How did you manage to get calls working? Im having a hell of a time doing so.
Also from DP1 til now. Sms has been pretty spotty. I haven't been able to send a single sms today. But everything worked well yesterday under pb1.

Just followed the OP setup;)

SMS? Really??? i was referring to things like handoff and instant hotspot mostly. What does SMS have to do with bluetooth? Totally unrelated.

SMS and FaceTime audio are more server side implementations. Has nothing to with this thread at all.

SMS and calling are part of Continuity. You said that Continuity requires Bluetooth LE. You seem very confused.

You also believed that SMS and calling need BT LE, because when people say they have it working on devices that don't have that, your reply is "prove it".

You have more research to do.

Let's go over things again since some people are obviously confused.

"Continuity" encompasses the features Handoff, SMS, Calling, and Instant Hotspot.

As of right now, Bluetooth 4.0 LE is required for Handoff and Instant Hotspot.

As of right now, Bluetooth 4.0 LE is NOT required for SMS and phone calls.

SMS and phone calls will work on any device that supports iOS 8 and Yosemite. It has been proven that this is the case by the people that own older devices and Mac's that don't have Bluetooth 4.0 LE. Phone calls work over wifi.

Your just looking for an argument. I clarified my post. SMS has never required bluetooth to work on any device in this dimension. Thats so stupid to think so. Or to assume that i believed that.

It's not stupid to think so. You said this on the previous page: "The parts regarding wifi are confusing people. Wifi is not needed to get any of the continuity features to work. None of them."

It is required for phone calls.

Good post. Like i said in a previous post. the features i was referring to were handoff and instant hotspot.

But if you'd like to argue about agreeing lets continue. If you read the entire thread. You would know that my comments were in response to the comments and questions made in this thread.

People were under the impression that wifi was needed in order to get features like handoff and instant hotspot to work. I simply said that wasn't the case.

And that those features required bluetooth 4.0/le. I did make the mistake of using the term continuity several times. Which was obviously a mistake on my part.

You can continue to attack me all you want. My post still has provided more useful info than any of your blatant attacks on me.

I was wrong in saying that. And it is stupid to think sms needs bluetooth to work. SMS.

I said SMS.

In all honestly i wrote that reply out of frustration of seeing this thread grow to 3 pages of nonsense wifi talk. People were wasting a lot of time trying to figure out why things weren't working based on wifi.

Wifi is not required. You can simply tether and make a call. Or use an ethernet connection.

Where is this option "allow phone calls" in the Facetime preferences? I do it have such.. (iMac 10.10 beta 1)

I managed to get Handoff and calls working. I can also receive SMS but I can't send them at all. Any solution?

Yeah, having it here too with my rMBP and 4S. (yes, Handoff is disabled, Continuity still works - HOORAH!)

----------

As soon as I set up OS X Yosemite on my rMBP, neither continuity nor handoff were working between my 4S and the mac (both on DP3/Beta3).
I was able to get continuity to work by turning my iCloud off on both devices at least 5-7 times, with reboots from both end etc.
Got the calls to work and now I can call from the Mac - very happy.
Except Apple disabled Handoff from the 4S in the newest beta - not happy.

I have the correct LMP version, however Yosemite does not allow me to enable Handoff in System preferences, and FaceTime has no option to allow this either in FaceTime preferences either. Must be disable in the public beta.

Can Someone Help?

Hi Guys, can someone help me? I have an iPhone 5 running iOS 8, and a late 2013 MBP w/retina running OS X Yosemite. Whenever I try to pair them over BT this message comes up below comes up. Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? Screen Shot 2014-07-26 at 8.42.47 PM.png

Go to System Preferences / Network / Remove bluetooth service - reboot and re-add service, but before this remove all paired devices which this error pertains to. Of course it will take a few seconds on reboot for bluetooth to come back to life.

Still Not Connecting

Thanks for the advice. I tried this and it was connected for about 5 seconds before disconnecting. When I pair it from the phone it says the device (Macbook) is not supported, this has never happened before.

Try this: After the pairing (which the Macbook says is succesful), enable personal hotspot and switch on bluetooth, switch off wifi in the iphone, go into network preferences in the macbook, select the bluetooth PAN, and click the "connect" button. Works for me.

I've read that online already, sadly I do not have personal hotspot on my phone, so that technique is a bust.

After months of trying to get Handoff and Continuity too work.. I finally cracked it....

All my devises are signed into iCloud using @me.com
It's never caused me any lack of iCloud services in the past. I assumed @me.com is the same as @icloud.com

Once I've signed my iMac and iPhone out of @me.com and re-signed in to @icloud.com they all worked.

Go to FaceTime, then go to Preferences: Command ,

Guys, i do not have such an option in the Preferences to allow PhoneCalls... see attached. Please advise where is it in your preferences . Thanks

This is what did it for me.

Thank you!

I signed in using the iCloud.com address instead of my primary email (which has worked for everything else), and now Handoff works :)

Now the one 5s which is here is with ios 7. Do you mean - this option in FaceTime will appear automatically as soon as ios 8 phone is in the same wifi/BT network?

It will only work if both are on the new OS and signed into the same iCloud account. I was having the same problem because I wasn't signed in properly
