I bought my APP2 from BB and had 12 minutes to stop there on my way to another appointment.
A regular BB guy said the way to test the battery in the case is to remove the earbuds and leave the case out all night then check the score in the morning.
Does that make sense?
I did this test and this morning the case is at 100% with the last charge maybe 12 hours earlier.
However, both earbuds showed loses. The left went from 100% to 74% and the right maybe was 96% is now 76%.

I have a second set of APP2. They were charged more than 3 days ago. The earbuds show 100% while the case shows 68%

Ok, what I wanted to say: it will start draining again if you use them once after charging.
It’s the same here: There is completely no loss for days. But if I use them just for one minute and lay them away, the battery will lose 25% a day…
Strange. I removed my AirPod Pros and re-paired them two weeks ago and have not had any unusual battery drain with the case since then. And I do have Find My re-enabled. The only time I experienced any battery drain in the case was when I had the AirPods connected my AirFly and forgot to turn the AirFly off. But even then, the case went from 100% to 95% in 18 hours, which is acceptable.

I went to exchange my AirPods yesterday. Then I noticed that the case stopped discharging. It didn't just get better, it stopped losing a single percent of battery, even for many hours! I didn't change a thing. It just happened on its own.

I find that when my APP2 are away from me (triggering the Find My Alert), the battery drains faster. When it is within reach of the phone, they are not draining fast and often stay at 100-99% for a day or more before dropping further.

I am having this issue too. My AirPods Pro 2 case drains way faster than my gen 1 did. Then gen 1 would last for a couple of days and get a solid 5 - 6 charges of the AirPods.

The gen 2 case lasts 1 day, maybe a little longer. Recharges the AirPods 1-2 times and then its depleted. What is going on here?

Same experience. Also some weird bugs when showing the individual AirPods battery sometimes and some random disconnections.

I have an appointment at the Apple Store, but I don’t think a replacement will change anything at this point.

I am guessing this must be related to the fact that the case is always connected now and always broadcasting its battery level to multiple devices. Which is insanely ironic if this is what is draining the battery to begin with.

Does your case drain in standby? If not then the issue is not the fact that it's constantly showing the percentage. I don't have any standby drain but the case holds around 12 hours instead of the 24 that Apple claims. To me it just seems to be false marketing from Apple.

Both. There is a lot of drain when charging and not charging.

Anecdotally I find the case seems to drain quicker than my gen 1 AirPods Pro. Haven't seen the overnight drain as I tend to leave them on the Apple Watch charger at night.

I hope it's like the iPhone 14 Pro, where battery life was inexplicably bad, and then gets magically fixed by an update later.

Ok so last night I left everything out of the case overnight, the case itself drained only 1% overnight. Then I put the AirPods back in the case this morning, which were fully depleted, and after charging to 100%, the case lost 30% of charge. So if it is using 30% to fully recharge AirPods, at best it can do a little more than 3 full charges, which is way less than the 5 full charges Apple claims.

Everything you described is expected behavior.

Thanks. BB wanted me to do this test before exchanging for another 'new' APP2. However, no post here as convinced me yet another set will make a difference.

I have the APP2 running 5A377. Although I haven't yet experienced any issues, I noticed the earbuds have the charging symbol in the notification area on my phone. They are appear to be at 100%. I am not seeing any battery draining on the case or earbuds.

Yes, it is there the whole time. A black lightning means charging and green means full.

I was just on a phone call with an Apple Senior Advisor. They told me to schedule an in person appointment in one of the apple stores.

When I mentioned dozens of other people having the same problem and there are several posts on the Internet, he told me that Apple is most likely to acknowledge the problems they hear in their own support forum.

So I searched and found this post on their forum which is the same problem as ours, I suggest we post our problems there too. So please just sign in their forum and paste your current post there.

Don't forget to click on "I have this question too" button.

Done.

My question though is how can you miss that horrible drain in QC? Do they even test devices?

Also what are they going to do? Design a new case and replace everything? Patch it somehow with software and possibly ruin ANC or something else again? Swap cases again and again without actually fixing the issue?
It’s amazing that Apple can track whatever dude is posting leaks on twitter and forums, but so far it’s like they didn’t hear any complaints about the AirPods.

Last night I did the suggested test of leaving the AirPods out of the case for the night. The case and airpods were both at 100 when I started, about 9 hours ago. This morning the case is actually still at 100, but the airpods had very even battery drain. One only dropped to 97%, but the other is at 77%. I'm guessing that isn't normal?

Is there anything I can do to fix this, or should I consider an exchange?

I get it. The job of the case is to keep the earbuds charged. However, the case will drain a lot faster if it is giving juice continuously to the earbuds. There should be a sensor in the case to detect when the earbuds are charged.

I‘m pretty sure the case knows that. You can see it for example when you have optimized charging enabled. Sometimes the earbuds just stay at 80% in the case when it thinks you don’t need them now.

So it’s been 2 days with the new update and I can verify that now my AirPods case uses the amount that it should use to charge back the AirPods, so one issue down.
The case standby drain is still there and it’s about 10% per day.

Thanks for the update. I've been doing some testing on my own set to see if the battery and pods last as long as they are supposed to. How have you determined the case is using the amount of battery it's supposed to to charge the buds?
