Having a Lagunitas Dark Swan Sour. Now this is an interesting purple colored sour that shocked me when I poured it and a purple head rose in the snifter. At least until I realized it has grapes in it:D

I'm letting it warm slightly from the fridge. I can definitely smell the grape, and it goes well with the sour smell and taste. It has a slight warming quality once sipped.

I'm digging this beer and and always thought that beer and grapes would never "the twain shall meet". But this beer works for me. I'm wondering what food pairings might go well with this unique beer? I had some veggie "potato" style chips and liked it with this sour.

I'm glad Lagunitas beer has been made available where I live. In the past I could only getting it while visiting California.

Are you big into the sours? I know there are a lot of sour fests down in my neck of the woods! Heck, I just went to one a few weeks back at one of the local brewery's. I am not a big fan, but the people we went with are huge fans. So I end up tagging along with hopes there are other beer styles present.

I have yet to see a purple one though! I have seen orange, some of them had a rather strange orange glow about them!

I do like to have alternatives to the ubiquitous IPA ;) I note in my local grocery store, that has a huge beer selection, IPA's have taken over at least 80%!

Don't get me wrong. I do love IPAs, but I appreciate them more if I can take a break. Of course I couldn't drink more than a glass or two of sours. They certainly aren't "session" beers :D

I hear yeah. I am more of a Stout, Porter, and Belgium guy, however I have also noticed the huge influx of IPA's taking over not only super markert/liquor store shelves, but also the local taps at my favorite beer houses and restaurants.

Sounds fascinating.

What was the percentage of the respective grape strains?
I should have asked. Although from my guess—it was deeply floral and fruity, but with solid acid to keep it refreshing—I might say approximately half and half.

Tonight I had a fabulous little Catalan red, a blend of Grenache, Merlot, Sumoll, and Monastrell. I was not familiar with that third grape. Decent body, red berries, licorice, etc. I then had a very interesting red from Valencia that reminded me strongly of Amarone.

Amarone? Yum. Sounds delicious.

Priorat (DOQ), a beautiful red wine from Catalunya this evening.

Now, that is someplace (and its wines) that I have never heard of.

Thanks for the link. How would you describe it?

In my experience, some of the really good Spanish wines are so hefty that they need a lot of time to breathe (or to be decanted); it can take several hours for the sharpness to evaporate and a welcome smoothness to put in an appearance.

Bell's Two Hearted Ale vs. Lagunitas Little Sumpin'. Well I'm taking one for the team by tasting a bottle of each ;) I've been a big fan of Bell's Two Hearted, but I'm going to give it to Lagunitas for having a bit more malt taste in the background of the hops. I will admit that the Bell's is a little more exciting on the tongue. Heck I like them both. But when I think Ale, I do think malty.
