So looks like future restore while jailbroken 9.3.3 -> 10.1.1 method is working for some people but it breaks touchid because of SEP version mismatch. Haven't heard of any other side effects. I'm wondering if I should attempt it with my iPad air that obviously doesn't have touchid. Though yalu doesn't work on the device yet either so I guess I'll wait some more. This is the messiest jb yet eh? :p
It's not the messiest ever. This is the type of stuff they usually do behind the scenes long before they release anything to the public. We never see this stuff happen like this time so it seems like it's the messiest.

I'm semi new to JB (I jailbroke on iOS 4 and this past year on iOS 9) and I have a few questions.. some I'm just looking for opinions on as I know no one knows when a stable JB will happen or if it will be for 10.1.1 or 10.2. No need to remind me no one knows, just looking for opinions on anything related to that.. like a "what would you do?" Type thing.

I have an iPad Pro 9.7 inch that is unfortunately on 10.2. My phone is a 6Plus. My 6+ is jail broken on 9.0.2. I'd LOVE to get my phone to iOS 10 for its features and to get a more stable version of the music app/Apple Music. But I know that's not going to happen right now. The only tweaks i care about on my phone are the Snapchat tweaks like phantom and ++Snapchat. Someone in this thread mentioned that these things can be sideloaded. Again, I don't use visual tweaks at all. I've never sideloaded. Is this somewhat safe to do on a non jail broken phone? If so I'd like to upgrade my phone to 10.2 (since that's All I can JB too obviously) for all the new iOS 10 stuff and then just sideload the Snapchat tweaks that I need/want. Is this a viable option? Where can I find info on sideloading? I have am iPad Air 1 that's jail broke on 9.3.3 that I'm happy to leave there since I have the pro on 10.2. Plus I have kodi on it which I use often. Can someone help me, guide me, or give me suggestions? The ideal situation would be for me to upgrade my iPhone 6+ to 10.2, sideload the Snapchat tweaks, then if and when a 10.2 jailbreak ever happens, rejailbreak it then. Does this make sense to anyone?

Basically my understanding is that the current jailbreak is for iOS10.1.1 on only the 7 and 6S. Earlier devices maybe able to be jailbroken on 10.2, but your best off on 10.1.1 if you are already there. We don't know anything for sure though.

I really do appreciate your response, so I thank you. But that didn't answer my questions at all really. I don't have any devices running 10.1.1 nor do I wish to jailbreak any devices on 10.1.1

i was meaning your 6+ might be able to be jailbroken on 10.2 but we dont know yet. If it was a 6S or 7 then it wouldn't

I just can't imagine Luca would just keep this JB as a rough buggy beta and not update it anymore. That would make zero sense to me. Why would a developer release a buggy JB and then never work on it again and not fix and update it over the coming weeks ?

I don't know anything about Luca outside of he's a good hacker with a solid iOS history. But if the Android scene has taught me anything. It's that entitled whiny kids who feel they're entitled to hacks can make developers walk away from a project. Do I think that will happen here? No, but I have been there and watched as a developer said F IT and just quit. I can imagine how tough it has to be to work on something this complex only to have people complaining "well I want unteathered, this isn't acceptable!" and crying every 2 hours about how there isn't a non beta version yet.

Would it have been better if Luca didn't release anything at last month, kept quiet, and just waited until he had a stable JB release in a few weeks or month from now, and then just release it once ?

Or by releasing an early build, is he hoping developers can at least update their tweaks and and get stuff working behind the scenes, so when he does release the stable build, most the Cydia tweaks will already be updated and working on iOS 10 ?

I think the he took the best course, given the scenario with google disclosing the vuln. It was the hope for futurerestore/Prometheus that hurt the most IMO, because many people seemed to have stuck to 9.3.3. With out the potential there, myself and many more would have probably updated to 10.1.1 during the signing window and waited the stable jailbreak out.

not trying to take anything away from Prometheus, it is unprecedented on 64bit devices even with the touchid issue!

So I guess now what ? Does this mean Luca put the gamma and stable release on the back burner for who knows how long, or possibly never updating his 10.1.1. release beyond what it is now ?

What about the rumors of Pangu last week, that a 10.2 JB was incoming soon after Apple releases the next official 10.2.1 final release ?

First part, correct, it has no priority.

Second part, self invented rumor for Pangu as Pangu rarely gives out information and nothing was said by them.
Especially Reddit is rampant with wild speculation.

Patience.... and never rush with jailbreaks, for instance I held off because all too uncertain and looked like semi-tether again, also longtime posters like AJ were hesitant, if the regulars here are confident and are updating then it is time.

This is funny, just type this into Google "new 10.2 jailbreak release soon ?"

https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=new 10.2 jailbreak release soon ?

And look at the links of websites, all very recent dates, practically making you think a new JB is coming any day now. LOL Never even heard of these sites before. Just so much click bait out there. I guess it's the same with these YouTube channels all claiming inside knowledge of a secret new JB just days away from release LOL

I hear you, I agree that there's many entitled whiny people talking junk and not really knowing or appreciating the work that is behind debugging, finding exploits and turning them into usable vulnerabilities and workable executable JB programs and the tons of error fixing and multiple issues that could go wrong and need fixing and updating after the JB code is injected.
Its nowhere near an easy or simple thing to do.
JB scene hackers just gotta ignore people like that cause there's always going to be nonsense like that no matter what platform you look at.

Side loading is safe. I have done it numerous times... as long as you trust where the IPA is from.

SO if I am on 10.1.1 on an a 7 plus 64, can I jailbreak or not? I've read all of these posts but I'm very confused...

So for now it sounds like we're in a holding pattern for a stable JB release if you on the iPhone 7 / 7 Plus ?

Our options;

- Stay on 10.1.1 if possible for now

- There may eventually possibly be a stable update from Luca for his alpha 10.1.1. JB, but that's totally up in the air

- You can try the risky rough 10.1.1 JB that's out now, but beware it's not for the faint of heart, meant for experts

- Rumors of a 10.2.1 JB from the Chinese are just rumors for now ( supposedly coming after Apple officially releases 10.2.1 final very soon )

- 10.3 beta coming soon, so possibly a 10.3 JB could follow, but that would be a long ways out

That is a lot of ifs and maybes.

Unfortunately that's the current state of any possible stable JB release. Doesn't sound too promising.

Only two possible outcomes;

- Luca fixes the bugs and releases the gamma 10.1.1 JB version. But from his tweets doesn't sound like that's happening anytime soon though.

- We get lucky and a miracle release from the Chinese hackers come out with a 10.2 stable JB. But that's purely rumors and zero info to back that up
