Pro whitewater kayaker here. Just switched from a garmin Fenix to an Apple Watch ultra. Took a while to figure out but after getting WorkOutDoors and Athlytic, the ultra has been amazing! Couple questions I have about WorkOutDoors though:

Is there a way to have the screen always on? As of right now it turns on and off every two seconds because it thinks every paddle stroke is me raising my wrist. I’m actually worried this drains even more battery, but maybe not. It also turns on just after it’s out of view during my normal paddle stroke, which is a little annoying.

Is there a way to show elevation drop reference the start point? I just want to see how far I’ve dropped from the start of the river. Otherwise going up and down waves thinks I’m climbing and descending constantly which makes for weird elevation numbers. That and maybe it going underwater a fair amount could throw off the air pressure? Just guessing.

And last thing is about uploading to strava. I use the paddling activity but when loading it to strava it automatically loads it as stand up paddle boarding. Is there a way to change that?

Thanks
Tad
The next version of the app will support the always on display.

You can configure a screen to show the "Relative Altitude", which will be the drop since the start of the workout.

Apple's paddling workout is for several types of paddling. By default the app uses SUP when uploading to Strava, because that seems the most common paddling workout type, so you will need to change it in Strava.

You cannot configure what is sent at the moment but I plan to allow it in the future, probably when I allow custom activity types to be created.

I hope that helps. Glad you like the app!

Will you be posting about the public beta here, and how does one go about getting on it? Will there be a limited number of slots?
I have just released the beta to all 250 of the testers who kindly tested the last version. If you want to try it out then please email me at info@workoutdoors.net.

If get overwhelmed by feedback (which is possible) then I will stop adding testers, but hopefully that won't happen!

Is it just the Watch app that has changed?

I should probably mention that there are issues when using the beta (and the release version) with watchOS 10. I haven't looked into them yet because I tend to ignore watchOS betas until the 4th or 5th beta. I have wasted too much time in the past investigating bugs that Apple fix in later betas.

There are a few changes in the iPhone app as well. For example there are new settings screens for "Screen" and "Start Options". Also I have added a Tip Jar (which doesn't do anything in the beta).
This start options is similar to stock app? So I can start workout with action button after satellites are fixed?

With watchOS 10 I cant pause or stop workout on screen.

Yes, you can configure if the big green start button appears when you tap the activity menu option, or when you use the action button.

When the green start button is shown then you can wait for a GPS lock and a heart rate lock before pressing the action button again (or tapping the green start button) to start the workout.

Great work 👍 👍.
But currently it's not working on watchOS 10 beta. So I need to wait for some later betas.

That's fair enough. As I say I haven't looked at watchOS 10 yet. I will see if I can reproduce that issue.

Menu appear after long press, but then no button react. I press it but nothing happend.
I believe this can be worked around using the following workflow

- press button (nothing happens)
- switch to another app
- switch back to WOD
- the menu will now appear

This appears to be a watchOS10 bug, not a WOD bug.

Honestly pretty cool to see a tip jar. With many apps moving to hostile subscriptions, it’s kind of amazing that I’m still using WOD (IMO the best watch app of them all) for the same $5 I paid in something like 2015. Will be happy to support.

AOD is amazing and exactly what I was looking for re: swimming. Excellent work as always.

Thanks for releasing the 5.0 beta with support for AOD. Seems like I have a problem with AOD on my Apple Watch Ultra v9.3.1. When in a workout (running) and the AOD is activated the information switches constantly. It seems like it remembers the statistics from the the AOD went active. The statistics are updated once I raise my wrist.

I've sent an email too. I have some good opportunities to do long runs to test this soon.

That is very strange. I haven't heard of that before. Please try rebooting the watch and trying again.

I'm sorry if this has been asked/answered before, but I am unable to find out how to clear all workout data from WOD en masse vs. one at a time.
thx!

Not much is going wrong with WOD 5.0, but A quick piece of BETA feedback. The new Start Options screen in Settings.
I have attached a picture. There is a description of each option, but it gets cut off long before I can understand it.

Regardless, can I understand what these options do?
