"The only thing keeping people on iphones is seriously iMessage."

????? lol , I dont even use iMessage , nobody in my area with iPhone does , only Messenger and WhatsApp , i dont get the hype with iMessage
Perhaps it's the other way around for others in other areas?

Wow, after that keynote I am totally let down by Apple for the last time. We were told last year that a refresh was supposed to be for iOS 12 but was pushed to iOS 13 to make room for performance improvements. Now that the keynote is over and the big takeaway is freaking Dark Mode, like that was the most requested item. No homescreen changes, no icon updates. Incoming calls still take up the whole phone as do Facetime calls. No multitasking on the Plus or Max iphones. Like they spent 20 mins are freaking Minecraft? The updated security Im sure is a welcome from the news of breaches. It says you can now sign in with Apple. Apple is just trying to hide the fact they wont be sharing with Google but they will still have access to peoples data. So for people to think they are safe from all tech companies then you must be blind. They finally added swipe to text. Android only has had that since day 1. Faster performance, like seriously, you build one of the fastest chips on the market and you are now only supporting 6s and up. Whos slow? The only thing keeping people on iphones is seriously iMessage. Seriously people know they have better features for the money on other phones like Samsung, Oneplus, etc yet your all now blinded that Apple is the best. Where is Jony Ive? Doesn't he still work at apple?

Well said.
I, like many others (minus the fan boys where Apple does no wrong), was looking forward to some kind of UI refresh also after an underwhelming IOS 12. There is always IOS 14 I guess.....

This always happens, Apple promote a few "big" features..... but then people get their grubby paws on the beta and then there's 100's of "small" changes that blow everyones minds. I'm expecting that to be the case here.

Kind of like what a 12.X release could have been?

Privacy.
Performance.
External drive support.
Spam call handling.

These are things that actually matter to me and surpass design updates by a big margin. Happy with the update.

Most of these could be added in a 12.x release, but ok...

Apple seems to have addressed the vast majority of my needs which includes mouse support, the new Files app, second display, and a version of Safari that will be more useful. They also addressed some things I didn’t even know I wanted like Apple sign in and the HomeKit improvements.

Very happy with this year’s WWDC.

I posted this earlier... and of course, the keynote was already over 2 hours long... if Timmy and the boys had hit on every little items, we'd still be sitting in the keynote...

I’m not disappointed, but I’m not completely satisfied either. I did not get the Springboard redesign that I wanted. But Apple added tons of new features to IOS 13 that I’m not complaining too much.

Heck, if they kept the grid format and just freshen up the fonts and icons I’ll be okay with as well. It just for me personally it is getting stale.

Exactly my thoughts and post on Reddit and got downvoted as hell!
I didn't a single important/competitive nor a creative idea with this new shi** if i may say!

I'm a huge Apple fan and i own all their products, but seriously, this is a scam/rip-off/playing with words and people minds, magnifying whats really REALLY low/little almost nothing!

Really unsure the people who were cheering were really from Earth??
Maybe the majority of people actually look into the iOS 13 new features and other updates and conveniently ignores interfaces changes or they just don’t care about new home screen design as much as you guys do? Coolness won’t help getting the job done. For me, this iOS 13 looks promising, especially for iPad.

Guys, innovation does not need to be visible. Under the hood improvement is always great.

Just small changes to the features. Wish they would redo the design of the OS to be more allow customization. This is the second release in 2 years with a huge MEH

Let’s also remove the critics who claim Apple can do no right and we’re left with an objective bunch of peeps.

The poster quoted was not IMO a “well said” post. To me, it came across as a rant, which is the posters opinion, but not necessarily a cogent, rational opinion.

Bunch of kids here, they don't know anything about old ios-iphone-apple days, and they think ios 13 is great.
Great? i really wonder what u'd say on 2010-2013 days.

It's a total disaster.

if not asked already, when (if possible) will Apple enable radio on the iPhone? last Apple product i had radio reception was an iPod nano. does the iPod touch have it?

iOS has been quite a mature product for some time now; it can be revolutionary but for only so long or after every so often.

It's good that we've reached a point where most changes are power-user additions underneath the surface.

iOS needs to 'just work' so we can reliably use the apps, which is where we spend most of our usage anyways (or should be).

I am super impressed with iOS 13, particularly the iPad version. I'm really not worried about OS customization at all. My priorities are features like:

  • Better multitasking/multi-window use
  • Multiple instances of a single app
  • Full email formatting
  • Thumb drive support
  • Files app improvements
  • Speed improvements
  • Improved photo and video editing
  • Maps improvements
  • Swipe keyboard
  • Console controller support
  • Revamped apps like Notes
  • Automated personal hotspot connections

etc.

To me, iOS 13 is a HUGE release. It is going to make the iPad I already purchased substantially more useful.

That's precisely what iOS 7 was about - a complete ground-up redesign for GUI and for building in so many new features with each subsequent release.

iOS has become far more featured and advanced ever since iOS 7.

It's a matter of numbers. There are always people who are unhappy, no matter the update. Fair enough - maybe it doesn't hit your requirements, no arguing with that. However, how many such people are there?

No business in the world can please all people - isn't that a given? So that there are complaints is to be expected. The question is does it please most people? If it doesn't please enough, then the business fails.

So how does Apple do? Apparently 97% are satisfied according to surveys. That means 3% are not - and I think all of them are posting in this thread :p

Be that as it may, any business would be happy with 97% satisfaction rate - and it is the highest in the world in its class of products. All those who say "Android" - fine, but why isn't Android 98% then? Apparently the great Andriod that's supposed to be so much better according to critics has lower satisfaction rate.

So there will always be that 3% - and I don't begrudge them being unhappy. You can't force people's taste - if it doesn't please you, I can't criticize you. Just be aware, that you are a tiny minority, apparently. Best of luck!

I must not have been on the memo where Apple promised the full on refresh and all the other features you mention.

Yeah, it starts to sink in that we have to wait another full year for any chance of real improvements.
But hey, dark mode is nothing to sneeze at (even though it is 2 years too late) and waiting until September to get airpods in our memojis is awesome!

What does real improvement look like to you?

Same here. Swipe keyboard + optional small moveable keyboard on iPad along with lowered Pencil latency are the icing on the cake for me. Together with all the other stuff you mentioned, this update is going to make me pull the trigger on a iPad Pro.
