The only weak spec on iPhone IMO is ram. Processor GPU camera screen are all great. Wish it had some other hardware features like ir blaster and SD card but those are pipe dreams

Curious - why an IR blaster? Aren't all cable boxes these days wireless? I can control mine with the DirecTV app from my iPad and iPhone.

My Brighthouse box doesn't, but more so do when out and about you can change public TVs. I mostly just don't have a reason to not have it, similar to SD card. There's no downside

I'm fine with 1 GB, really. Serious browsing is always done on a desktop for me, so I'm not bothered if sometimes my tabs refresh.
Try every frickin' time. Web browsing on the iPhone 6 is a joke. Try copying and pasting text and link into a forum post and see if the browser can handle it without refreshing. 9/10 times it can't. It is inexcusable for a high-end smartphone in 2015.

However, I am also coming from a 5 and that phone was definitely slower, refreshed more often
I can categorically say that is not true. I still have my old iPhone 5 and that thing refreshes tabs rarely if ever. Compared to the iPhone 6, it refreshes tabs and apps a lot less. 64-bit processor and 1GB RAM don't really go together.

Oh I know. I wouldn't necessarily either. But I respect focus on certain things without getting distracted by superfluous features - from Apple's point of view.

I think apples view is more about money, they don't want to waste potential profit since most don't care about this stuff, even if they cost hardly anything

Perhaps - though I'm not sure how much an IR blaster could cost.....doesn't seem like TV remotes are complex pieces of machinery....

Believe it or not, Apple does have other motivations besides money.

Yet the Samsung Galaxy S6 is .1 mm thinner thinner than the iPhone 6. Yup, nobody cares about device thickness anymore. ;)

Puff, really? more thinner? expect the iphone 6s to be more thinner, nobody cares about device thickness anymore except Apple and now Samsung. :(

I'm at the point where I get every Galaxy flagship and iPhone. After coming from the S5 though, the iPhone 6 was startling in how underspec'ed it was.

In the past, the iPhone UX was so strong that it could trump specs, but the S5 was such a solid phone with a solid UX, that the flaws of the iPhone 6 were just glaring and I returned it.

Now double that disparity with the Note 4.

Now triple it with the S6.

It's not 2013 anymore. Apple needs more to get my attention.

Also, Spigen was what I went with as well: http://www.spigen.com/brands/samsung/galaxy/galaxy-s6/galaxy-s6-case-liquid-crystal.html

I got This one

Except they're the 2 largest smartphone manufacturers in the world. People buy more iPhones and Samsung devices than anything else, by a long shot. So apparently, quite a few people care about thickness.

Do you have any samples to proof S6 is better?

Jay, I don't own an S6 but iPhone's camera sensor is pretty darn good.

Oh I had the S6 Edge for a few days and took loads of photos.

And my wife has the iPhone 6, so we were doing direct comparisons.

Obviously the iPhone 6 is an excellent camera, but the Galaxy S6 is a clear step up, honestly amazing. So quick, so clear, so accurate. Maybe it helps because the screen is ridiculously good, too - but then emailed photos and compared then.

There is a slight overkill on the occasional HDR pic, but otherwise it's honestly the best camera on a phone there's ever been on Android or iOS.

Trust me, Apple will know and will really boost the iPhone 6S camera, it's logical.

You can't just say its better. Better what? Better low light? Better sensor? Bokeh looks better? iPhone 6 camera is already quick, clear, and accurate. From the samples of S6 I've seen it's on par with 6 not much better. In fact, some daytime pics from S6 is worse, a lot more saturated and incorrect metering.

He did say....they took a ton of pictures with the IP6 and S6 and the S6 pictures were better. The IP6 has a great camera but the S6 camera is better. That might change when the IP6s drops in the fall.
I have the 6+ and the S6....the pictures to my untrained eye seem better on the S6. I can't pinpoint the exact details you mentioned. But they seem better. Hope this helps.

Perfect example of short attention spans and forgetting about release schedules.

I assume that when the new iPhone comes out in September, you'll be asking the same question about why Samsung refuses to do a spec bump on the S6?

Apple's not going to do a spec bump when their current iPhone models came out only 7 months ago. In fact, they only update most of the internal hardware once every two years.

Why? Because most of the spec bumps that could be done on an annual or bi-annual basis have minimal impact on the user experience. Apple doesn't care much about spec sheets. In fact, constant updates to the hardware can introduce all sorts of new bugs by requiring iOS and apps to account for a larger range of chipsets and drivers.

You already see the growing pains with the iPhone 6/6 Plus and iOS 8. By updating the hardware at midcycle, do you want to introduce a whole new set of potential bugs right when the iPhone 6/6 Plus and iOS 8 have become reasonably stable?

Actually a mod changed the title for whatever reason. I was just curious if they are eben able to match the specs if they wanted to, as in are there even enough of comparable parts on the market by September.

I wonder if Apple is even able to catch up to the S6 hardware-wise? What if Samsung can't produce enough 14nm CPUs and DDR4 chips for both their own phones and Apple's? And is it realistic that there will be a much improved LCD screen ready for mass-production by September?

Could the performance crown go to Samsung (Galaxy) indefinately? Would be sad, i still prefer iOS, but i also like to have the cutting-edge technology..

No worries. It's not a matter of "if" but "when".

Apple and Samsung tend to leapfrog each other. The S5 was a disappointment that lasted about a year before the S6 gave Samsung the S phone owners could be proud of again.

Well, the main things that made the S6 as fast as it is are the 14nm SOC, ddr4 ram, and flash memory, all of which I expect apple to use in the 6S. And they might even be switching to AMOLED, apparently Samsung already has a team together to build a custom display for Apple, though that's probably more for the 7 next year.

I don't think thickness has more priority over battery life for people. Thickness to those extremes is just pure marketing for both companies.

Really? My iPhone 4s does that all the time. But I completely understood because the phone is approaching four years old. But the latest and greatest *still* pulls that crap?

Damn, Apple has some serious Snow Leopard-ing to do, that's for sure.

FWIW, none of my iP6, iP6+, iPad Air, Air 2, nor Mini 2 reload "all the time". It happens, but certainly not regularly enough to matter.

Though I'm more "app" than "web". I do a lot of my forum browsing in Tapatalk. And it doesn't reload if I leave to copy and come back to paste.
