Encountered a new issue yesterday, when I proof-read an essay on the run and took screens (with highlighting etc) to send via text messages. After a handful of screens (not close to each other, sometimes minutes between screens) the little screen thumbnail in the bottom left became stuck and wouldn't react to my swipe or touch and also block new screenshots from happening. Then after 1-2 minutes any screenshot button presses during the "deadlock" came rushing in, creating a lot of screens and the screenshot editor came up (presumably due to me touching the thumbnail a few times during the deadlock).

This is the first time I'm experiencing such an issue and I don't know if it's tied to 14.2 or a general iOS 14 problem (because this was the first time I actually took loads of screenshots).

(Yes, I sent a report in the feedback app)

Apple have a schedule for public releases and they stick to it. The RC for 14.2 was meant to be this week (as evidenced by the WatchOS & tvOS RC releases yesterday). It only came out Friday due to the emergency fix due to the massive 'a new update is available' bug that was happening every 5 minutes.

Therefore, if the public release is next week, as it appears that it was intended, then that's what will happen. Don't forget (with the 1 off incident of 14.0), there's usually 1 week between GM & public release.

Why are you guys so concerned about the official release tho?

Having the 14.2 RC is basically the official release earlier. So nothing's gonna change for us no matter when Apple releases to the public.
Not everyone runs beta software. Some use beta software after a bit of maturity.

Also, if you are running a beta version of iOS, you can't get Apple Support if something is going on with your phone, even if it has nothing to do with the actual OS. You usually can't get other app support from devs if you are running a beta OS.

There are reasons.

Not true. You can absolutely get support from Apple while running a beta. Done it many times. Do you have anything to support this claim?

This sounds stupid but there's one small reason I want an official release. The daycare that my wife and I use has an app. It's a piece of **** all around, but w/ a recent update they put out, it places interactive content into the corners of the screen on the iPhone X-type devices (devices w/ no home button). I can't really bring it up as an issue since I am on a beta, but once it becomes a full release, it sort of forces their hand into fixing it.
Do you both use 14.2 beta? Does it do this on 14.1 (or earlier) too?

Yes. On three separate occasions over the years, as soon as i answer their question as to what iOS version I’m running, they tell me that they only support official releases. You may be able to get support from software engineers working on the beta versions, but it’s not common.

I have...just today Apple refused support for my apple watch 6...they even sent me the part of the terms and conditions where it clearly states that they don't have to offer support if it is not clear that it is a hardware problem...even so they can refuse. My watch does not record the heart rate properly and even it had the same problem with the official ios...they still refused.

And why wouldn’t your Apple Watch 6 be covered as a warranty item? Not even 2 months old yet.

Out of the 6 support incidents I had, 5 were on beta releases and no one in the Apple Store or the support hotline cared. They tell you that it could be caused by beta software but don‘t refuse to give support or handle my case.

Because it has beta installed...it says clearly in the TC of the beta program.
WatchOS should be released soon so I'd just wait it out until it releases. If you're still having issues with reading your heart rate, then contact apple support again and don't mention you were on the betas at all.

This what I actually agreed with Apple Support...you dont have to mention the beta but they know as they test your watch remotely.

Handle a case is different than arranging a swap which they will not do it.

Oh... you should have uninstalled it and never say to Apple if you have beta installed.

Can we stop with the OT talk about Tech support for Apple Watch and get back to the iOS 14 speculation? @cdcdoc create a thread to discuss this in the Apple Watch forum.
Hall monitor! ?. jk

I was really hoping for 14.2 yesterday, but it looks like maybe next week. Though, it seems weird NOT to release it this week. But we’re already at Thursday, so...

I’m noticing a stutter on my 12 Pro and hoping the next iOS version will fix it.

A release this week was unlikely, as RC was meant to be out this week, as per the RC's for tvOS & WatchOS (the latter usually released alongside the iPhone update). The only reason we got the RC for 14.2 on Friday was due to the emergency fix for the 'An update is available' notification popping up every 5 minutes.

Apple have a release date in mind, and that won't change, unless it drastically has to.
