So my reason for why iOS is my preference over android has been restrengthen recently with visual proof.

The new Note 9 which is an overclocked snapdragon 845 is faster than the Samsung S9 which beat the iPhone X in real world test when opening and closing apps when the first S9 released.

Now with an iOS beta 12 update, we see last years X beating the Note 9 that was just released.

Wow.

I never saw these kind of updates with any android OS. Not to mention ALL iPhones back to the 5S will see an increase in performance when iOS 12 goes live!

Looks like they improved the hell out of RAM management.
I watched that video and thought the reviewer's conclusion was a bit off. He said that the Note 9 couldn't keep pace with the iPhone X and yet in so many of the 'tests' (which aren't really scientific in any way) the Note 9 decisively outperformed the X.

Either way, I have a Note 9, S9 and iPhone X sitting right here with me now and they're all brilliant phones in their own way. Anyone who owns one of these devices will surely be happy.

While I'm not a fan of "speed" tests that open and close apps serially, I remember the ios 11 version, which wasn't as decisive as ios 12. Whatever Apple did under the covers seems to have worked.

Until someone sends you a text with a certain character and it locks up iMessage lol.

I'm sorry, but that's just sad.

I can see your point, but look at the flip side. Google is very transparent about what it uses your data for, and seeing what it collects on you. There is a dashboard that shows you everything it has, lets you view it, and lets you delete whatever data you want that it has stored. Also, since Google makes their money on your data, you know they will do everything in their power to protect it so it doesn't leak out to any other company, as they have a vested interest in keeping your data private to only them. Apple on the other hand preaches about security, but is very secretive about what it does with the data it does have on you (i.e. Apple Maps)

Except google lies about letting you delete it (https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy...-privacy-when-it-secretly-kept-location-data/).

I got an iPhone 3G to replace a Samsung Blackjack. I had been dismayed about the lag between the OS update being available for my phone and Samsung and AT&T giving up on selling me a new phone and releasing the update (I love software updates on iOS). The App store was amazing. Red Laser Scanner alone paid for the next couple of phones (before they nerfed it).

This was what switched me to Macs. I freed up hours of tech support for my wife by putting her on a mac. It was the same with phones. Her HTC chewed through batteries like nobody's business, especially when using GPS (and she kept asking me why GPS was such a power hog, as if knowing that would somehow reduce the battery consumption). It locked up more than a bank during the holiday season. The iPhone didn't.

I liked the applications. I liked that as long as you stayed in the walled garden, everything just worked. I know how to climb over the wall, but I don't have to most of the time. I like my privacy. It isn't just that google has it. Google sells it. Hackers find their way to it. Once something gets out, you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube.

I get that there are a lot of things you can do on Android that are at least much more difficult on Apple, but those are not things I am trying to do. I don't mess around with torrents at all. Most of the good apps are also on iOS because users there seem more inclined to pay for apps. I am willing to shell out a few bucks to ditch the ads, so it works for me.

And iMessage is great. I love how it syncs between devices, even over wifi.

And if iPhones suck, why do the other makers strive so hard to emulate them? I can give props to Windows phone. It wasn't for me, but at least they TRIED to do something different and original.

What you are trying to compare seems to change depending on what point others make. One minute it’s straight up Android vs iOS, then it’s a combination of that with different devices added to compare hardware too. If you are just comparing the OS then pretty much every smartphone on the market is capable of achieving the basic demands of the everyday user.

At the high end of the market the flagships are all close in capability. They are all fast, have stunning cameras, screens and are beautifully crafted pieces of product design. We all have different views on what is the best package for us and for me it’s the combination of iOS and the iPhone. Others like yourself have different needs and priorities but personally I don’t care what others use as long as they enjoy it. I have never needed to convince anybody my choices are better in order to feel good about what I’ve bought.

Unfortunately threads like this go beyond discussing the merits of different devices and evolve into tit for tat bickering over finer details that not everybody really considers or cares about.

I concurred with your point on everyone having different priorities and preferences but when ifans went to the extent of saying "if not in iphone, then those are crap features that nobody wants" , I think this is just pathetic debating. Many times this assertion has been proven wrong. Case in point - big screen, widget, water proofing, notification shade, oled and many others. I think even the most avid android/samsung fans don't stoop so low to this level when debating. Android fans offer more constructive counter argument using "android can do that too" with examples.

Pot calling the kettle there I think as you consistently poke fun at the iPhone for not having features you use on Android. I think it’s true of any device that it has features that 90% of users never use or realise it has and that goes for the iPhone too.

You have a long history of really disliking Apple and the iPhone but I’d like to ask you; why do you think some people choose the iPhone over say a Galaxy device?

So how does it go? Highlighting ACTUAL features android/samsung have over Iphone is poking fun? A bit thin-skinned if you ask me :p

You got it wrong. I don't dislike iphone per se. I just don't want it because it can't do many things I wanted. Unlike some who dismissed androids because they don't have an apple logo. I never questioned anyone's choice or what they wanted. Of course I would say something if that person touted his choice which was made based on certain untruth factors about the competing phones.

It’s not just about pointing out the differences though, it’s about the maturity in how those points are delivered. Suggesting the iPhone is for ‘idiots’, a device that is in the ‘stone age’, labelling people here as crazed ifans etc just puts you in the same category of debating that you criticised in your last post. I’m not thin skinned at all as I’m not the one who has an issue with others not using the same phone and platform as me.

That’s not an issue, and I believe recently you were corrected on an untruth you told about iCloud accounts being hacked due to Apples insufficient security measures which was in fact false. They were in fact compromised through weak passwords often from third party email accounts. Naturally you never responded to being corrected.

So to repeat my question in the last post that you missed; why do you think people buy iPhones rather than alternatives that you deem to be better all round?

I have switched from android to ios, back to android en maybe back to iOS with the iPhones 2018.
Main reason to switch is the updates. Paying 1000 dollars for a phone (Note 9) that only get's one, maybe two updates doesn't feel right. And even then it takes 6-9 months.

Maybe you should direct the "correct the untruth" campaign towards the hundreds of news sites which reported it as "icloud hacking". Many here (incl. you??? :p) labeled Android as unsecured when the actual people affected by actual hack are minuscule compared to overall. A bit of hypocrisy going on here that you dont go and "correct this untruth"?

Why do some people stick with same carrier eventhough it's more expensive? Why do some people get scammed? Why do some people want the latest trend? Why do some people want what their friends have?

Security updates don't count as extra service. This is something all phones should get and should not be special. I was talking about major versions. Some iOS phones get over 5 years of major versions. With my current S8 I can be happy if I get a update to Android Pie. And even if I get it, it will be around the time android Q will be released.

The truth was published and discussed at length on here concerning iCloud access. Weak Gmail passwords were cited and Apple themselves addressed it.

I haven’t made any particular claims of Android being insecure apart from reading what has been published in the press and the measures google have taken to rectify it. Would you be able to provide proof I have made any slanderous claims to back up the fact you are labelling me a ‘hypocrite’ here?

Have you ever owned any apple devices?

A few of my (extended) family members use iphone (some which were bought with my money).

But that's not what you want to know :) . Ok, I have used iphone on and off (but not as a primary device). I know iphone well enough (but not to the minute details). Anyway, from user point of view, iOS is still very basic and changes are hard to come by from version to version.

Well, major functionalities in Android are added via app updates (unlike iOS). So there is really nothing to brag about with iOS yearly updates. My S8+ was upgraded from v7.x to v8.x. Frankly, I dont feel any "update" at all.

Thanks for the video.

After processing that 8k video the note 9 couldn’t really keep Any apps open in the background even with double the memory compared to the x.

The iPhone X plus is shaping up to be a beast.

News sites can report whatever they want. It was not a security flaw. It was a phishing scheme:

The note 9 didn’t keep pace on the video.
This review was using an iPhone X with iOS 12 beta 8.

The discrepancy in performance between this video and rest is due to iOS 12 beta 8.

The review did mention the note 9 interface “felt clunky” compared to the iPhone X.
They attributed this to the iPhone X rendering Touch input at a refresh rate of 120 hz.

Didn’t know the iPhone X did that.

I use both OS's and Androids (mainly owned Samsungs) are feature-packed, yes... Firmware flashing/ODIN, Vanced, PIP's, TerrariumTV, Kodi, launchers, substratum, etc. Had my fair share of messing around with these, yet at end of the day, I prefer my iPhone. Why? Everything from the UI, to gestures work seamlessly. App store selection and quality is much better than Google Play's. iMessage, Notes, Handoff, Airdrop, iCloud in synchronization.

Overall, just straight up reliable and low maintenance. My work day is stressful enough so I prefer not to tinker with my phone. Just my 2 cents.

If you go read about Android "hacks", the above type of exploits may apply to them as well. You are just trying to deflect responsibility from iCloud. By whatever means do not matter but end result is iCloud account got compromised. Why didnt Apple implement a better security to prevent this (indirect hack)??. At the end of the day, icloud is still vulnerable like any other systems out there. Labeling iclould as secured with lots of caveats and labeling Android not secured with no caveats hmmm....can I use the "h" word here again?

You will get android pie, probably in about 8-9 months but that will be the last update for your S8 as Samsung flagships get major OS updates for 2 years.

You are just using fallacy from years gone by. Android is now straight up reliable and low maintenance too. My s8+ can go thousands of hours uptime with no issues. App crashes are so rare now that you will be lucky to experience one.

On app store selection being better - it is just far from reality. Go find a theme or icon pack or automation apps or call management/recording apps. None in app store. There are many apps in hundreds of different application areas and use cases that are not available in AppStore.

Tell me again what differences android pie makes to S8? :)

Guestures. That’s about it. Better off waiting for Samsung to back port some S9 plus features next year.

iOS updates bring more new features.

No need to wait.

Think "one-handed+" Samsung app now can do gestures nicely. And gesture is activated from side instead of bottom which is much better. Many more options including assigning different actions depending on the angle of the swipe from edge. Many actions incl. back, home, notification shade, toggle previous app, move screen down (like with with iphone), turn off screen, reduce screen size

I’m not deflecting responsibility away from iCloud because the responsibility was always with the user storing information within their gmail accounts in the first place. For example using the same weak password for two applications. iCloud was never hacked, it was simply accessed via information obtained from another source and that was down to each user being careless.

If you find out a Hollywood stars password for gmail is ‘qwerty1’ or ‘12345’ and happens to be the same for their iCloud account or their online banking, who is at fault?
Not deflecting at all. My series of questions where the answers are what you wanted to know.
Your questions ask why people like familiarity which is one of my reasons, trends and a rather bizarre question about being scammed. I don’t think you really take on board actual reasons given here which is why you consistently promote the hard sell for your chosen operating system. I’m going to go out on a limb here and assume you may be linked with some kind of sales career in real life. That’s not criticism either.

Just wanted to add an additional iOS benefit, it is STILL the only platform which supports good and high spec SMALL phones! Pretty much every Android phone with good and high end specs is bigger then the SE or 6, 7 and 8 4.7” platforms.
Many people chose the smaller iPhones due to their compact sizes. It’s a big reason for some to prefer iOS over Android.

I am getting old, I used to be iPhone or nothing, but lately after switching 2 years ago, I can really say it depends on what you do.

The main app works the same, and I am not going to install a million app anyway, so as long as i have :

Whatsapp
Browser
Youtube
Any mail app
Sms
Home automation apps
Bank app
Phone app
Camera App
Meteo
Calendar
some sort or music app

I am more than happy, they need to be quick, and they are if you quick the right device, but with Android I can now do it for 1/3rd of the price of what I used to sepnd before.

Took some time to adjust, but really anything you can do in one you can do on the other.
