Apple only calculate VO2 max for running and walking workouts, so your HIIT workout would not have counted. Sorry about that. Glad you like the app though!
Got it!, I thought that defining intervals under the RUNNING profile (instead of the HIIT profile) would fix that.
I will start doing free workouts from WorkOutDoors then.
Thank you very much for your quick response and help.

If you were using the running activity type then watchOS should treat it as a running workout. However Apple require you to keep a constantly high effort for at least 20 minutes, which might not be the case with a HIIT workout which would probably involve resting too frequently.

Also Apple are often inconsistent in terms of calculating VO2 max (with all apps), so it could just be as a result of that.

I would be really happy to have pace and distance from Stryd first (with an option to enter a calibration factor) if this helps and all the power stuff like zones and trainings later.
For me too, first I d like pace and distance to have the precision of stryd. After power metrics to have whole data.
Thanks for your work !👍

Hello,

So. I have been playing with the app in forests and small mountains! It's great!
Wished some of the maps were more accurate! But that is another topic! ;)

Not sure if I have missed it anywhere, but I was wondering if there was an option of adding a POI (Point of Interest) While Hiking? From Within the app!? Or eventually importing POI from other apps, i.e. Gaia gps, caltopo etc.

Many thanks for your great work!

Best wishes!

Thanks for buying the app. Glad that you like it! The maps come from OpenStreetMap, which is crowd sourced, so if you find any inaccuracies then you can always fix them yourself at www.openstreetmap.org. It is usually very accurate but no maps are perfect.

The app does not provide a way to create a POI yet but it will at some point in the future. In the meantime you can export a GPX file with waypoints for the start of each new interval, so if you start a new interval when you want to store a waypoint then that will work.

Also, if there are any waypoints in GPX route files that you load, then those will be displayed as icons on top of the map when you select that route.

Yes, it is easier for the sensor to get a lock when you are stationary. This is another reason why I wish Apple would let the app use the heart rate sensor outside of a workout. The app could then show the HR metric on the main menu and you could wait for an HR lock in the same way as you can wait for a GPS lock.

They allow some apps to do this but I have asked repeatedly and never got a response. It would be great to be able to wait for both a GPS and HR lock before starting a workout, especially because it is easier to get both when the user is stationary than when they are moving.
Using the stock AW Workout app, I have it set to Auto Pause. I start a workout, stand still – it pauses straightaway, then I wait for the heart rate to lock on. Once locked, I start running and it unpauses straightaway as you start running.

WorkOutDoors can use the watchOS auto pause for running, so in theory the same procedure should be possible. I would be interested to hear if anyone who is having HR problems finds that this works for them with the app.

That’s how I use WorkOutDoors. Have found that HR acquisition can take time especially when it’s cold. I have recently started switching to the stock HR app once WorkOutDoors auto pauses. Once HR is being measured I switch back. Not sure if this helps but it gives me the impression I’m doing something! 😁

Great app - keep up the good work. Really looking forward to the Stryd integration as hoping to buy one.

Yeah I’ve just bought a stryd and I’m looking forward to integration. I wonder how we’ll get the power data into the stryd ecosystem though as WorkOutDoors won’t export to garmin or stryd.

My focus at the moment is on getting the power data from Stryd into the app and then exporting it from there in GPX and TCX files. I think that Stryd's PowerCenter can import TCX files but I must admit that I haven't tried that yet. I plan to look into that side of things after I have got the sensor connection and power analysis working.

Tcx import in Stryd Powercenter works flawlessly. It is a manual process though.

Yes, but would not recommend that. Importing from Stryd footpod would lose all typical data like HR, laps, etc. obviously. And also I heard that triggering this process can lead to a multitude of duplicates in Stryd power center.

I am using TCX import with TCX created by iSmoothrun and they look good, never had an issue. Also, I have imported FITs from Rungap that were imported from iSmoothrun as TCX.

That makes sense. Please could you send me an example TCX file to info@workoutdoors.net and I will make sure that WorkOutDoors saves the power data in the same format. Thanks.

Is it possible that enabling auto pause (when it was not enabled before) would cause such bad squiggling? It was the only thing that I changed about any aspect of this or apple’s workout programs. This just started happening last week after I turned on auto pause.

Yesterday I used apple’s native app and turned auto pause OFF and it seemed a little bit better, but I can’t be sure if some of it doesn’t have to do with their aesthetic smoothing. series 6 GPS only, up to date.

Auto-pause shouldn't affect the GPS at all because they are separate systems. If you go to the Steps tab and change "Steps" to "GPS" then it will show the GPS signal strength at each point. It could be that you have had a poor GPS signal recently.

Not a great method unless you put the pod onto your laces just before you run or it mixes up any walking before and after with your run. It needs an app to mark the start and end
I agree. I also have Stryd and tried this and it is a mess. It duplicates workouts from the watch app and includes all your pre and post workout data

Just want to say how impressed I am with WO. Used it for a few weeks now and have logged XC skiing, alpine skiing and mountain biking. Never had an issue. Uploads to Strava flawlessly every time. Got interested in my HR as well now.
looking foreward to try out preloaded GPX tracks when the snow melts and a few more trails are possible to bike again.
This app was the reason alone I bought an AW and not a Garmin. I’m happy to say the combo delivered above expectation

The first version should have access to all the available metrics, but I am just considering whether to add power zones. My first thought is not to, and then include them in a future version along with pace zones. I will see how it goes though.
Hi, if you're looking for a beta tester: I'd be very much interested.
I have been using the WOD app for almost 2 years (very happy about: no other app comes close), but I have tried the Stryd pod for 2-3 weeks, and I do see the added value of being able to combine both (WOD functionality + power info). Would be perfect.

Thanks for the offer. I will need as many Stryd testers as possible so I will definitely take you up on that when the beta is ready. It won't be for a while though as there is still a fair amount of work for me to do integrating the metrics throughout the app.

Is it possible to include / exclude types of workouts to Strava? I would like to auto-sync my running, but not sync my cycling (home-work traveling) or core/power workouts.

At the moment the auto-upload to Strava is not activity-specific. I may allow that in the future though.
