody else needs to be convinced of this as it’s my money and choice, not theirs.

No continuity, handoff, iMessage and calling across all devices. No synchronised photo library/albums in the cloud and on device. No Instant Hotspot or device unlocking.

Messages on Android works perfectly fine. Google Photos is the best there is by far, all fully synchronised, more free storage and the photos don't count against storage. As for calling across all devices, well how often is that used?

Go on carry on as Frasier would say 'I'm listening'. Don't forget I own and use both systems.

His statements weren’t made to validate his decision, he was offering an explanation as to why he is avoiding google services.

You shouldn’t take offense by it.

Google date mines it users. That’s valid.

What they do with the data, that’s conjecture and thats what your trying to argue.

Which is what Apple wants you to do. How can dipping your toes in both ponds be extremely boring, that argument is simply not logical.

Great Apple and I want the same things. Talk about luck.

No. What’s expensive is buying another device that you don’t need.

I would love to carry one iPhone. I currently travel with 3.

It just takes time not money to leave Apple. but again why would I want if it works. It’s actually harder to extricate yourself from google than it is with Apple. Since your a paying customer they don’t really want your data if your not paying. I like that.

Try erasing all your photos on google photos.
It’s a mess.

So get rid of it.
I agree android is cheaper. But not better.
It’s not a consistent os. It changes every year.
And they half ass a lot it, just look at how they copied gestures.

Actually there isn’t a greater choice on android.

In 2018 there are 11 devices offered for the same price as an iPhone not much of a choice.

When I pick up my iPhone and look at just how dated iOS looks, plus the restrictions on customisation, then look at what Android has to offer, it's just too good to resist.

You mean consistent.
That’s a major selling point for Apple consistency.

Never picked up my iPhone to admire it. I’m usually doing something on it

You care about customization others care more about privacy.

That's fine and I accept that. Then again you aren't coming up with a load of twaddle about why one is better than the other. Just as an aside, restoring Android from a backup is every bit as easy as doing it on iOS. You just switch your phone on sign into Google and that's it, a short while later everything is running and looks exactly the same.

The big benefit to me with Android (especially now with the big Chinese players entering the market) is that you can get hardware every bit as good as the iPhone but save a shed load of money into the bargain.

Google photos stores photos in the cloud, not locally, that’s also the other problem.

Sorry. It’s not the same.

You have both devices, but you haven’t used the iPhone like you do android. try iMessage and iCloud for a month and see for yourself.

Continuity and handoff pretty much all the time.

It’s shame you spent all that money on an iPhone never really used it.
I can see why you would think it’s wasteful.

Restoring an iPhone from an encrypted back up is much more comprehensive then what google offers.

Think it’s because your dipping your toe, you can’t see the difference between restoring in iOS vs android.

And how many phones that are just as good as iPhone hardware that are nowhere near Apple's pricing. I note the absence of the OP6.

Your arguments are all over the place and lack any coherence. They remind me of a supermarket dash. The only reason for the iPhone to be priced at those price points is sheer greed on the part of Apple - no other reason. It never ceases to amaze me how eager some people are to have their wallets not only emptied but then to congratulate the company that's doing it.

I spent precisely nothing on the iPhone - it was given to me as a present. I switched off iCloud as like a great many Apple users I much prefer Google Drive or failing that OneDrive. Nowhere near enough storage with iCloud.

How on earth can it be more comprehensive? A 100% identical back up is just that. I did a clean install on my S7 a few weeks ago when moving to Oreo. A short while later everything was as I had left it before the reset.

Saying that both iOS and Android (as platforms, OSes, and devices) are not optimal is an understatement. They both have too many hardware, software, battery, UI, durability, security, pricing, support, form factor, design issues and flaws. And most importantly, they have too many privacy issues. I try to avoid both as much as I can.

You keep attacking Apple on price.

Ha ha. I wouldn’t like it if my husband had two phones. My husband doesn’t like me having two phones but that’s because he thinks it’s a waste of money.

I’ve tried having 2 phones 3 years in row. Just doesn’t work. I always have to force myself to use the android phone and after the novelty wears off it ends up in a drawer. Last two Samsung phones I didn’t even bother to put a SIM card in. It is annoying because I just want to use my iPhone because everything I do there syncs with my other devices.

Just can’t find a way to use both phones. So I have to stick with iOS.

That’s great if you can do that but if I don’t use my iPhone then I loose out on the integration with all my Apple products. I bought all my Apple devices so they could work together. If I didn’t care about integration I would just have Mish mash of different devices.

Anytime I receive a phone call, if I’m using my iPad, MacBook or watch I can simply take the call there instead of having to run about and find me phone. It happens a lot. Or sometimes I need to make a call but I don’t have my iPhone in my hand. That’s fine I can just use my MacBook to make the call.

Google photos is ok but it drains the battery on my iOS devices if I have it set to back up my pictures. Messages on android might be fine but I can’t read and send messages on my iPad or Apple Watch or have the read to me on my HomePod if I use and android phone.

Is it really as good though. Often times you get what you pay for. A cheap Chinese android phone is not as good as a Samsung flagship phone. Likewise it’s not as good as an iPhone. Don’t be fooled by specs on a sheet of paper. Android phones are like PC’s. You get what you pay for.

You can store photos locally and have them on Google photos. However, local storage is now not really necessary for the majority of things which is why whenever I buy a new device I go for the minimum storage option which saves me a lot of money.

Messages can certainly sync with Chrome on the desktop. I don't have any use for a cellular iPad so iMessage is not an issue. Nor do I have an iWatch. In fact I don't wear a watch period though if I did it would be a traditional analogue movement.

Sounds like you won’t benefit from the Apple ecosystem then the way I do.

That requires you to use chrome. I want to use safari across all my Apple devices.

You don’t need a cellular iPad to use iMessage. It works over WiFi.

Hmm! let's examine this a bit closer. I own an iMac, iPhone, iPad, ATV, Airport Time Capsule but I don't get Apple users? I think your assessment of that is completely wrong.

I also see the benefits of saving a shed load of cash by choosing hardware that's every bit as good but costs a lot less using a system that will do the same job just as competently as Apple.

Now you tell me what's not to like?

Well said. :p You have to pay premium price to get a Mac, iPhone, apple tv, watch and iPad in order to have these functionalities.

For me I don't have to pay cut throat prices or purposely buy new hardware in order to do these and more. And I can have these capabilities using any existing hardware.
