I'm semi new to JB (I jailbroke on iOS 4 and this past year on iOS 9) and I have a few questions.. some I'm just looking for opinions on as I know no one knows when a stable JB will happen or if it will be for 10.1.1 or 10.2. No need to remind me no one knows, just looking for opinions on anything related to that.. like a "what would you do?" Type thing.

I have an iPad Pro 9.7 inch that is unfortunately on 10.2. My phone is a 6Plus. My 6+ is jail broken on 9.0.2. I'd LOVE to get my phone to iOS 10 for its features and to get a more stable version of the music app/Apple Music. But I know that's not going to happen right now. The only tweaks i care about on my phone are the Snapchat tweaks like phantom and ++Snapchat. Someone in this thread mentioned that these things can be sideloaded. Again, I don't use visual tweaks at all. I've never sideloaded. Is this somewhat safe to do on a non jail broken phone? If so I'd like to upgrade my phone to 10.2 (since that's All I can JB too obviously) for all the new iOS 10 stuff and then just sideload the Snapchat tweaks that I need/want. Is this a viable option? Where can I find info on sideloading? I have am iPad Air 1 that's jail broke on 9.3.3 that I'm happy to leave there since I have the pro on 10.2. Plus I have kodi on it which I use often. Can someone help me, guide me, or give me suggestions? The ideal situation would be for me to upgrade my iPhone 6+ to 10.2, sideload the Snapchat tweaks, then if and when a 10.2 jailbreak ever happens, rejailbreak it then. Does this make sense to anyone?

Well, from what I've read and all the chaos that blew up on jailbreak Reddit, snapchat updated their 3rd party detection to be much more aggressive. Very slim possibility of a side loaded version. I think the jailbreak version was finally updated to combat the issue after almost 3 weeks

Would it have been better if Luca didn't release anything at last month, kept quiet, and just waited until he had a stable JB release in a few weeks or month from now, and then just release it once ?

Or by releasing an early build, is he hoping developers can at least update their tweaks and and get stuff working behind the scenes, so when he does release the stable build, most the Cydia tweaks will already be updated and working on iOS 10 ?

Considering iOS 10.2 was already out, it was only a matter of time before iOS 10.1.1 stopped being signed. I think if he kept quiet, many people would've just updated to 10.2

First part, correct, it has no priority.

Second part, self invented rumor for Pangu as Pangu rarely gives out information and nothing was said by them.
Especially Reddit is rampant with wild speculation.

Patience.... and never rush with jailbreaks, for instance I held off because all too uncertain and looked like semi-tether again, also longtime posters like AJ were hesitant, if the regulars here are confident and are updating then it is time.

I'm glad I stayed on 9.3.3. I was uncertain about the 10.1.1 jailbreak (since it was just words at the time and I was iffy about whether it was real or just Reddit hype). I probably would've updated to 10.1.1 if the beta jailbreak was released at that time. Heard about Prometheus not too long after and definitely thought 9.3.3 was the better option for those currently jailbroken

But now that Prometheus is released and we find out Touch ID doesn't work because of SEP and firmware mismatch, looks like I'm staying on 9.3.3 for now. I just hope apps don't start becoming iOS 10+ requirement!

I decided to give the iOS 10.1.1 jailbreak a go and was surprised I could get this many tweaks to work already. It is a little bit of a pain getting it to boot back into the jailbroken state when respringing doesn't work properly the first time.

How would you say the whole process went as far as ease goes? Are you pretty experienced as far as SSH and terminal access go?

Didn't have to use SSH or Terminal. Just used Cydia Impactor to install the mach_portal and Cydia apps. I think a lot has been fine tuned since the original post.

I do have experience using SSH and Terminal and was prepared to do so if necessary though.

Is there a better place than twitter to check for official updates? Just curious as I don't really use twitter. His website obviously gets the updated software when that happens, i am just curious about updates from the Dev.

Seems this is one of the messier jailbreak "releases" even tho it was intended for devs only.

Luca is now saying substrate fix or running substrate enable command and loading up tweaks may be problematic to go to stable Yalu jb and hinder him wanting to release a stable jb

Lots of people myself included made that leap. If I have to stay on b3 until next jb on next iOS hopefully signed version so be it.

Also stay the hell away from yucca stashing.
Same repo as substrate fix but it's some custom voodoo and saurik wiped his hands clean from support associated with that one

Tl;dr some drama some technical complications certain headaches uncertain future

Those Twitter comments, poor guy Luca just getting roasted by some and thanked and grateful by others. Can't win.

He's damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't.

I guess maybe he shouldn't have released the beta period in my opinion. Either release a more stable JB from the start even if that meant a February release, or not release anything at all to avoid this confusion and mess.

With his alpha JB as it is, can you install tweaks like icon packs ? Pixel Launcher from the 9.3.3 JB ? Google search widget ?

This lengthy read from saurik is worthwhile-

Apparently he postponed and almost missed picking up his CES badge to clear the air on it

Good guy saurik

^ haven't and won't try that sorry. I have stability relatively on my 7Plus and don't wanna mess it up

After activator I'm all set.

Saurik made some great points, I agree 100% with

- FWIW, the way I finally "came to terms with this" is to simply not release anything until it really really works and it is really really required. It turns out that that's what most iPhone users want anyway: they are used to a company which keeps everything extremely secret until they announce a fully-fledged and totally streamlined product in a polished hour long presentation at a press conference.

Does this mean I sit on a lot of stuff? Yep. I don't even push the source code for updates I make to things until I'm ready with the final working package, as if I did, the next day I'd see on reddit "add this repository to get some half-working feature from saurik that I found and compiled; let's all start piling on him with our issues and complaints". I essentially keep everything I do extremely secret now.

And this one I was thinking of, before I read it, that the Jailbreak crowd needs an XDA developer type forum, for just closed professional JB developers only not meant for the general public, and I guess there was one like that years ago.

- The way this used to work under the iPhone Dev Team was essentially a core community of extremely trusted developers who were in charge of all of the major packages got the jailbreak a week early, but there are tons of reasons why that no longer works (if nothing else, there are almost no developers who are active in the community that I would personally trust with anything anymore).

That was an awesome post from saurik hadn't seen that, thanks again for posting

I greatly admire Luca and the Prometheus guy too in spite of the releases being less than ideal. I can't think of anything I would have done differently had I been in their shoes. Aside from not releasing at all, but I'm not sure we users really want that eh? :p

That reddit thread makes it sounds like JB'ing may be dead now, and don't get our hopes up of any new Jailbreak coming anytime soon. And if it does, it will come as a total surprise out of the blue, and that's if we're lucky.

Too bad this JB'ing stuff isn't like Rooting and ROM'ing on Android, with a great development community like XDA. And I just bought my new Silver iPhone 7 Plus for Christmas, purposely getting one on 10.1.1. Looks like I may go back to Android then, once Pixel XL 128GB's come back in stock in two months.

Oh well, I was pumped to run a JB 7 Plus, looks like that's not happening :(

...jail broken on 9.0.2. I'd LOVE to get my phone to iOS 10 for its features...

That's where I'm at right now too. I only want free PandoraOne and Spotify...that's it. Only if I can get those without a jailbreak

I still think their will be a stable jailbreak just nobody other than the team developing and possibly saurik knows. I'm still jailbroken on 9.0 I just don't pay attention to the jailbreak scene until a jailbreak is released. Nothing really happens in between jailbreak releases.

Spotify is only $9.99 a month or 4.99$ if you're a student. Is saving those couple of dollars a month really worth it to you?

Awesome, thanks! Can you suggest places I could possibly trust for IPA's?

I hate to say this but you're correct. The few I trusted stopped jailbreaking awhile ago.

I tend to think this too, to be honest

its all good tho, things will come along one way or another. I'm hopeful, but id say we're getting towards the end of jailbreak era,

Ok i succeeded jailbreake my 6s with iOS 10.1.1 and the TSMC Chip, so I want to ask, is there a tweak the prevent my iPhone not to remember me that there is a update to 10.2
Sometimes my phone is download it to, then I have to delete it from store.

Activator is pretty broken but with rocket bootstrap update I was able to get volume buttons mapped to change tracks on lock screen like a CD player. Woo.the main thing I care about from activator

Aside from refinement I am all set on tweaks

Well this just sucks. My guess is, if we get any JB at all for iOS 10, it won't be until after 10.3 is out of beta and officially released by Apple sometime in late Feb / early March. So at the earliest I would think, we may see a 10.3 JB is March / April time frame, and if nothing at that point, I'm afraid the JB scene might be dead and ancient history.
