Thanks for the update. I've been doing some testing on my own set to see if the battery and pods last as long as they are supposed to. How have you determined the case is using the amount of battery it's supposed to to charge the buds?

Apple claims that the AirPods (with the case) should last about 30 hours with anc, about 50% volume and spatial audio off.
This is exactly how I am using them for about 2 hours a day and I end up with with 64% battery left and close to 50% when I use them for 3 hours. So it looks like I’m indeed getting 6H out of them in a single charge.

The case theoretically should charge the AirPods 4 times from 0 to 100 so that we can get 30 hours of listening time.
Based on that, it should use about 25% for a full charge, or about 8-9% from 64% percent that I usually end up with every working day.

Until 2 days ago the case was using at least 15% battery life to charge them back to 100%, which is double the expected amount. But after the update the case lost 8% of battery life twice in a row, so I can only assume that this issue is fixed.

The only problem that I see right now is that when I check them about 2 hours after the charge is done and I go to sleep, the case goes down another 10% overnight for literally no reason.

It might look irrelevant if you use the AirPods for many hours though the day and you need to fully charge the case after 2-3 days, but for my usage it’s still quite bad.
After 1 week I use them for about 12 hours (6 days, 2h a day) meaning that the case should charge them for 6H combined, so 25% of the case battery. But with this 10% battery drain per day means 70% of the case battery on standby (10% a day) after a week! Add the actual amount that I am using that is about 25% and that’s 95% of the whole battery life just for 12h of listening time!

Ps. And just to clarify, I don’t have a continuous drain through the day (okay, maybe something like 1% that’s normal), I just go to sleep and when I wake up the case is 10% down while everything is fully charged and I don’t lose anymore battery for the next 12 hours.

I actually noted the usage on my previous pair to get an indication of battery drain on the case. My current pair is sitting at 77% with 2hr and 31mins, so honestly not much difference - it definitely isn’t as bad as some of the posts above but clearly nowhere near the stated 24 hours on their website. I listen at around 60% volume with ANC on half the time.

Be curious to see what other people’s total usage time is.

Latest firmware has finally fixed this issue as others have stated, used the airpods for just under 2 hours today and down to 95% battery - massive improvement over the previous FW. ANC seems to be a bit better outdoors too?

The case or the AirPods are down to 95%?

I contacted Apple about this problem, after trying the usual forget and pair again, they told me to send them the AirPods to repair them. I received a mail telling me there is no problem and they send them back to me… so don’t worry, apparently it’s totally normal to have such a poor case battery life for a new product !

I send them in for repair as well because of this problem. Received them back yesterday with the same message! Nothing wrong they said.
I charged the case yesterday evening. And this morning it was already 8% discharged. I've got such a bad feeling about this.

It isn't an existential problem, but this makes me kind of desperate.

Just a question for those that don't have problems. Do you use the battery widget on you iPhone to track the battery of the AirPods and the case?

And in the 10 minutes I did some research and wrote the message above it lost again 3% according to the battery widget. This is driving me nuts

Hey guys,

Just made an account to talk about my experience.

Got a pair of Airpod Pros 2 from Best Buy mid October and had awful case battery drain. Returned them and got a new pair. Was still getting some crappy stand by battery life so went to an Apple store and they replaced the case.

It seemed like the newest firmware update kinda saved the standby battery life.

However it seems like with the actual buds themselves they are taking a 1-1 battery % ratio from the case when I listen to them. If I listen to them for say half hour to 45 minutes and they drop down to 90% and put them back in the case 10% of the case gets drained.

Went back to the Apple store and they replaced the buds (so now on my 3rd pair in a month and a half for those counting).

I still am getting awful recharge from the case. Maybe 1-2 full recharge cycles out of it.

Standby seems to be better! But charging the buds themselves seems to be where I get awful battery life from the case.

I spoke to Apple Support (again) yesterday, and there was a senior adviser who would try to convince me that a drain of 1% per hour when not in use was normal.

So a standby time of 100 hours ..... Really?

By now, given the absurd reactions I get from support I would say there is definitely something wrong with some of the AirPods Pro 2 (or particular user configurations)

Have some of you not had AirPods before? The AirPods while in the case are slowly losing battery ALL the time, but they come out of the case at 99 or 100 percent because the case is constantly topping them off, which obviously leads to case drain. So when Apple says 30 hours of battery life, they mean if you listen to them 6 hours, immediately charge, then listen again right as they top off to 100 etc. It bothered me on my first pair of AirPods too, but it’s normal behavior. Huge battery loss isn’t normal though.

The issue is that the first AirPods Pro had almost no standby case drain for me compared to these AirPods Pro 2. It’s a huge negative difference.

Has anyone managed to resolve this yet?

It would be impossible for any AirPods case to not have drain when not in use. They’re literally designed to do so. The only time they don’t suffer significant drain is when the AirPods are removed from the user’s apple account and then the button on the case is held in, resetting them to factory settings.

You didn’t read my post.

The APP2 are draining in standby much much more than my APP1’s ever did, as noted by others here as well.

The case drains way too much much when charging the buds from let's say 80-100%, so it doesn't have anything about what you're talking about though.

The worst seems to be when you only use the buds for a few minutes and then put them back in the case at 98-99%. It then takes almost 10% to fully charge them again.

Today I’ve been using the airpods for around 70 minutes and the case is down to 85%. So I can aspect around 9 hrs from the case, no 24 hrs there exactly. Well, the battery is crap, they sound great though. I guess that’s the most important thing..

This is true of my AirPods Gen 2.

I hate that when I try to explain to someone at the Genius bar or on the phone its super hard for them to understand "if my earbuds drain 15%, 15% gets sucked from the case to recharge them". on my 3rd pair contemplating calling them or making another appointment but then id be on my 4th pair. I cant imagine I have just been unlucky with 3 pairs all having the same issue?

Hello all,
I to had the overnight case battery drain of 10-20% since i bought APP2 without even using it.
After contacting support was asked to ship it for repair.

I disabled the find my feature in the air-pods settings and now the battery drain has not happened.
So definitely find my is causing the drain in spite of being on the latest firmware.

Hope this helps someone.

Now the question is did the AirPods Pro 1 also have find my or was it different?
