Hey now, welcome back squared off edges?

Do you think they will keep the 3.5 headphone jack for the new ipad pro?

Yes. I don’t believe Apple has intentions of removing the 3.5 mm Jack for the iPad (Regardless of what Contradicting rumors suggest). Mainly because I think the iPad is still very much a stationary device, where as the AirPods might be more of an appropriate example of why they deleted the 3.5 mm Jack, aside from Camera/processor improvements for internal space for the iPhone that Multiple Apple executives claimed the 3.5 Jack was consuming to much space. The iPad incorporates enough space likely where they can retain the 3.5 mm Jack.

I can't imagine Apple releasing new iPads as they will distract from iPhone which is where most of the money is made every year. But just like everybody else around here I don't know ****. We shall find out in a week.

I’d agree with you EXCEPT that this is an S year for the phones. What’s really mind boggling here? A new X, a big X and a cheap X.

Watches are a similar case. They go bezelless whoopdeedoo

They must be saving SOMETHING. a long shot bet is a round watch abaialable only in Hermes or edition bundles. Or the iPad Pro.

But like you said I don’t know **** either and will find out next week.

I just don’t think it’s going to be Apple Watch and iPhone announcements, last year we saw:

Apple Watch
Apple TV 4K
iPhone X and iPhone 8

This year the iPhones are An S year, there is plenty of time for an iPad Pro announcement, I don’t think there will be any Apple TV update so it could go:

Apple Watch
iPad Pro
iPhone - 3 versions
Maybe new AirPods and AirPower

AND, when you think about the fact that wireless charging AirPods and AirPower have really already been announced/unveiled and are just accessories to the ecosystem, that leaves even more time for a third major device announcement. When the AirPods were first announced along side the iPhone 7, even then I don't recall them spending a full half hour on them or anything. They showed a marketing video, talked about what they can do, and moved on. And then they were just kind of soft launched on a random day without much warning at all. (Still have mine, still use them every day, still love them!)

So I really don't see them spending a full 20 or 30 minutes on AirPower or a new AirPod case, 2 items that were already announced. We're all familiar with Qi charging at this point and we knew both of these things were in the pipeline months ago. That still doesn't eliminate another possibility though--that this will just be a really short event and they'll announce iPhone, Watch, AirPower/AirPods case, and then end it. That could easily fill up and hour to an hour and a half if they want it to. I'm thinking the tell tale sign will be if Tim Cook spends a bunch of time on retail stats and sales at the beginning. If he does, it might be for padding on a pretty short event. If he says, "I'll just keep it short and say everything is going great", then maybe that will be an indicator that there is a LOT to announce. He has done that in several of the last few keynotes.

Yea that is usually an indicator that they have a jam packed event, last years WWDC was jam packed with product announcements, this year the only products that have been announced are the cheaper iPad with Pencil support and the new MacBook Pro’s, no consumer events have been held the iPad one was for educational areas and WWDC didn’t have any product announcements. That will leave September and possibly October but Apple typically doesn’t hold October events that often, the last one was 2016 for the MacBook Pro redesign.

It’s possible that Apple use September for iPad Pros, Apple Watch and iPhone then they hold a separate October event for Mac. On the other hand it’s also possible they only do a September event and announce everything, especially if most of the Macs are only to get a spec bump:

Apple Watch Series 4
iPad Pro - redesign 2 versions
MacBook Air redesign
Mac line up gets spec bump
iPhone’s
AirPods and AirPower dates given

That is not out the realm of possibility OR:

September
Apple Watch
iPad Pro
iPhones
AirPower and AirPods

October
Mac’s
Mac Pro sneak peak for 2019

I now have a mindset wherein I’d be very surprised not to see the new iPPs on September 12th.

anyways...
I'm definitely getting the new 11" (or 10.5 or whatever we are calling it) when its announced but I'll miss the headphone jack if it's indeed gone. I agree with the arguments to keep it. I use my iPad for music playback to my sound board at shows and while I do have an XLR to Bluetooth solution I will say the pro audio industry really does still rely on that mini jack for audio on a regular basis.

Im guessing Oled screens are totally out of the question if we get 2018 models?

Let’s just stick to the topic of the iPad being released in September, my guess is it will happen, we will see this time next week tho, if it does will you be pre-ordering one? I do like the look of the new design from the leaked CAD if that’s indeed accurate.

Yeah the rumors are suggesting we won't be seeing OLED in iPad's for quite some time. Kind of a bummer as my iPhone X screen is in my estimation SO much more pleasant to use because of OLED.

I have NO expertise on this subject, so take this with a grain of salt, but I have a suspicion that the OLED tech that Apple is using in the iPhone X is not ready for ProMotion. And if I had to choose between keeping ProMotion and staying with LED for now and ditching ProMotion and going with OLED, I'd choose the option that lets me keep ProMotion.

I've said this in some other threads too--I really just don't see the difference anyway. Retina displays have become so amazing looking even on the LED model iPhones, I probably couldn't discern one from the other in a blind taste test. So for me personally--even if Apple told me the new iPads were OLED and they really weren't, I'd totally believe them.

I am long overdue for an ipad upgrade. My current one is barely hanging on. So yeah, i will definitely buy one of the new pros if they are announced in September. This will be my first ipad pro. Can’t wait.i travel a lot and want to edit photos & videos while on the road.

OH I never thought about ProMotion that's a good point! I do love OLED but it's true ProMotion is amazing and I sometimes forget that was a big selling point for me last year.

Oh I’m getting one no matter what they look like. Its actually my first iPad since the original mini and I’ve decoded to go all in and move my entire mobile computing to the iPad Pro. I’ll dump the overpowered laptop and keep a desktop at home for big screen work.

Preorder that part I’m not totally sure. See I won’t get any hands on time AT ALL. I’m back in the states only for a week mid October (expat living and working abroad) so it’s a blind purchase. I’m getting one , most probably the 12.9 but might wait one week for reviews and real world usage experience to hit the forums.

Exciting times !

I agree with you here, The TFT LCD Display that Apple has been using in its iPad so far is surprisingly so good infact the bluish white tone display that it has with that the screen image anyways looks so beautiful so yes it won't be a bad idea to trade off a OLED display to Promotion but Man ! The display of the iPhone X is something else I have seen OLED displays of all the Android Manufacturers and though OLED none of them are so vivid and colourful as the iPhone X OLED Display is !

There really isn’t much indicating OLED for the next Gen iPad. Reason being Apple likely doesn’t have the necessary suppliers coordinated to support an 11”/12.9 iPad sizes. I believe LCD panels will be used for this next Gen, which hopefully Micro-LED should be the next ‘Big thing’ moving forward for the iPad, which in theory Micro-Led offers:
  • Increased battery life by having less power draw
  • Eliminates backlighting
  • Higher resolution
  • Has two/three times brightness over OLED under the same power consumption.
Rumors suggest Apple has been experimenting with Micro-LEd for quite some time. Its just a matter of when and what Apple product see’s the debut first. (iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, ect.)

Thanks for the replies....I have a nice dilemma, I own a 12.9 iPad Pro 1st gen+ pencil and was looking to buy my daughter the new base iPad model with pencil.

Now I’m thinking of buying myself the new iPad Pro ( if out this year) and handing on my old one..win-win right?

Decisions, decision eh! ;)
