Am I being overly pessimistic or is this thread (and reddit) already filled to the brim with complaints in all directions after not even one day of usage on 18.2 GM, that is different build than RC1 and 2. Not that complaints have never existed before, but this is quite a bit of oddities.

This is embarrassing stuff for Apple IMO, I don't think I've seen it this bad any time recently. Not confidence instilling for the company.

...For what it's worth, I maintain that 18.0 is a nice release even with its shortcomings for x.0 far from the worst of those kind. But it seems like they keep fumbling with follow up updates. Shocking stuff
You can also update to 18.1.1. My experience, it’s rock solid version both on iPhone and iPad.

Sorry , im not saying that people having issues with RC1 and 2. I agree, with RC and beta you roll the dice.

I'm saying, lots of people reporting immediately observable issues after installing 18.2 final from yesterday, which isn't even RC1 or 2 build.

I don't doubt that some people do have great experiences on 18.2 With their device, but I'm also seeing a tidal wave of continued grievances. anecdotally - not speaking from my own personal experience I haven't made the move.

Really not having any issues here.

Taking even anecdotes from an install base of over a billion devices can seem tsunami-like. Until you realize that even if a million people are complaining of issues, that’s only 1/10th of 1% of the user base.

How did you install the IPSW?

I don’t expect the iOS update itself to fix the app, but the app itself has been updated more recently than 2022. I have seen it appear in windows store updates before. Of course the question is whether or not those updates have done anything of value - we won’t know unless someone tries and reports in, because Apple isn’t going to put a banner on their website saying “Hi, just FYI our software is still horribly broken and WILL brick your iPhone if you attempt to use it”

I did OTA this time around, and will do it again on Saturday for the newest build. I’m just interested in whether or not the issues have been fixed instead of ignoring them and pretending they don’t exist. How will I know if I don’t ask?
Oh and BTW you can still download iTunes (get it from Apple not the Microsoft store), and it works just fine if you don't want to OTA update and use IPSW files instead.

That’s definitely great! But Apple should really fix their software, or issue a warning, or just pull it from distribution. Anything would be better than the current situation in which they are directing their customers to install and use officially provided software that WILL brick their device.

NO EMAIL ON WIFI -- Upgraded to 18.2 and now my email doesn't show emails but it shows that they are downloading forever. It takes 4-5 min to download emails, if they download at all. This only happens when connected to WiFi and ONLY for receiving (SMTP server not affected). If I disconnect from WiFi, all of my emails load as they should (almost immediately). I can send emails on WiFi and they send, but just not receive on my iPhone.
Not sure what the connection to Wifi is...wish I never updated :(

I'd reset network settings.

No seeing any major battery drain or bugs on my 16 PM after a couple of days. Every once in a while autocorrect seems to cause some slight delay in typing but I can’t tie it to anything specific.
Surprisingly, so far Image Playground is not the battery hog I thought it would be. Mail app using iCloud and Exchange (set to Fetch every hour) seems to be smooth here.

18.2 has been decent for me so far but Mail seems a little weird with sorting.

It kind of seems like they might not be recommending it anymore. It's not mentioned on this help article which links to the second which suggests only iTunes.

The iOS 18 user guide also only mentions iTunes for Windows users: https://support.apple.com/en-us/guide/iphone/iph3e504502/ios

Very good to know, I still don’t think software this broken should be available for download at all but this is definitely a step in the right direction

Apple has made some weird decisions lately. They've also updated the support docs for the iPhone camera, which now says that you can no longer use a drive formatted in APFS format for recording ProRes video from the iPhone camera. Have to use Exfat now. Boggles the mind how Apple apparently can't support their own drive format in ios18  😆

Apple Devices still is bricking IPSW install for 18.2, also tried 18.1.1 and bricked also. So it seems it's not capable of installing all iOS 18. Yesterday 12/12/2024, apple released a new Apple Devices app 1.5.2.58 (1.1282.14849.0) but I didn't want to try it.

Good afternoon. Safari error. iOS 18.2 iPhone 14 Pro Max. Safari has background wallpapers. As soon as you close the browser and open it again, the image disappears for a second, a black background appears and then the image appears. Who has it? Or am I the only one so lucky?

When going into the Find My settings via Settings app (Settings > Apple Account > Find My), I get the following prompt:

Once I back out and go back in, I no longer get the prompt.

Anyone else seeing this?

I get a similar issue. I block iCloud private relay on my wifi network. If I unblock this in my firewall my email downloads instantly. For some reason email app needs to access mask.icloud.com in order to download under 18.2. Hoping this is a bug as enabling this bypasses my dns adblocker.

Did you enable "Privacy protection" in Mail settings? That's what causes it to go through mask.icloud.com, as far as I know. If you disable it, you should be fine.

This setting on or off (and full reboots in between) made no difference for me unfortunately.

Thank you for taking one for the team and trying. Have to wonder what they even accomplished with yesterdays update then!

Visual Intelligence barely works for me. When I hold down the Camera Control button, I get an animation with a black box that comes out then immediately retreats. Every now and then it will actually work, but seems like it never works when I actually need or want it to.

Are you running Windows 11 and if so, 23H2 or 24H2?

Playing with my 15PM camera this morning. Taking a couple of shots of my Xmas tree. (Photo attached)
Using the Main Camera, it had a lot of difficulty focusing to take a clean photo.

Fun part, when looking at the photo, the plant identifier said it was a Viper’s Bugloss.
It’s a flocked Blue Spruce.
