With the 2 RC releases today (WatchOS 7.1 & tvOS 14.2), that seems to back my theory up that iOS 14.2’s RC release was meant to be this week & was brought forward for the emergency fix.

Since Apple usually likes to give Devs a week to test (apart from the 14.0 debacle), then I’d be surprised to see any public release this week.

I can see them releasing 14.2 alongside macOS Big Sur after the event next week. Big Sur has the new Mojave/Catalina/Big Sur location wallpapers that match the new wallpapers in 14.2

Supposedly Big Sur is coming on the day after the event, but personally, I would expect it the day of the event.

Interestingly though, we haven't had the GM/RC of Big Sur yet. If we don't get that in the next couple days, then the RC/GM will come the day of the event.

After today's RC releases, I'm with you on that. Next week we might see the official 14.2 release.

There are, imho, only 2 possible reasons why we haven‘t had a GM/RC for Big Sur yet:
- Beta 10 is the GM/RC (11.0.1 being the hotfix release after GM/RC)
- Beta 11/GM/RC contains traces of secret sauce feature sets for the AS Macbooks, just like they hid 14.1 from the public due to the new iPhones etc.

The latter would explain why 11.0.1 seems like a cluster**** of a release... because it lacks substantial parts of the final 11.0 release due to AS Mac surprises.

I still think that there is still a possibility, a small chance that it ios 14.2 and watchos 7.1 will be released this week. Any day this week, else, apple will not announce via news room (apple korea page) the ECG functionality for South Korea if they need to wait a week or two to get it. The hype will go down. i can understand for other countries if they waited longer. but this is South Korea, home of Samsung (where apple is trying to penetrate the market and also where the competitors smart watch already has ecg)

This is why I am not sold on us seeing a GM/RC this week and that it will come out the day of the event (after it). I am not saying I don't want it this week, am just saying I like 80/20 for next week/this week.

There was talk that public release of Big Sur was to be the 18th November, but then that was when the 17th was being said for the event, which we now know is the 10th. I'm not sure if the source for public release on the 18th was the same as the event, or if different sources.

I vote option #2. Hopefully some "Touch" stuff in there!

For some reason I can’t find a solid answer to this, do we have a beta of 14.2 for HomePod that is known? Trying to figure out when everything drops if an update will be coming.

HomePod betas are only available by special invite through appleseed. Yes, there has been 3 or 4 14.2 beta releases for HomePod already. I expect HomePod 14.2 will release to public around the same time as 14.2 for iOS.

Thanks, exactly what I was looking for.

I’ve been on 14.2 for the HomePods for a few betas now and the recent tvOS RC fixed a lot of the issues I was having.

Why are you guys so concerned about the official release tho?

Having the 14.2 RC is basically the official release earlier. So nothing's gonna change for us no matter when Apple releases to the public.

"RC" means Release Candidate. That means it is a candidate for release subject to no major bugs found that need to be squashed.

This sounds stupid but there's one small reason I want an official release. The daycare that my wife and I use has an app. It's a piece of **** all around, but w/ a recent update they put out, it places interactive content into the corners of the screen on the iPhone X-type devices (devices w/ no home button). I can't really bring it up as an issue since I am on a beta, but once it becomes a full release, it sort of forces their hand into fixing it.

Has there been a lot of animosity with the Dev of the app? (most, in my experience, appreciate a heads up that the next rev of the platform has detrimental impacts on their app).

Animosity is one way to put it lol. I have pointed out issues in the app that have not been resolved in over a year. And I am not talking about major groundbreaking changes. Things like truncated text in buttons, inability to close media viewers in some instances, etc. I am an iOS developer myself, so I think I have a reasonable understanding of the scope of some of the changes. That being said, I can say with decent confidence that they are using some cross-platform SDK like React Native, which adds a whole level of terrible experiences to the app.

edit: and any communication is usually met with "these things are on our roadmap to address". Their roadmap must lead to a brick wall, because they haven't fixed anything.
