my comparison wasn't meant about the stability / features. More about Microsoft releasing a product with a high barrier for hardware. For vista era the requirements were out of reach of 80% of the computer users. Vista if powered right ran suprisingly well.

That was the only point of my comparison, didn't mean to go into super depth about the OS features and performance itself
I think this is by design. IMO it allows Microsoft to draw a line in the sand, wherever it may be, for supported hardware.

I bit the bullet and installed the newest Windows 11 preview yesterday (after being on the latest Windows10 version earlier) due to my Microsoft wireless adapter not syncing anymore with my Xbox headset (after the later had an update). No updates available, no workarounds helped, so I thought I might as well try it.

I used an old MS Insider account, as my hardware does not fullfil their current processor minimum requirement, but everything else easily.

the wireless adapter and headphones connect again without any issues.
So far have had no issues with web browsing (Firefox, Edge) watching movies with VLC Player or File Explorer and office tasks whatsoever.

Had 1 bug where the taskbar stayed "empty", then was slow to load, but I think that had nothing to to with system requirements and more with it being only the 3rd dev version and naturally not quite bug free yet.

Visually it's a nice upgrade, once you get rid of these good awful wallpapers.
Don't mind the centered task bar, you can still left align it if you want.
So far the only thing I didn't like is there is (at least currently) no way to modify the "Start Menu" and get rid of the recommended section which in my case is black/empty, forcing me to move up higher to click on my pinned Apps and the search bar.

Got it running on my i9 gaming rig and runs well, it’s a nice upgrade from Win 10 and looks more modern

Just had to convert from MBR to GPT and enable secure boot and PTT in the bios and installed issue free.

Just ordered a XPS 15 to replace my 2013 rMBP so looking forward to having it on there but will wait until release

Like myself. I am not going to install until it's public release on my two machines. I tried insider on my last dell and it screwed it up to the point I had to re'install windows.

I’m on the first Insider channel because of WSL stuff and that’s ok, but the last time I tried the development channel I had to reinstall my system.

I've had a ton of practice reinstalling Windows. I have a backup Windows system which is relatively beefy except for the CPU which I usually do testing and practice on. It won't be useful for playing around with Windows 11. I really don't want to play around with my production system until Release though I wouldn't mind testing it out on a Virtual Machine. I need to figure out how to get an ISO.

Both of my systems now are 90% work systems. I cannot afford to have one go down, so I may pick up a cheap 3rd desktop and connected it into the second dv port on my touch monitor to play around with. Well, actually a cheap 8th systems. I have systems everywhere but all are needed to be operational at all times.

Anyone know if Windows 11 will run flawlessly with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 ??

Anyone try it out ?

I am afraid - my Windows 10 setup is just perfect...

Gaming was one focus of their presentation, so I’m sure it will work just as before ore better once it releases.

Until MSFS2020 is updated to run using DX12, I doubt there will be any difference running the game under Windows 11.

Over here
Using it for a few weeks, bugs aside I really like 11. The changes are good but not a significant move away from 10.

I know some see it more as window-dressing but you can't divert too far away from the existing familiarity people have with Windows.

Intel's roadmap isn't that bad, especially if leaving x86 is difficult. I am going to consider an upgrade to Alder Lake (desktop) when it comes out if there are significant performance improvements. I plan to use Windows alongside an M1X system on my desktop, at least until the software that I need is ported natively to M1. Zen4 is also a possibility but we'll see how supply goes. It's been a lot easier getting Intel parts for some time now.

A minor issue for sure, but I prefer the older way of starting the task manager. I keep right clicking the task bar and that doesn't work of course.

I'm sure I am preaching to the choir here, but I have put the Task Manager on the task bar. I also have the Addgadgets All CPU Meter gadget running, and double-clicking on that brings up the Task Manager

I've already gotten used to the new way which is more organized since everything is under one place so maybe easier for new users to Windows.

Windows 11 is now rolled out to the beta ring. And it looks like I can't opt out of that? I'm scared now, that's my work machine and I'm on beta only because of WSL related stuff I need for work :/

You should be able too, its the same build as the developer preview but I've (in the past) opted out of the fast track. As mentioned by MS, people who want to stay on the windows 11 track should change their fast track to beta from developer to remain on the windows 11 process which I'll be doing

I am on beta and the Windows 11 update is queued up in my Windows Updates. I have no idea how to remove it from that

I'm a bit surprised that people on Beta and developer channels don't do multiboot or use Virtual Machines for the different environments. I have stable environments and test on VMs or bootable external SSDs.

I needed the beta channel at some point to use WSL at work 🤷‍♂️

I had a spare machine, so the risk level is relatively low for me.
what’s gonna happen if your on Dev / Beta when Win 11 is officially released is it 100% fresh install
I just suspend the insider program and I'll be fine.
