I really agree but I’m too deep in this ecosystem. iMessage is a key feature for me... But Android is tempting me... specially Samsung with his galaxy s10

If it's stable and it works then everything else is icing on the cake. Also even though I know google and FB already have enough of my personal data to fake me being alive online even if I'm dead something about NOT using everything google(android) makes me feel like I'm not giving up lol.

Did we watch the same keynote?

  1. Street View in Apple Maps with clickable stores when "virtual walking" a street.
  2. Apps launching 2X faster, App download sizes smaller
  3. swipe typing natively on the keyboard
  4. location services privacy
  5. Sign in with Apple over google/facebook that creates a random e-mail address to register you for a app/service that you can delete later.
  6. more intuitive photo editing, video rotation and filters
  7. live radio listening.
  8. Siri sounding more natural
  9. Airpods reading back messages and going into listening mode if you have them in your ear
  10. Bluetooth sharing.
Your take away was Dark mode? funny because that's the feature I care for the least.
The thing is, the REAL and most actually useful dark mode is still smart invert colours. Sure it have weird cursor or bubbles colour from messages, but at least everything is dark and just work well. Safari pages are dark with 95% of accurate picture rendering, news app is entirely dark (no white pages for reading the news like this beta) etc. Just make a quick accessibility shortcut for apps that didn't support smart invert and you are in. Way more useful than this supposed dark mode when in fact is just smart invert with more refinement and in some apps with the mix of bright white and dark its simply not convenient and useful.

Not sure if serious, but I don’t see how this teeny tiny scenario would be a reason not to provide the feature. Especially since it existed under touchid.

My examples are (intentionally) silly but my point is not. Apple is dead serious about privacy, much more even than when Touch ID was introduced. As I said, perhaps they may let this setting be toggled but there’s no way they’re going to do “off” as a default. And I suspect that they will not allow the toggle. It is not hard to imagine a user browsing porn to have their spouse see that when they accidentally look at the phone and the screen opens to whatever they were doing. They’d be sued for millions.

I think this keynote was the best in years. Great free updates for all of my devices.

I agree about the calling screen thought. I don’t understand why it has to take up the whole screen and interrupt everything you are doing. You should be able to set it to display as an ordinary notification if you want to.

For a second I thought “on, 2015 MacBook Pro? I would love to have that one for an upgrade”, then realise it is a touch bar model. :(
On the flip side, eve with iOS 13, I dare not ditch my MacBook even though my windows PC does most of the heavy lifting for me already.

I talked to this guy about his usage. He’s a “one app at a time” guy. Email, finance, iMessage. One at a time. This was a no brainer for him. No multi-tasking concerns.

Another thing is that developers have to come aboard and support dark mode unless Apple makes it mandatory. I have Dark Mode currently disabled because the Outlook mail app doesn't support it (for obvious reasons). I"ll be looking at dark calendar, dark messages, go over to check mail and BLAM bright white

The funny thing is that the online version of Outlook does support dark mode and I use it daily. Pretty sure it’ll be ready for the iOS 13 debut.

iOS 6 is ancient design language. It’s looks very outdated.

No it doesn't. It was nonsense like that which is why they changed it. It worked. It looks so much better than the crap we have today.

I also loved the pre iOS 7 era design. And with the original iOS design, we didnt need a dark mode because the apps have different colour palette compared to just all white design of today.

iOS 6 style design language today would make us look like android.... the look we have today while it took some tweaking is perfect

I like the updates, but it’s still pretty ridiculous that they can’t offer a better incoming call option than full screen.

This.

The update is insane. All around. But yes, they should have corrected the incoming call option too.

Since Apple has disappointed, let me recap the thrilling changes to Android Q (7 of the top 15 new features compiled by AndroidCentral):
  • Better privacy controls (been on iOS for years)
  • Dark mode (iOS beat Android to the punch )
  • Native screen recording (again came first to iOS)
  • App info page now shows more information (have had this for awhile also)
  • Sharing shortcuts let you easily share content
  • Easy Wi-Fi sharing with QR Codes (also WiFi sharing has been around for over a year)
  • New modes for foldable phones

Don't get too excited! I know how many people have been clamoring for shareable QR codes.

LOL seems like Google is doing some catching up this year with .

Yes that’s what they said last year that they were pushing the new design this year so that iOS 12 would be more for older phones to run smoother.

Apple never said a new design was coming, that was just some random online comment from a nobody that got blown way out of proportion.

So they took 10 years to perfect swipe

We’ve had Swype for years, via the alternative keyboards, just Apple decided to make it native.

I still don’t really know what the major features outside dark mode, Apples own data tracking vs social media/google, and the performance upgrades yet again.

There’s lots of new things, hundreds. They’re just little things that can have a big impact on people, depending on their needs. iPad getting external drive support, mouse support, etc. PS4 & Xbox controller support for iOS and Apple TV, silence unknown callers. There’s tons, just maybe they’re not important to you, but then you alone are not Apple’s only customer.

What do you mean no one has done it better. Um android has. You can place app icons anywhere or by swiping up you get your app drawer in alpha order.

Um i don’t know anyone that actually uses Apple Maps in my family.

  1. Street View in Apple Maps with clickable stores when "virtual walking" a street.( not sure who uses Apple Maps)
  2. Apps launching 2X faster, App download sizes smaller
  3. swipe typing natively on the keyboard (wow way to go, you finally caught up with android after 10 years
  4. location services privacy
  5. Sign in with Apple over google/facebook that creates a random e-mail address to register you for a app/service that you can delete later. (Your still letting Apple store your information)
  6. more intuitive photo editing, video rotation and filters (this was good but unless they put the camera functions right in the app and not having to dive into the settings app then they were lazy to not do this. I mean why can’t we change the video quality within the camera)
  7. live radio listening (iheart radio does this)
  8. Siri sounding more natural
  9. Airpods reading back messages and going into listening mode if you have them in your ear( great a $150 item has some function)
  10. Bluetooth sharing.

In response to your comments on this....

1. Many people use Apple Maps, for me it’s better than Google Maps in my area. Again, you’re not the only person in the world.
3. See above.
4. Not anything more than they hold already in your Apple ID, which you already have. The App won’t get any of that data. Your comment on this is a bit illogical.
6. As they showed at the keynote, it’s right there in the edit section, as you’d expect logically. Video quality is still in settings, as it’s a setting. Again, logical.
7. iHeart Radio is an app, Live listening is native on the music app and can be started with Siri as well, no need to even unlock the device.
9. It’s extra function, and there’s tons of people with them, again you’re not the only person.....

I see you didn’t comment on some of the lost, some cracking new features, that are small, but significant.

The only thing keeping people on iphones is seriously iMessage.
The only reason why I own the iPhone SE is because if its size and respectable features.

Don't care about iMessage or any other software feature.

As soon as an Android manufacturer releases a compact, small, flagship phone I'll jump ship immediately. I greatly doubt Apple will ever make a small phone again.

I haven’t kept up with android as much as I use to, but doesn’t Sony still have the compact series?

Bro, this guy is talking about an OS upgrade. He's not asking Apple to make an electric car with a 15,000 mile range using a AAA battery.

I agree with the op, it's disappointing that Apple didn't redesign the home screen. Android has a better home screen by far.

At least they could have added a app drawer with a toggle like the default S10 launcher or any other launcher from 2010. I am tired of folders on a phone like a XS.
