I'm sorry for my english but it's not my natural language. A couple of days ago I have updated my iPhone to iOS 13.1 and my watch to WatchOS 6 (and WorkOutDoors to new version, of course).

Now when my usually cycle training ended gps localization remain on in the iPhone and I notice a fast battery drain. I have found a workaround turning off localization services and turning on again but I think it's not a normal behavior.

Apart from that new app is great, thanks for your work.

I haven't seen that but unfortunately it is out of the control of the app. It could be an OS issue. Both iOS 13 and watchOS 6 seem to be very battery hungry, but that is often the case with the early versions of a major upgrade.

Glad you still like the app!

Thanks for you replay, I hope for a new iOS/watchOS update, but if localization service still remain on after the app is closed I think that battery drain is a normal beavhior.

Please forgive me if this question has been asked and answered. Can you create interval workouts with the workoutdoors app?
Thanks.

Is there new version in the pipeline?

Yes, hopefully to be released in a few weeks time. I have added support for the compass, as well as a few minor improvements, several bug fixes and changes for iOS 13 / watchOS 6.

I am waiting for iOS 13 and watchOS 6 to stabilise a bit (I can't believe that iOS 13 is on its 4th version already after just 12 days!). This will also give a bit of time for more bugs to be found and fixed. Then it will need beta testing for a week or two.

If we are making future feature requests, here is one that has become more relevant to me lately...I am currently rehabbing some plantar faciitis and have been doing more rowing vs running of late. I see a couple of apps in the store (Rowing Coach and PowerRow) do some form of stroke detection and as such can provide some form of distance measure to indoor row workouts. Other than that, neither apps is particularly great, and I would love that feature in WOD. Is this something that could be done? Thanks!

WorkOutDoors used to use the pedometer to do stroke counting for the Rowing workouts, which seemed to count strokes as well as it did steps. However over the last few months a few people reported that it was no longer working properly, so I took it out of the latest version.

It was almost as if watchOS was deciding not to make the pedometer work during rowing workouts. I will have another look to see if that is still the case with watchOS 6. However it is still being used to count strokes for Paddling workouts, so it may be worth trying that.

When calculating calorie burn for cycling, do you make use of elevation/pace or any other dynamic input, or just age, weight and HR? I would prefiere the later, as I often use an electric bike, with different assistance levels. I have used own AW workout app, and it seems for them it is the case, no use of any other input (therefore not biasing estimates by assuming I did the “effort” performed by the motor).

If not, is it possible to have a configuration mode enabling this (as cyclemeter does?)

Thanks

I use Apple's calorie estimates because I figure they will know better than me. I may allow some sort of customisation in the future but it is not in my short term plans. Sorry.

No, great, as I think they are doing it ok (at least currently it seems ok to me)!

Thanks for the info on the stroke counting!
An interesting issue/bug that I am seeing may well be too niche to address but I think I've got it identified now. I have been biking to work and using WOD to track bike rides. My commute goes bike>train> bike and I have been pausing WOD when I get to the train so that it only logs one workout per morning and another per night, rather than two each way. In WOD, everything reports and displays correctly, but when I do this, the heart rate chart doesnt transfer to Apple Activities. It shows a message that indicates not enough measurements were taken. If I record each ride leg as an individual workout, everything transfers as expected. It seems like apple gets confused by the big pause for the train ride. Again, more interesting than anything and probably a very niche issue, but it appears to be pretty consistent behavior.

I can never seem to get a cadence reading (running) in WOD, it is ok in the native app, am I doing something wrong?

If you do not see steps or cadence details then run the Settings app on the iPhone and select Privacy then Motion & Fitness, then make sure Fitness Tracking is enabled and so is WorkOutDoors. Then go to the Watch app on the iPhone and select Privacy and ensure that Fitness Tracking is enabled there. Hope that helps.

Tried to use the standard Workout app this morning to test the heart rate graph thing and realized for apparently the first time that the Workout app doesn't auto-pause cycling workouts. Seriously? Again, WOD reigns supreme in the crowded field of workout apps.

I can also confirm with this mornings test that Apple Workouts doesn't handle the "train pause" any better than WOD as far as reporting the heart rate chart. Gives the same "unavailable" report. So it appears to be a bug on Apple's end for sure.

I think it is subjective whether or not a manual lap should then be used as a base for the next auto-lap or whether it should just result in splitting the current lap. You are right though - I should probably add an option to allow the user the choose (I like options!) but if I do it for the next release then it will default to the current way of working. This is because I do not want to break anything so late in the testing process: if there is an issue (and hopefully there will not be) then I only want it to affect users who change the setting.

I'm a new Apple Watch user and have really enjoyed using WOD for running so far. As a previous Garmin user, I too think it would be great to have the option to choose whether a manual lap should be used as the base for the next auto-lap. Without this functionality, it is difficult to use both manual and auto laps during the same activity.

Can you still share tcx file from WOD to RunGap? I can’t. It doesn’t show on suggestions menu either. I’m sure I exported with WOD version 4/iOS 13 so I think some iOS 13.1.1 or .2 update broke this. I’m on 13.1.2 and WOD is version 4.09.
Those who have RunGap installed, is export still working for you?
