This entire is restriction is dumb..
They'll be selling those black peripherals standalone by Summer I'll bet...as they should.

Bean Counter Tim isn't one to leave money on the table and 99%+ of users are certainly not going to by a $5k+ machine (vs a normal iMac for example) just for a black mouse/TP/KB

As much as I hope you're right, I wouldn't get my hopes up for them to become a standalone purchase anytime soon.

The orange Apple Watch Hermes band aswell as the exclusive bands that came with the Apple Watch Editions over the years could have easily been sold separately to make a Apple little bit of additional money, yet they are still not available as a separate purchase and might never be. And just recently, Apple introduced exclusive Force Touch iPhone wallpapers that are only available on the iPhone X – they could have easily decided to ship them to all iPhones via a software update but decided not to. Apple seems to develop a liking for these kind of exclusives.

Based on this, I'd expect the space gray accessories to go down a similar route. Apple might ship them with the redesigned Mac Pro (at least if the Mac Pro once again follows a dark/space gray design pattern like the 2013 one), but I doubt they'll ship them with normal iMacs or separately anytime soon. The dark/space gray theme might become one of Apple's "pro"-characteristics for desktop computers – which is admittedly silly, considering they don't have this color separation on the MacBooks or iPhones, but this seems to be the route they are taking.

The right click on my mouse doesn't work, so I called to get a replacement. After some confusing back and forth, I was sent to second level support. We went through verifying that it's defective, but the guy can't figure out how to order it! What can I tell him about how to find the space grey mouse in their system?

Sometimes if a rep doesn't understand a problem or doesn't know to order a replacement, you will never get him to do the right thing. I would suggest to talk to another person.

This one is second level and understands what he needs to order, he just doesn't know how to do it. He said they were told how, but he can't remember and can't find the memo or anyone who can help him. He said he'll call tomorrow.

Now the Mouse goes on eBay...

So it looks like they ordered one for me. I wasn't having much luck when this first started but I figured I'd just give it a few weeks for things to settle down and they were able to set it up. I really appreciate Apple doing this I also got in on the Micro Center deal which was amazing but I do really love the trackpad it's one of the things that I really enjoy is the gestures so I'm just really glad there was an option for us.

So one can basically buy the iMac Pro from Microcenter for $4000 which comes with only the spacegray keyboard and mouse and then order the trackpad for another $150 via Apple support? So $4150 for the whole set? Sounds pretty awesome; the absense of the spacegray Magic Trackpad seemed like the only downside of the Microcenter deal.

Would I live in the US that might just push me over the edge to buy one. Guess I can only hope that we in the EU get a deal similar to the Microcenter one aswell one day :(

Yeah I was pretty bummed about it I really love the trackpad and the OS is great with gestures. They had them on Ebay but then you are pretty much losing the discount you got on the computer in the first place so I was just holding off for a while. I have a regular one but it's straight up white and looks pretty laughable so this is very welcome.

Hopefully you all do get a Micro Center deal, seems like a brilliant marketing move on their part. Discount some computers that aren't likely to sell in high volume and get many times that amount in positive free word of mouth. Seems way more effective than if they sunk millions into advertising.

Heck I’m thinking about the standard set up just because I want and iMac and hate silver

I didn't even need to prove anything to be defective before the rep ordered the trackpad and keyboard for me.

Then you really should get a normal iMac and find a way to buy the space grey accessories from Apple. You will only have a silver chin left in the front :p

Hi! Wanted to make a separate thread cause it's pretty important info :)

I've bought my iMac 3 days ago with a Space Grey mouse and keyboard but not a trackpad. Today I've decided to buy the trackpad and I've contacted Apple Support to find out if that is possible. So it turns out...

Yes you can order it from Apple Support! Just select your iMac Pro as a product and open a chat and tell them you want to get a Space Grey mouse/keyboard/trackpad, they'll send you a web payment link and ask for shipping details and will send it to you!

And if something happens to any of the Space Grey accessories, you can reorder them the same way:

Yay! :D

Thanks for your OP.

Today I went through the telephone process for ordering backups for my iMP's Space Gray Keyboard and MM2.

It took six (6) Apple Tech and Sales people and close to one (1) hour to get them ordered. The last two people were the most helpful and finally I was sent an Email with a link for me to use for placing the "Service Transaction" order. I paid $178 + $21.20 tax for these two items. They charged a bit extra as I will not be sending back to them my current KB and MM2. They said eventually this extra charge will be waived.

Again Pangalactic, Thank you. :):):)

From what I understood, the key is not to allow yourself to be transferred anywhere outside the chat (e.g. to Apple Care or to Sales). Whenever I was transferred to somewhere else, it all ended with no desired result. Some people were just telling me it's not possible, others ordered me a white keyboard...

I have finally ordered a Russian space gray keyboard from Apple when I tried to stay in chat and they seem to be getting ready to ship it soon.

IMO... the most important aspect in all of this is for one to be patient and persevere. The first person said "not possible" and I said "unacceptable, and it has/is possible, so please connect me with AppleCare or Sales please...". The last two people knew what to do. The last but one person said ... "yes, I know it can be done as there was an official memo about how to do it, but now I've lost the memo .... but will get a person who DOES know..." and the final person knew EXACTLY how to get the Space Gray accessories ordered and sent to me.

You need 3 things to order space gray parts. An iMac Pro registered to you,
an Apple account, and lastly as far as the rep is concerned a broken part that you need replaced. Then you will get your keyboard trackpad or mouse. If you don’t return the part you are replacing then you will be charged the price of the part.

I'm a bit confused at this point as today I received two boxes; one had a small white keyboard and the other a white MM2. I called Apple and the process for me to follow is to return these two items (they do have return labels so no S&H charges for me to cover) by Mar 1st to avoid being charged for them. Once Apple receives these two items they will then send my the SG KB and MM2 for my iMP. Hopefully this will all work successfully.

In my case I'm obtaining a spare Space Gray KB & MM2 as protection against some future failure or loss of my current KB & MM2. I will be paying for these spare items as I'm not returning either of my current Space Gray KB & MM2 because they are both operational.

They really don't care about spares. If you want service parts yours has to be “broken or inoperable”. Hopefully you understand why I put that in quotes. (-: The rep may even quiz you through troubleshooting before authorizing a service part order.

Yes, I understand what you're saying. When I approached Apple about wanting spare Space Gray KB and MM2 I indicated I wanted them in the event either became inoperative, lost or stolen at some future date, regardless of my current KB & MM2 being operational. They understood my request/reasoning and agreed to this and setup a process for me to obtain spares. They initiated a "Service Transaction" which is the means for replacing broken/inoperative KB and/or MM2 and this involves Apple first sending White replacements to me which I have to return promptly and then secondly, once Apple receives these White units, will ship out the Space Gray units to me.

The "Service Transaction" process is used in this case as I'm not claiming replacements, but rather spares as I described above.

You are lucky! That is not the usual with model only parts.

I didn't need the first two for the order :p

That's what I was afraid of...
Same thing happened to me when I was dealing with Apple Sales. They confirmed that they understood what I need and that they will order a space gray keyboard... but still they sent me a white one.

My advise:
1) return these products for a refund
2) start from scratch by going to chat as advised in this thread and do not let yourself to be transferred anywhere else. Also, read through this thread again and get the part numbers for the space gray products you need. If you will mention these part numbers to the Apple representatives in chat - it will help them to order the right items for you.

One thing that I find strange though, is that you paid through the link that they provided to you - this is what happens when your order a replacement part (same process for ordering the space gray accessories), so I had hopes it would work out for you... sorry to see it did not.
