Are we sure that updated models will be released? I am more inclined to get an update retina MacBook as I have grown to love the size/weight factor.

If there was one model I'd be pretty shocked about not being updated, it would specifically be the rMB.
I think that update is a lock - The rest, I'm really not sure about.

I think all of the laptop spec bumps will be sort of non-events that are mentioned in a slide or 2 about "the latest chips", "bit more efficient, faster, making the best better" sort of things - and then on with the rest of the keynote.

The spec bumps won't be the stars of the show, the new iPad Pro's will be though. Phil Schiller will come up on stage give an overview of how "well received" the new MacBook Pro's are; say its best MacBook Pro ever. "Everyone loves the Touchbar; more developers are adding support rapidly. Phil will go on to say how much they believe in touch bar".

He will then go on to say, we are making it even better, updated with Intel's 7th generation processors and support for 32 GBs of DDR3 RAM. Increase in battery life and even brighter display.

So thats the even better MacBook Pro, preorder yours today, ships in two weeks.

Now, I want to talk about iPad Pro. People love iPad Pro, its amazing what our customers are able to do with iPad Pro. What else can we do with iPad Pro? Today we are introducing a new family member to replace the model that started it all. Its thinner, lighter, bigger, brighter display, an all new design.

I don't think we will see 32GB though I would be pleasantly surprised if we did. I expect KabyLake, maybe some iteration of the keyboard to address issues, maybe.....maybe a mild price drop

I sort of agree about the 32GB thing.

That really felt like a turbo small niche making a lot of noise that is way out of proportion for actual demand for that option. I'm not sure Apple will go out of their way to add 32GB options if it sacrifices too much elsewhere in the overall product design (like battery life). They probably know how in or out of demand that feature is though, so...

Who knows...should be interesting.

After 18 years of key notes, you kinda have an idea. ;)

Its very much possible they could have 32 GB LPDDR3 RAM ready. I don't think they would save a chipset update for an October update. Any additional modification would be next years model which rumors say will include a specific ARM chip to handle power management. By then LPDDR4 RAM might be ready.

How so?

I've not seen any compelling news stories that it will happen, only conjecture. While I'm not disagreeing with you that we may see something. I think people are convincing themselves this is a done deal and its not. There's been nothing (AFAIK) from apple to give us any indication that we'll definitely see a MBP refresh. Don't get me wrong, I hope we do see it, but I don't think its a case of it becoming more likely.

Yeah same. I guess maybe they'll update a component or something, but we are more likely to see new iMacs and the like. I also secretly hope they don't update just because I bought mine a few months ago...

According to the latest Macrumors, it doesn't look like a price drop is expected. Good news, availability is likely a couple days after WWDC 2017. Apple seems to be holding firm to its pricing model for these new generation of MBPs. Probably a sign they have not gotten a ROI on the R&D for this model yet.

Users likely won't see a price drop until Rev C. Then again, Rev. C itself might be an even bigger update taking into account the rumors of ARM Chip for power management, possible 5k display, Canonlake CPU upgrade, AMD Vega graphics and DDR4 Low power.

On no I'm very much one of the folks who wants 32GB - and I don't think it is a small niche as some make out. But I still don't think it will happen this time. Any changes will be iterative - and the 32GB option is not iterative.

I love options so people can get what they want...

I'm just skeptical it's coming anytime soon

Apple is doing incremental updates so they can milk gradually anyone who is/is coming within/into their ecosystems. If you don't know this, you're not from Earth. So if you opened up a thread about this topic, I can only infer you're just moaning , never will buy an Apple product, stay on forums to kill time.

This is not unique to Apple you realise - pretty much the entire electronics industry is built like this. Apple just been that little bit more greedy of late...

No one puts their hands in your pockets, so it's take it or leave it. Dunno why ppl are complaining about this. Waste of energy and time. :)

But it is not a waste of time and energy. You think they don't listen to this? You think they don't track social media metrics and forum discussions? Of course they do. So, not a waste of time then.

Very true.
The general feel of things is absolutely tracked. What influencers are tweeting and discussing, blogging and podcasting about, the vibe gets tracked all over by Apple. It's a company full of people who are engaged in many of the same platforms and communities as all of us.

I don't know how much Apple cares about most people's opinions when it comes to product and features. As Steve Job's said,

"It's really hard to design products by focus groups. A lot of times, people don't know what they want until you show it to them.

Which is the modern equivalent of Henry Ford's quote.

“If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.”

These are from an article by a former Apple exec, https://www.helpscout.net/blog/why-steve-jobs-never-listened-to-his-customers/

@jerryk

They listen. The entire Mac Pro situation is some of the most relevant and current information indicating that.

Additionally, there have been several anecdotes of bugs/issues/odd stuff getting discussed on tech podcasts that "mysteriously get fixed very quietly".

Do they guide their decisions based upon what the outside wants?
No - But they do know what people are saying and commenting about and the general feel of how things are being received and perceived, no question about it.

As opposed to anyone else who has had a "big leap forward" recently.
