Sprint is CDMA.

They will find a way... we can land on the moon but we can't hack into a cell phone?:D

Sprint?? Correct me if Im wrong but isnt Sprint CDMA?? It can only work with GSM....

See reply above...

Waiting for iphone 2 after the worldwide beta test. :D

I am in that boat with you... can't wait for this 5 year beta testing to be over so we can get a real smartphone with real smartphone features that works with the other service providers and has 3rd party apps. Don't forget more space... when flash drives get up to 60GB for dirt cheap.

personally, the thing has too much crammed in a tiny container.

I predict people will be investing lots of money, but also lots of time. many tears will be shed and lots of anger generated when:
1) they lose it
2) they break it
3) it just stops working.

Those that buy it will see how this device will do nothing but complicate their life instead of simplify it.

That's my personal opinion. I'm sure many people will get lots of use/entertainment/situations where they are thought to be paris hilton, and I am glad for their positive experience.

I agree with you too... Cingular doesn't offer insurance on smartphones... that is one big reason I wouldn't get it if I had Cingular... I could never imagine dropping my phone and having it break only to pay full price for a new phone. My girlfriend (God bless her soul  ) left her Treo 650 at the mall one year and of course it was gone by the time she went back for it. She called Sprint and all she paid was $50 and a new one was mailed to her... if she looses her phone too much though they won't replace it every time... but with a $600 smartphone I can see that as being very reasonable. :D

I'm praying!

My hands are clasped together too... but right now I am going to get the Treo 755p and a 4GB microSD card and Mark/Spaces missing sync and a few other acessories and be happy with that... I will sit tight on my wallet for 5 years and wait and see how Apple really does in the cell phone market and see if Palm has been working on something other than that crappy Foleo... like a Linux based OS for their smartphones and PDAs.

Yet, still no details on if it has a removable battery or not. I am guessing it doesn't, otherwise why would they keep something this silly secret.

I used to think that a second battery was a bit overkill, but after seeing what my friends can do with their Treos and Blackberries on the web and such I might have to invest in one as well when I get mine...

Glad the Treo has a removeable battery. ;)

Few details have been leaked about the phone itself, beyond the original specs described in January.

I was wondering if the new RINGTONE shown on the ads has been mentioned. Tecnically it is something more to add on the list of things the ads have shown us! Not as magical or mysterious as the missing button, however ..:D

This adds a new option to the first shown last keynote :)

SIM Slot

Hi,

Well, I was listening to the "Apple Phone Show" podcast, and they say that you can buy the phone out-right for just under $1000. So, that clearly means that the SIM slot MUST be user accessible so that the user can put a SIM in later down the track.

Here's a question I have that I have not seen asked yet in the many iPhone threads here. Will insurance be offered for the iPhone through AT&T or Line Lock who cingular currently uses? I have Cingular/ AT&T and I have a Blackberry 8700c I had also considered buying a treo a year and I half ago when I purchased my blackberry. Sadly I found out the Cingular does not offer insurance on it's smartphones. Let's hope their is an insurance offering for an iPhone. My contract just ended last month so I could easily get an iPhone if I had the money for one.

Call lock/line and ask them if they will be covering the Apple iPhone:

it says internet access required...so do you think this means a data plan is required?

whoops nevermind saw that it was under system requirements...thought that it was for the iPhone. haha

That could be said of any gadget.

But I disagree with you about the iPhone. It's a perfectly executed all-in-one device. And with proper music management, it could replace an iPod altogether. Only one thing in your pocket rather than two—a phone and an iPod. Seems more simple to me.

Just wish it was around 350 bucks or 600 bucks without a contract.

Importantly, do we think the 3.5mm jack will support plugging the iPhone into your TV (like the iPod video)? Thats a massive selling point in itself!

I'd think 'no' - because the jack on the phone has to support the Microphone in...

I wonder what the point was of signing up for email updates from :apple: at&t ...

Every single phone on the market has vibrate. I WILL have vibrate. I can't imagine it not having vibrate. And no vibrate doesn't use any battery unless it's constantly vibrating.
I can't believe that it doesn't have a video camera. Honestly -- the most basic phones these days have those.

I do hope it has video out (like I use to give slideshows/presentations from my iPod Photo). Be it through the headphone jack, the dock connector or (like iPods) both. Maybe adding mic to the headphone jack requires relegating video to the docking connector? (Which has the advantage of S-video support anyway, on iPods. Do current iPod docks still have S-Video out on the back?)

Also note: the actual screen size is 3.7" diagonal. It's odd that Apple rounds it down to .5. Then again, they round their 15.4" MacBook Pro down to 15".

320x480 @ 160 ppi does not come out to 3.5"--and you can verify this easily by measuring an image of the iPhone using the known external dimensions. (See http://apple.com/pr for high-res iPhone images.)

I might agree, but my spouse-unit would take exception to your opinion. But, she is one of the people who can (and does) program every function of her digital watch. Many people, especially those used to exploiting the features of small devices, will also disagree with you. Hopefully, you realize that.

Those that buy it will see how this device will do nothing but complicate their life instead of simplify it.

When did you begin to think people were trying to simplify their lives? (I refer you back the the previous paragraph). More importantly, when did you acquire the ultimate wisdom to make such a profound statement?

Um, it's a GSM phone. It lacks the radio required to transmit/receive from a CDMA network (Sprint). "Hacking" the phone so it can work on Sprint would mean replacing the entire circuit board.

What's your point... it will be done  ;) :D

The moon people the moon and back again with no major problems... we can hack a phone... if they can't... then I will wait for the beta testing to be over to get the real iPhone that works with other service providers and has 3rd party software and such...

Can't wait to use my Sprint iPhone 5.0 with iWork and iLife Mobile, and .MacMobile :D

Release is all too similar to the SE p990. When announced it had top of the range specs, but once it actually shipped it was doing the same thing as every other phone.

iPhone is going to turn into the next "hobby" for SJ, like the apple tv. Recognition that more work needs to done, although this time with a lot more hype surrounding it.

Anyone looking for an all in one replacement for their ipods/phones is looking at a bigger mess than having separate units.

In theory any SIM card put into a GSM phone will work as a phone. What does not work across carriers is things like email, Web, MMS, and in the case of iPhone one would assume Visual Voicemail.

So if your a Tmobile player, and you someone get your hands on an iPhone, sure you can use it as a phone and an iPod, but the phone will be crippled until someone figures out a true "unlock" which I say will be unlikely.

my 2 cents...

Tmobile

Tmobile and ATT don't use the same flavor of GSM. Their phones are incompatible. The sims might be the same, but they're the part that's been coded for the particular carrier. Moto, for example, makes different model phones foor different carriers. They aren't just numbered different. They're different tech.

It does have a camera.

Steve Jobs has already said the phone will not be subsidised. $1,000 is untrue.

Yep. It will be impossible to make it work on a CDMA network. No software hack can modulate/code and the difference in frequencies. I was reading the spec sheet for the chipset used in the iPhone (cannot remember which) and it only supports GSM.

You are obviously not married.....

At least two people actually mocked a guy for consulting his wife about a decent-sized purchase.

And people wonder why the divorce rate is sky-high these days. Holy cow.

Something tells me both of those guys will be giving up half of everything they own to some exasperated woman :)

OK, name me 2 phones with multitouch & movie playing & 4GB HD on the market by the end of this month.

really? this is going to complicate my life? by having my ipod and my phone be one in the same? so when I wake up in the morning I grab one device hit my car and plug it into my stereo system, make phone calls, get my email wherever, get directions, or when I'm in the aiport watch movies or snap a picture once in awhile when I need to (since I don't take my camera everywhere) or show people photos without busting out my laptop.

yeah...this device is going to really complicate my life
