I haven't seen any decent screen shots of El Capitan yet. Has anything changed in the UI at all on it?

I believe El Capitan UI is the same, except for the fact Beach Ball Of Doom is now Beach Flat Disk Of Doom and Disk Utility looks less useful. I looked at Yosemite closely and it seems like there's nothing more to flatten, no wonder Jony got promoted.

And... Flavors 2 is dead now. Got this news in an email this morning from them. If you want it for Yosemite until El Capitan releases it'll cost you 5 bucks. I can't see it given it's just a tease that will go away soon.

"Apple introduced a new security policy on OS X El Capitan, preventing every process (even privileged ones) from modifying system files, either on filesystem or dynamically at runtime. Unfortunately, with these security restrictions in place, this is the end of line for Flavours."

My guess is that all manner of changing the look of OS X just went away such as stuff that modifies the Dock, etc. Maybe I am wrong as I don't know how those work but I wouldn't expect anything that modifies the appearance of the UI to work anymore in 10.11 and going forward.

More of the Bad News from Flavours!
"…the last breath of theming on OS X"

"Will there be a complete version?
What about OS X El Capitan?
Apple introduced a new security policy on OS X El Capitan, preventing every process (even privileged ones) from modifying system files, either on filesystem or dynamically at runtime. Unfortunately, with these security restrictions in place, this is the end of line for Flavours.

For years, we have put our love and passion on Mac theming. We initially released UNO - The Unified GUI for 10.4 back in 2006. Flavours development started shortly after 10.5 was released, in 2008. With lots of dedication and personal sacrifice, we took about 5 years to release Flavours Classic (1.x) which supports 10.7, 10.8 and 10.9. On OS X Yosemite (10.10), Apple introduced fundamental UI changes, visible and under the surface, which forced us to restart and redesign Flavours (2) from ground-up. During all this time, we have invested lots of time, resources, love and money on Flavours development; our return was terribly poor, but at least we were paid with love and engagement from the community. Now, with OS El Capitan (10.11) announced for Fall 2015, we decided to halt all further development on Flavours, and release Flavours 2 Lite bundled with a hand picked fine selection of 128 themes for OS X Yosemite.

Thank you for all your support and understanding.
We hope you enjoy Flavours 2 Lite, which is, probably, the last breath of theming on OS X."

(If someone can tell me which of the icons is the symbol for quoting in the new format, I will be glad to use it. - Thanks.)

Thanks, but I think that icon is for multi-quoting from earlier posts. I'm looking for the symbol we used to use on the older site for inserting a quotation from an outside source, like a newswebsite, an email, etc. It would work like "Paste as Quotation" does in email programs.

How much you want to bet that they did that on purpose for the express reason alone of wiping out Flavours? Johnny Ive's ego couldn't take the bruising that some people hate his GUI changes and probably DEMANDED they stop these guys from touching his bleeping masterpiece. Ridiculous? I've heard stranger things with Divas.

Am I wrong? Do you think Apple would work with the Flavours guys to do an official theming preference pane for OSX? I'd bet they wouldn't even answer such a proposal.

I bought and paid for and downloaded the newly released version of Flavours 2 and so badly want it to work on my OSX 10.10.2, but so far it simply doesn't work. I am in touch with their support and hope they can help me make it work, but so far no dice. I will keep those interested posted. Not sure I will ever go to El Crapitain as I would like to retain cDock, YosemiteRevert, etc. etc. as well as Flavours 2 if it will start working.

PS - This is all making me so crazed that, since Y/R finally restored the beautiful blue iTunes icon, I would almost swear that my music plays sweeter again. ;-) LOL

Well, I can't cling to past releases and ignore new versions with important (to me) improvements such as Metal and further improvements to security of the operating system in general.

"All change is loss and all loss must be mourned." - Levison

I can understand how people might interpret this but I cannot imagine anyone at Apple caring whether somebody themed OS X or not really so far as changing the look to suit themselves. However, the change to the operating system has much farther reaching implications for security and is a good move even though it ends stuff like Flavors 2. I say this though in terms of 3rd party stuff while it still worked. As for Apple themselves implementing the means to theme the UI, I doubt we'll ever see that as I am sure many of you do too. I can even understand it actually. They want to present a unified experience across the ecosystem that minimizes learning and maximizes ease of use and productivity. While steps along this path can be criticized to be sure, there's no doubt about that being the long term goal they work toward with each iteration of their software. This has always been the goal since the inception of the graphical user interface.

On a bright note for those who are less than fond of how it looks now it is safe to assume it will change in the future. Nothing stays the same.

Metal does look promising.

I like it, the look to my view is refreshing and has a new twist to it. Nice to have something changed for the better instead of unloading a dud like the new Yosemite has turned out to be for some of the users.

I am sure Choctaw is right. It is only a matter of time.

Choctaw makes a great point.

Yes, the enthusiastic reception for MacRumors' new face demonstrates that those of us harmed and offended by Yosemite are not adverse to change when it is done properly and is an improvement over what it replaces.

And lack contrast...!!!

It's so hard to read these forums nowadays...

So then, my friends, how do you account for the difference in reaction by the same audience? :)

Could it be that the designers of this forum's new interface possibly know more about software design than a designer of the external appearance and composition of hardware cases? :)

I wouldn't perhaps go that far with conclusions. Somewhat different rules apply to web design compared to operating system design.

We live in a world of diverse opinions for sure, some of which have about as much rationality as passing some gas and putting it in a divers helmet. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, based on individual likes and dislikes.

It is hard to create a successful product of any kind, nearly impossible to create one that pleases everybody. People just choose what fits their tastes, bitch about everything else, and all of us know some who's tastes in our views are simply Yosemite Rancid. Not sure I said anything here, but enjoyed taking some time out to toot my views.
