Latest BETA, Now Playing no longer works.

I don't know if anyone has reported this, but the Now Playing button no longer functions. Pressing it just leaves you where you currently are. This is a problem for me as a Command (I have this set for quadruple press) and also in the long press menu.

I have tried this on multiple exercise types and also after a reboot of my Apple Watch.
Am I the only one having this problem?

No-one else has reported that and I can't reproduce it. Nothing has changed in that area of the code that I can think of. The beta only has a few minor bug-fixes. Does the Now Playing screen work in other apps?

As rebooting hasn't worked then the next thing to try would be to reinstall the watch app (not the iPhone app). The best way to do this is to uninstall the watch app; reboot both devices; then reinstall the watch app.

After reinstalling you will then need to send the data from the iPhone app to the watch app. This can be done by going to the Settings tab and tapping File Management and then "Send Yesterday’s Watch Settings", "Send Screens to Watch” and “Send Interval Schedules to Watch”. If you want then you can also send routes or workouts individually. They can’t all be sent at once because they are too large.

The Now Playing thing might be related to an iOS bug I get every so often where my iPhone no longer recognises songs being played in Spotify or Apple Music. The apps work and music plays but lock screen controls and the dynamic island show nothing. This may be a system level bug.

Well, the short response here is: Please disregard. While stopping/restarting my Apple Watch did not address this problem, for some reason when I also did a stop/start of my iPhone this problem has gone away.

Looks like a double reboot was the answer here. Thanks for responding.

Sorry, there is a known crash with the beta which I will fix soon. Sorry about that.

I now have the solution to my treadmill problem and it's called GymKit. Using GymKit as a protocol, you can pair the Apple Watch with a treadmill. As soon as you start the treadmill, the Apple running app starts.

Hi, sorry to hijack this topic - would you mind sharing which treadmill you have? And, are you happy with it? (Just looking into gymkit supporting treadmills… but for whatever reason, it’s quite difficult to find this kind of information in the specs in shops…) Thanks!

Ian,
Couple questions and a feature request(s).
1. Its probably an AW thing, but it seems to take 30 seconds to get a good hear trate lock. My routine is to get to the sport select screen and wait until the heart rate shows up and looks normal. If I start the activity before that, the heart rate will jump to like 175 for a minute before normalizing. This used to be a problem on Garmins way back in the day, so not sure if it is app issue or an AW issue. Now that it is getting cold, the 30 seconds is an issue!
2. Is there a way to get back to the splits screen from the "Upload to Strava" screen after a workout? I hit either "Done" button available and both take me back to the sports select screen. Would love to go back and review the splits after. (this is on the watch).

Request(s) for routes and navigation. Besides the ones that are already in the queue I am sure (distance the the next waypoint, accent/decent done and still left on route), I would love if there was a way to add an additional screen to the activity if you are following a route. This data screen would not be present if you are not following a route, but would if you are. That way we can have a screen full of data that is route related. Garmin (over)does this, but I think with the flexibility of WOD, this could be ideal. Not sure if that was planned or not. Cheers!

Unfortunately the time taken to get an HR lock does get worse in colder weather. As you guess it is generally a sensor issue. Some people find that the watch gets a better lock when on their other wrist (due to blood vessels in a different position maybe?), so you may want to try that.

You can review any past workouts (including the latest one) by going to the workout history in the watch app. This is available at the bottom of the main menu and also if you do a long touch on that menu. If you tap on any workout in the history then it shows you the same summary screen that you saw at the end of that workout. So you can see the summary details or tap the Pace button for pace splits, Heart button for heart splits, Map button for various maps etc.

An additional screen when using a route is indeed what I am planning. Probably in a similar way to how the app shows the configurable screen for an interval when using a schedule. I haven't decided on the details yet, but that is my current thinking.

Same issue for me after a 4hour trail run 😌
Sorry about that. I have released a new beta which I hope fixes the crash.

The crash is so rare that I couldn't reproduce it myself. However I found and fixed a bug that was introduced in the beta and was in the area of my code reported by the crash logs that I get sent by Apple. So it is not a guaranteed fix, but I am optimistic. If necessary I will just roll back that change (which was minor) but hopefully this will fix it.

On Tuesday I started a run and almost immediately noticed that the Maps screen was shown instead of my normal running screen. The Maps screen was in full screen mode, unlike the configured Maps screen for running that shows the stats in a horizontal and vertical bar. I was not able to switch to another screen, despite single, double and triple taps and long presses on the Maps screen. I briefly thought to restart the app, but when I noticed the start of the breadcrumb trail on the map I knew that the app was recording my run. So I left it alone. However, at the end of my interval the watch did not warn me but kept silent. Upon closer inspection, I finally was able to return to the menu and then noticed that there was *NO* active workout anymore! I quickly restarted WOD and the rest of the run was fine. Afterwards, that missing 1st part did not show up in the Watch app nor on the iPhone.

Could this be the same bug? Using latest beta of the app with the latest non-beta iOS/WatchOS versions.

It sounds like you may have accidentally used Map-Only mode instead of starting a workout. That is the only reason I can think of for no workout being stored for the first part of your run.

So I came across voice in the settings. I assumed this worked the same way as my Garmin in that it announces every split over my headphones?

I set it to iPhone as that’s my main music device when running and headphones connected to phone. 1KM showed the split but nothing through headphones? Did I do something wrong?

By default most voice alerts are off so you need to specifically enable the ones that you want to hear. To do this go to Settings / Alerts and then Distance for the 1km alert. Then enable the Voice option. You can also configure what other metrics you want to hear along with the distance.

First I want to congratulate for this great App, just as a suggestion to make it perfect would be to receive information on the tracking of a route ... for example indicate that 200 meters to turn right, with that for me would be perfect and the watch would not have to envy anything to others.

On the other hand I am Ultratrail runner, run 100K with the watch and the application without problems!!!! (only by my mistake I put pause 2 Km..., although I never put pause when I run as I like to measure the total time and with Strava then I see the actual exercise time).

For those who ask how I was able to run with the Apple Ultra 1 for 16 hours, I just made the following settings: I have sport mode set up on my phone where I can only receive message notifications from my wife, parents, siblings and coach. The watch screen is set to low enough brightness to allow me to see clearly. The rest I use in normal mode so it gives me all distance, altimetry and pulse measurements. Only one trick I did at Km75 I had a break to change clothes (I was totally wet for several hours ....) so I took the opportunity to charge the watch for about 15 minutes .... without pausing, it just didn't measure my pulse.

Thanks for the power saving suggestions. It's great to see the app being used for such an epic run!

Turn by turn navigation using directions in GPX route files is in my plans for the next version.

Hi - Thank you SO much for this awesome app. I'm sure I bore everyone by telling them about it at every opportunity, but nevertheless hope they're all downloading it!

Just started using the app for 'Pool Swim' and have a couple of queries. On Screen 1, I have the distance in metres as the second listed metric, but this is always prefixed by a > sign. Why is this?

Also, my third metric on Screen 1 is the lap/length counter. This is always slow to update at the end of a series of laps/lengths, and today I actually saved the workout before it had caught up and so was recorded short by a single length. Why is there this slight delay in updating the counter?

Otherwise, it's brilliant!

I've had a problem with WOD for weeks and today it annoyed me so much that I'm going to do my next run with the Apple Sport app.

I have a bug where WOD changes the screens itself during a run.

I have a standard screen for runs with values and others that I am currently only looking at.

Today it was really bad. When I turned my arm on the way, other screens were displayed. But not always the same one. Twice I even had the settings displayed. Once the settings main menu and once even the heart rate zones.

So far I had the assumption that now with more clothing I somehow get to the AWU and therefore a screen change takes place.

However, I can rule that out. During my run today, I turned my arm, saw my standard screen and suddenly WOD jumped to another screen.

What is this bug? It's totally annoying.

Glad you like the app! The reason for the ">" sign is because watchOS only informs the app of distance changes after each length, so you could have almost finished another length but the app will still be showing ">25m" because it knows that you have done at least that, but have probably done more.

In practice watchOS can take a long time (sometimes several minutes) to inform the app of each length and the resulting change in distance, which is why you lost the last lap today. I recommend waiting a minute or two before ending a workout to give watchOS a chance to catch up. Unfortunately I have never worked out a way around this. Sorry about that.

Have you maybe configured the crown to change screens? Someone sent me a workout log today where I could see that screens were changing as a result of them both swiping and also rotating the crown.

People tend to only use one method of changing screens so I suspect they had forgotten that they had configured the crown to change screens. However they didn't mention that the screen was changing accidentally, so maybe they do use both methods to change screens. But it makes me wonder if you have done something similar, which would explain why turning your arm may rotate the crown (due to the clothes) and therefore change the screen.

If that doesn't explain it then please could you send the wkt file for that workout to info@workoutdoors.net and I will take a look. To do this tap the Export button 3 times quickly.

I had the same a couple month ago but I changed the settings ( double tap instead of swipe) and now It works with the initial settings.
And Ian, after trying the new beta yesterday no more crash ! Thanks !😊
