Thanks for the quick reply,

This was exactly what I did in the past and this worked perfectly but since watchOS 8 is this bug introduced according to the Stryd team.

And see your inbox for the mail :)
I noticed this also a couple of weeks ago… do you know if this has been fixed already?

Unfortunately you are right that it can vary from one instance to another. This is why I recommend that anyone having problems with the watch heart sensor should use an external sensor instead. I rarely have to recommend it in Summer, but it is one of the most common complaints during the Winter. Wrist-based optical heart rate sensors are unreliable for some people when it gets colder.
Fully agree. Wrist based sensor can work great but can be terribly incorrect also.
I also don’t like traditional chest straps too much and am happy with an OHR around my arm. Works perfect, I have a Polar OH1.

Ok, I tried it today. It has not been fixed (yet)… see the screenshot, the middle part was where WOD Map Only was on my screen and the Stryd app at the background. So (for the moment at least) don’t use the Stryd app together with WOD when running a route…

Good news is that the Stryd team acknowledged the problem and promised to have a fix soon:

One question I had I never thought of and I am thinking is not possible. It seems like this upcoming update has a lot of sensor support improvements and updates coming. Any chance there will be support for running dynamics metrics that chest straps transmit? like the Garmin HRM PRO or wahoo tickr

As far as I know the running dynamics from both those devices are not available over Bluetooth. They are only sent over ANT+, which the Apple Watch does not support.

I don't think that there is a Bluetooth standard for such data, which may explain it. Stryd send their running dynamics in their own custom Bluetooth profile (along with their power metrics).

I could be wrong though, so if anyone can find any information on how to read the running dynamics metrics from those chest straps via Bluetooth then please let me know.

A guy in the Stryd forum wrote it is fixed in 7.6.2.
I just received a reply from Stryd customer service on this matter: “The issue has proven more complicated than originally believed by development and the issue hasn't been resolved with 7.6.2”… so it seems not te be fixed yet ?

Their last releases had room for improvement.

Hello, This app is so good and seriously makes the apple watch just as good as a Garmin. One question on a feature that Garmin has and wondering about the possibility of something like this on WOD. Is it possible to put something similar to a virtual run profile in the app? Where you could broadcast stats like heart rate, pace, and cadence to an app of your choice like zwift.

Also is it possible to do a indoor run profile where you could also pick the incline you are at so it might compute a total ascent as well?

I don't think either of those suggestions have been requested before. In terms of the virtual run functionality it seems that Gamin implement this by making the watch act like a Bluetooth peripheral, which I don't think is possible with the Apple Watch. As far as I know iOS allows the iPhone to be a "central" (which listens to peripherals) or a peripheral (which broadcasts to other devices), but watchOS only allows the watch to be a central. I could be wrong though.

It may be possible to send it to a Zwift app running on the iPhone, if their app provides an API to do that, but that sounds a lot of work for something rarely requested.

The incline request is interesting. At the moment none of the indoor workouts have the concept of ascent because elevation comes from the barometer, but I guess it could be easily calculated from the include if supplied. I will bear it in mind but it won't be any time soon. Sorry.

I just registered at macrumors only to tell you what an amazing job you have done with workoutdoors.

I downloaded it only yesterday and its by far my favorite app on the watch!

Two things if you would consider:

1) Would it possible to get like a arrow and a meters remaining until the next turn. Like a turn by turn I guess....
2) Theming. While I think changing datafields is already great, I would love it if you could change the overall appearance of the app. For example with a big start button and less data dense like the NCR app. The design in squares is efficient but not very aesthetically pleasing

I plan to add turn by turn in the version after next. It will probably require the use of GPX files that already contain the directions because then I won't have to pay for a server to calculate directions (which wouldn't be possible with the current business model of a one-off payment).

You can get a big start button if you tap the circular icon with dots inside it that is shown next to each activity in the main menu. Then tap Open Workout.

I know that some people do not think the app is very pretty. Sorry about that. I am more of a "function over form" sort of person and don't have much in the way of graphic design abilities. If the app takes off in the future, and after I have added the most requested features, then I may pay someone to help me improve the look.

Glad you like the app!

From my point these are mere suggestions.

I off course have no idea if this is the way you generate your primary income or if this is more like a passion project or a side hustle. I could see this becoming defacto go to app for exercise app on the apple watch and tbh Iwould rather pay a few euro per month for something like this over strava tbh.

I work full-time on the app and don't do anything else.

I don't plan to add a subscription or in-app purchases because I know they deter people. I don't completely rule it out because there may be some great feature in the future that would require on-going costs that would necessitate extra payments, but it certainly isn't in my plans at the moment. And if I ever did add any extra payments then they would only be for such a feature, and would not be necessary to keep using any existing functionality.

I love your approach.

I am not a programmer or designer but if I can help in any way, let me know. Maybe testing or something.

In the meantime I will enjoy the app for what it is: The best tool voor exercise on the apple watch :)

I hope you will soon release a version with Stryd support. The official stryd app on Apple Watch keeps locking up, when paused, so I cannot finish my workout and it is driving me crazy ?

The Bluetooth sensor functionality is pretty much ready for testing but I am still tidying the topographic maps. They are much more detailed and the watch is very restrictive in terms of memory, so I want to avoid the possibility of watchOS killing the app off for using too much memory. I can't test the maps for the whole world by myself so I want to make it as memory efficient as possible before rolling it out to testers.

Apologies for the wait!

Don't apologise. I rather wait and have reliable tool and not end up with the same unreliability the stryd app is experiencing. Also cannot complain about getting new features for free, though I would be willing to pay extra for it.

I also run with the Stryd App (waiting for WOD patiently).
Don’t see this behaviour of the app. Can you describe what happens? Is this locking the screen? If yes: every reboot or update causes this. You have to start the app and force quit it. After that, long press works again.

Thanks for the tip. Yes I did update to watchOS 8.3 the other day and yes long press stops working. But the watch has been rebooted since and I also used the app without problem yesterday. I pause with the buttons when I reach my target, but then the app become unresponsive. Cannot unpause or long-press. Even tried long press through assistive touch, now available for AW4, without any effect, in case of sweaty fingers.

one more question I thought of. Will WOD have export to power center options? I am trying to workout a way to get running power info into the Stryd app because I don’t think Apple natively export power statistics. But the WOD TCX files I believe will.
