New user, and love the app with one major issue that I can’t seem to remedy.

I have notifications set to alert me every 1K while running. I chose for it not to appear on the screen and only by voice. I actually wouldn’t mind if it would appear on the screen, but what is happening to me is when the notification comes, it takes the app off the map screen and onto a notification screen. I try to clear it but can’t find out how other than clicking notification at the top, but then it reappears about 5 seconds later and for the rest of the run whenever I check my watch it’s the notification screen and not the map.

Is there anyway to keep the notification but not have it continually go back to a notification screen?

Im using the newest and fully updated AWU.

Thanks!
That is strange. Have you ever configured any shortcuts in Settings / Commands / Shortcuts? People sometimes configure a gesture (often the shake gesture) to do something like display the notification settings screen.

If that doesn't explain it then please email a screenshot of what you are seeing to info@workoutdoors.net

Hey CFC,
I'm really enjoying the app! It's the first time I've paid for an app, and I think it's totally worth it. Thanks a lot for creating it. Just a quick question: are you planning to add an option for triathlons in the future? I'm getting into them and have my first one next year. It would be awesome to track it.

Once again Amazing App.

Multi-activity sports are on my list of features to add, but are surprisingly rarely requested, and are therefore not high on the list. When I first wrote the app over 6 years ago I was expecting them to be one of the most requested features, but strangely they haven't been. Sorry about that.

A question about indoor running and calibration. Distance and pace is currently wildly off for me.
Apple suggests that one should calibrate this by doing a 20 min outdoor run. Does this have to be done with the built-in Workout app? The runs I have done in WOD do not appear to initiate any calibration.

I haven't seen a definitive answer for this question so I always recommend calibrating using Apple's app.

When the distances are as wildly off then it can mean that you have done something strange to confuse watchOS. Have you maybe done a different activity (in any app) and told the watch that it was a running activity? I have heard of people doing skateboarding or cross country skiing but have told the watch they were running. This has then made the watch think they have the wrong running stride length, which has affected the distance estimates.

For what it is worth the watch estimate of indoor running distance is horrendous in my opinion, calibrated or not. Much better to use external sensor.

Thanks. I will do a run with Apple's app and see if it helps. Could be it's as good as it gets.

Treadmill running with Apple Watch is big pain. It's impossible to calibrate AWU sensor. I recently bought Runn NPE treadmill sensor, its very good solution and after calibration it's very accurate with Garmin Fenix 5. But when I try combination with Apple Watch Ultra and Workoutdors I am getting 50 percent of what I need. Your app shows me very accurate CURRENT SPEED - it's connected to my RUNN NPE sensor. But the problem is that average speed is calculated from the Apple Watch sensor (I am right?), not from the connected RUNN sensor, so total distance is also wrong because it's calculated from the average speed, I am right? Why it's not calculated from the connected sensor? Or how to do it that TOTAL DISTANCE and AVERAGE SPEED is calculated from the external sensor and not from the sensor in Apple Watch? And pls, can you try to add manual calibrating of the distance when I finish the treadmill run?:))

One example from yesterday treadmill run - I setup 8kmh speed on my treadmill - I connect external RUNN sensor with WOD - during whole run your app shows me CURENT speed max 7,9-8,0 kmh which is ok for me, but Average speed based on WOD was 8,3-8,4kmh and total distance was not also not correct.

I have the Runn too and all the distance/speed data it uses is from the Runn, and not my watch. I’ve never really had any issues, though haven’t used it for a few months now.

With Apple Watch? Or Garmin? With Workoutdoors app?

Apple watch with Workoutdoors.
So that's weird and I really don't know what is causing my differences in CURRENT SPEED and AVERAGE SPEED and total distance. And you only connect the sensor to WOD or do you use also heartbeatz app on the watch?

And may I ask you to send me screenshot from your WOD app of sensor connection? Maybe my setup is wrong.

Thank you very much

The Runn sensor seems to have been around a while but I had never heard of it until recently. However a few people have mentioned it in the last few weeks. Has it had some sort of upgrade?

Please could you send me the wkt file for that workout (info@workoutdoors.net) and I will take a look. To do this tap the Export button 3 times quickly.

I just sent you that wkt file. This is link to that sensor - https://npe.fit/products/runn?variant=40632671535213
Thanks for that. It seems that you waited a few minutes between connecting to the sensors and starting the workout. The app successfully connects but then you don’t start for a few minutes. In that time it looks like the Runn sensor has disconnected, so when you start the app has used the Apple Watch values instead.

I have never seen that before so I assume the Runn sensor has some sort of short timeout that is confusing the app.

So hopefully if you start pretty soon after trying to connect then it should work in the future.

Ok Sir, thank you very much for your quick check of the situation, I will try today new run and let you know if it works.

Best regards

And please, can you check another wkt file that I just sent you? Its from older treadmill run, this time connected with Garmin HRM Run heart rate chest strap, but when I start the run it showed same message in the log - STARTING with missing sensor........

Thanks. Actually I think that log message is incorrect as I am seeing it in my workouts too. I will fix it in the next version.

I still suspect the delay before starting the workout is what caused issues for the Runn sensor, so hopefully not waiting for a few minutes will help. If it doesn't then I will investigate when I next look into that part of the app and plan to deal with new sensors. That won't be for a while though as I am hoping to properly start working on navigation soon.

Having trouble getting workoutdoors to export workouts to training peaks. What are the steps? I can export the workout file and import, but there must be an automated way.

Apart from Strava the app leaves automatic uploading to such systems to third party apps like HealthFit and RunGap. These apps automatically upload from Apple’s Health system. HealthFit also provides advanced workout analysis features as well.

HealthFit: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/healthfit/id1202650514?mt=8
RunGap: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/rungap-workout-data-manager/id534460198?mt=8

To be honest I probably would have added uploading to Garmin Connect and Training Peaks to the app by now, but Garmin don’t have an official public mechanism for apps to upload workouts (presumably as they don’t want to encourage people to use other watches) and TP closed their workout upload system for new apps a while back whilst they rewrite it.

There is a chance that TP may allow WOD to use their existing upload mechanism if I asked nicely, but there doesn’t seem much point if that mechanism could be out of date at any time.

Ok, so at the moment to get the workouts into training peaks I either upload the fit file manually or purchase one of those apps?

It’s surprising, as the watch is uploading runs automatically if I use the Apple Watch native exercise app. And if I use WorkOutDoors the workouts show up in Apple fitness but not training peaks.

The Training Peaks iPhone app will automatically upload workouts created by Apple's native workout app, but not by third party app like WorkOutDoors. They specifically mention it here:

It could be that they don't want to support other apps because if there are problems then they would have to investigate those apps. I can understand not wanting to do that because it is the same reason that WorkOutDoors doesn't allow the importing of workouts created by other apps.

So, yes, you need to upload to Training Peaks manually or buy a third party app.

Hi, based on what you told me i start the treadmill run immediately after I connect the sensor to WOD, but it looks that I still have the same problem - average speed is much lower than current speed, so it looks that there's some problem with connection between Runn and WOD or my apple watch ultra. I sent you that wpk file, can you pls check it? Thank you very much Jan

The log looks similar to before. The app is using the Run sensor for speeds but not for distance. I assume that Runn is doing something different to other sensors such as Stryd and the app is not handling it.

I will investigate when I next look at sensors but that won’t be for many months. It requires a treadmill so will mean a lot of work interacting with someone who has a treadmill. I will add it to my list of sensors that have become of interest since the sensor functionality was added last year.

Sorry about that.
