Every single phone on the market has vibrate. I WILL have vibrate. I can't imagine it not having vibrate. And no vibrate doesn't use any battery unless it's constantly vibrating. If you want that there are other, more suitable, products for sale ;)

Nokia has released phones without vibrate before. It was a true disaster, but they tried to justify it based on the specs of the phone. I doubt the phone will have it, having it shake and vibrate on a table with the possibility of scratching or damaging it in any way.

If it doesn't mention it, don't expect it. I would not be surprised if it did not have it. Plus phones in the slim segment have such a weak vibrate function that they are not noticeable.

The battery life of an 11mm phone itself can be shocking, but one with wifi and video is going to be down right unacceptable. Keep a charger with you everywhere you go folks.

The only question I care about at this point...can you just straight up buy the thing and take care of your contract at a later time or do you have to sign up when you buy it?

Well, that'll depend on whether or not you can even use it without a proper SIM card. For example, the phone that I have now won't start up w/o a SIM card. Sucked because I received the phone before my VZW contract ran out. Thus, I had to wait a month until I could get Cingular...

yeah but could be "build in" considering that AT&T is supposed to be one and only provider for years to come......

Uhhh...if they had done that, how would you ever change phone numbers (e.g., if you moved across the country, as I did last year)? On GSM, the number is tied to the SIM.

The "no SIM tray" rumor was absurd on many levels.

According to the list, it works only with Windows XP Home and Professional Editions. That wil tick off a few Vista users!

It will work. Itunes doesn't offically list vista as supported either. But it works fine. And itunes is what the phone requires.

Not true, my number has been on three seperate SIM cards so far.

Really? I can't remember the last nokia that didn't have a vibrate function. Maybe it was ommited from some US spec phones only ?

My 13mm Nokia 6300 vibrates pretty hard.

not enough space!!

i need a new iPod, and the iPhone would be bomb if it had more GB's... i want to be able to transport all my songs (4600+), but the iPhone just doesn't cut it... i guess ill have to wait for the updated iPods.

trying to convince the wife while typing this response...

After reading some of the other responses to your post,

Props to you for respecting your wife and your shared finances.

Here's a question I have that I have not seen asked yet in the many iPhone threads here. Will insurance be offered for the iPhone through AT&T or Line Lock who cingular currently uses? I have Cingular/ AT&T and I have a Blackberry 8700c I had also considered buying a treo a year and I half ago when I purchased my blackberry. Sadly I found out the Cingular does not offer insurance on it's smartphones. Let's hope their is an insurance offering for an iPhone. My contract just ended last month so I could easily get an iPhone if I had the money for one.

Nokia n90- no vibrate. Might not have been released here, I don't follow the phones available here much, more of the global products.

I have a 6300, it does have a big vibrate. But it is also built like a tank, and has no features other than making calls, sms, and photo.

May the "Requires internet connection" hint to online activation? Unlikely, I know, but wouldn't it be nice to be able to walk into the store, pick up an iPhone, buy it as if you were buying an iPod, and walk out? :D
Without the Phone and Internet capabilities!?!? For $499-599!?!? Why on earth would you want that?

No. I think I'll wait until my $499 buys me a 6G video iPod that looks like the iPhone and has 80GB of space or better yet: a $599 6G video iPod with 120GB of space.

That's what I'm waiting for. :)

personally, the thing has too much crammed in a tiny container.

I predict people will be investing lots of money, but also lots of time. many tears will be shed and lots of anger generated when:
1) they lose it
2) they break it
3) it just stops working.

Those that buy it will see how this device will do nothing but complicate their life instead of simplify it.

That's my personal opinion. I'm sure many people will get lots of use/entertainment/situations where they are thought to be paris hilton, and I am glad for their positive experience.

They're they only dealer. I forsee a nice eBay trend approaching in getting an iPhone and just using your old phone and selling the iPhone on eBay to a GSM-provider user for a handsome profit.

Nice to see the inclusion of the SIM tray. Overall, a nice set of specs. The question ... get one now or wait for the first revision
