MR members: Apple should care about human rights, etc
Also MR members in other threads: why can't I get my 14 Pro Max now?
You could get an iPhone 14 right now if you wanted.

Quite the conundrum, you wait because of the conditions at factories in China. I get it, but what you do as an individual does not matter anyway. You want the phone then wait, or buy it outside of Apple like I did. Someone else paid Apple and it’s business decisions (and that is the conditions you have today) - and I get to have the iPhone 14 Pro Max I have in my hands without the guilt.

This is probably the best route to keep your integrity and keep your hands clean. It will cost you more, about the same price if the phone were made in a democratic second/third world country like India. See how that works…

Also, the style of lazy journalism of today is showing, where “journalists” are simply relying on social media “reports.”

Here’s the thing. The factories are owned by Foxconn, a Taiwanese company. They are not under any gag order from China, so why no journalists simply ask them questions? Nobody bother to ask the Foxconn executives in Taiwan? Nobody cared to verify the claims of those workers with the management in Taiwan?

You are right that so much journalism is just reposts from Twitter, but it's also very hard to get journos on the ground in China without the CCP breathing down your neck. Of course they don't want the world to see this.

“those who are fortunate enough to work for Apple are having it much better”
… pretty much the same sentiment that drives and has driven slavery and capitalism in every country for hundreds of years

…cf. “ we have a special relationship with our slaves…” say slaveowners in the US south

…” she’s not a servant, she’s our helper,” says my friend in Lebanon and similarly many other countries about their migrant “workers”
Like I said, if you're so enraged, then put your money where your mouth is and ditch everything you own that's made in China. Otherwise it's just useless, hypocritical rhetoric.

The comments pretending that apple needs to come up with a way to get cheaper slave labour whilst simultaneously acting as if human rights is a thing for apple. Nice!

I just want to see MacRumors offer up to FoxConn a special MacRumors liason, that boring review guy with the hoodie, maybe he can do a video showing off his new FoxConn office hardware setup.

India is far more explitative. China is socialist, meaning the political system potects the poor and robs the rich. It's not doing that very efficiently because overdoing it will make everyone poor as business goes elsewhere. India is just as corrupt and inefficient, but the political system is in the palm of the rich for the rich. They also have a caste system to make sure that low-borns will always have low-born kids.
China is communist - totalitarian political system that sells the idea of "socialism". Socialism is an economic system proposed by Karl Marx, coupled with his socio-political ideologies, neither of which work and have been responsible for hundreds of millions of deaths in the 20th century. Socialism guarantees everyone but the ones in power are poor - it does not "rob the rich", it creates the Uber-rich class, an oligarchy. There is no social mobility, like a caste system. I'll support India over the CCP any day. Communists are incomprehensibly evil and the ideology ought be eradicated.

I guess I should bring up the “elephant in the room” and ask if Apple Inc. has said anything formal yet about the riots.

Check the update of the original post. Apple has made a statement that they have staff there working together with Foxconn to handle the situation.

That news cycle has past, and just deflects or buys them time to make a real statement which is probably needed now.

haha, sure. At least it's something.

But I know, Apple's priority right now is black Friday and their Ryan Reynolds + Will Ferrell AppleTV+ movie.

It really bothers me that Apple still doesn’t have a grip on this. These workers deserve better and its high time Apple step up and do (actually) something about it. They can invent all this incredible technology - but they can’t fire a business partner who treats humans like dogs? Psh.
The big a problem is that Americans only care when it’s convenient to care. There is a worse condition across our border. I’ve visited border towns where the price for things like gas and bread is like ours but they make $14 a day. With locals Living in make shift homes with dirt floors.

I’m China working at Plants like these they have more rights work in better conditions and make a bit more than what they would make working for a non Apple factory in a lot of cases.

Apple doesn’t own the factories.

What do you propose apple do? Foxconn is essentially a subcontractor.

No. They can’t fire Foxconn. Probably for two reasons. One they’ve already paid them. Two that factory us the largest factory. Three past write ups on Foxconn seem to indicate they treat their employees relatively well.

Crazy. From the outside you'd think they care so much about justice and human rights; supporting BLM, LGBTQ, AIDS, the environment etc...

Apple isn’t globally responsible for the alphabet soup of “justice and human rights” causes.
Kinda proves it's all virtue signaling doesn't it? lol
Clearly lots of virtue signaling all around especially in this thread.

It’s called “branding” which is very important to Apple and their bottom line…

Then Apple should shut up and not boldly play the saviors in public. They do this just for profit instead for the false ethical values they are advert.
