This all makes for an entertaining read, but for most of you, if you take a step back you'll realize your arguments for or against a respective OS is 100% laughably biased. Whether this is because you have to justify your choices via a social media median, or because you enjoy the freedom to be caustic alloyed to you by the anonymity of this forum. Be honest, your situation is your own and largely non applicable to others. The OP asked about the S20, not why your choice is morally superior.

I will not question the value ones finds, as a disabled person, from one OS to the next. All I can say is awesome, because for all the grief technology has caused, it has also improved lives. Incredible to hear.

A few thoughts to end on:

- Do what you want, but your data isn't any more secure, private, or so forth to a degree that matters on either OS. At least with Google they are up forth about it, and any data that is harvested is anonymized. You are just a spec of dust in the air. If a state actor or sophisticated non-state actor wants your information, they probably already have it. You don't have to believe this, but it doesn't change the reality.

-Googles Titan M (or whatever it is called) security chip on the pixel results on end to end encrypted backups and data of your phone. Apple iCloud back ups are not end to end encrypted, and are willing handed over to the authorities when needed (research it, easy enough to prove). In either case, see the above point. If you want to be safe and private your only option is to disconnect or exist within a highly secure intranet (as opposed to internet). Google "scif" and you will understand how governments and intelligence agencies approach this.

-Ecosystems exist on both sides. You may really love the apple ecosystem, and I can understand why. That being said, Google's ecosystem is thriving as well and integration is easy to achieve with minimal effort. iMessage, iCloud, keychain, etc all exist on android as both native features with third party options. With security being such a "concern" here, maybe you shouldn't keep all your apples on a single basket, no matter what OS you choose.

-2 millimeter ocd with a hole punch? "Android clown show"? "Cheap tech and Medicare" ....are we serious?

I get that coming here to ask for advice on a purchase was probably ill conceived, but jeez....

Once again, you’re missing my point. I never said the notch didn’t bother me—I just said it doesn’t skew the status bar the way the punch hole does. Of course the punch hole is more aesthetically pleasing. I’m not denying that. I’m just saying that I don’t like how it makes the status bar asymmetrical.
No.... I got your point...we all got your point. You have negative things to say about Android phones...but nothing negative to say about iPhones.
Then be real....2 MM hole versus that huge notch and which one skewers the notification bar LOL

My guess......I could be wrong here...but most likely not....you never say how much the notch bothers you in the iphone section :)

Lmao. Maybe because the notch doesn’t bother me. The punch hole wouldn’t bother me either if it didn’t make the status bar asymmetrical. I constantly criticize Apple, as I’ve told you numerous times. All you need to do is look at my posting history and consider why I’m even in this section.

At one time I thought these notches would bother me. In reality, they don't. My sadness is watching all these devices move away from having the headphone jack. I also still love fingerprint readers. I use my fingerprint reader on my G8 but I've found its face unlock to be quite advanced compared to the V30+ I had. My only gripe on the notch with Apple is why can't they allow the battery icon be replaced by a percentage? That would be perfect.

That is one of my biggest gripes with Apple going from the iphone 8 to the X. They got rid of the bezels(i didn't mind the bezels) and replaced them with the notch and did away with some of the information in the status bar including the battery percentage.

Why wouldn't it be?

One of the main reasons why the iPhone has managed to survive the numerous criticisms levelled at it is because the critics were operating in a pre-iphone world (where the buyer isn't the user) and did not realise how the iPhone completely rewrote the rules of the game by making the buyer and the user the one and the same.

Business buyers are rational in the sense that they need to justify any purchase (usually to their superior) by balancing features against price. They don't care about the user experience, for the simple reason that they are (often) not the end user of the products they are procuring.

Conversely, as an individual consumer, I am free to decide what constitutes a great user experience for myself, and vote accordingly with my wallet, without having to justify my decision to anyone else but myself. You can think that my rationale for picking an iPhone (or any other device) is absolute crap and so long as it works for me, that's good enough.

I mean, is there even such as a thing as an objective opinion, given how for any one user, some features are going to matter more (and less) than others, and not everyone necessarily values the same feature equally?

I agree, although I wouldn't necessarily say the iPhone or any phone rewrote the game by becoming the first product that a buyer also served as the end user.

My statement, quoted above, served as a jumping off point for the rest of my statement. Innately, everyone's phone of choice results from and also creates an internal bias. Nonetheless, they shouldn't percent rational debate with an attempt at objectivity; which is a far cry from what this thread turned into.

Oh no. Another Apple vs Samsung thread.
I'll keep out of this one and continue to enjoy the handset that I feel works best for me.....

It gets more than 2 years of software support.

And the android users retort will be something like...by software support you mean hidden features like slowing down the phones CPU without telling users and when caught saying it’s to preserve battery?

That’s why threads like this are dumb. Both sides can twist whatever argument to support their side. Both are good OSes. It’s a preference thing.

I think it goes to show that iOS and android users are largely self-selecting at this point. We use the respective platforms we do because that’s what works for us, and we don’t really miss what the other side offers.

It's really fun when you own and enjoy both. I used to be against Apple, I was pro-Android. Then Apple came out with the 5c. It. Was. So. Pretty! Needless to say, I've been in both ecosystems since.

I've also had a few Windows phones and a few BlackBerry's.

It's nice to explore. You learn about their strengths and weaknesses. It's a nice place to be for a person who loves technology.

That is really good stuff! I came to mobile phones from the pro Apple fandom space.
Have had some similar experiences as you. Lots of Blackberries from work a few Windows phones. Every iPhone ever released. Tons of Android phones!

It really is nice to have both IOS and Android. Both have great things about them :)

When you lose all of your hearing feel free to come back and tell me how you get along perfectly with just one device. Just one example; is Android fully compatible with a complete bilateral cochlear Nucleus implant system (MFT)? How about devices for other needs for the deaf community?

With last year’s update they can now stream without the adapter for the more complete integration previously only available on iPhones.

(This was before the Note 10 line was released, obviously they’re now included as all subsequent models, ie the S20 line, will be):

Only if you want a gimped OS that's more like an iPod with calling capability. If you want more of a computer replacement Android > iPadOS > iOS.
You can say iPadOS is a better "computer replacement" than iOS
You can say ChromeOS is a better "computer replacement" than iOS

There is no realistic ground to say that Android is a better "computer replacement" than anything. No one thinks of it that way. Heck, its own developer has abandoned Android on the tablet form factor. Android as a tablet OS has been deader than Disco for about 4 years now.

And still, phone android on a tablet, is still more of a computer replacement that current iPad OS is... go figure....

iOS in general is what makes the iPhone stand out compared to other phones. The subtle animations, the awesome hardware/software integration (especially in the 11 Pro camera app), and the stability are what do it for me.

Uh.... you obviously haven’t looked at iPadOS at all. It beats Android in almost everything.

So much so that Google has abandoned it for ChromeOS.

Google has basically told us not to use Android as a computer replacement. I suggest you take the message to heart.

iPad is just wiping the floor with Android tablets at this point.

Why though?
They both have screens - The both have touch interface

But only one of them runs iPadOS

But then you can't use an iPad as a computer replacement either...so there you have it. Despite what Apple would have you belive.....my MBP can do things my iPad can only dream about in its sleep. iPad is NOT a computer replacement...not close. But I will agree Apple makes better tablets than anything I have found out there.
