Got the same problem as everyone. I had to connect to iTunes (updated iTunes before the OTA update to iPhone). It proceeded to download the ipsw. I then disconnected my phone while downloading because of some error. Once it finished reconnected and picked update from the options. The Update was successful, NO data lost. Hope this relieves some worries.

Plug into your computer, open iTunes, and update the software as it says. We all experienced the same and experienced zero data loss.
Is the update 2.47 GB and a hour long? Cuz i just cancelled that update, cause i thought it was bad.

Can't risk unreliability under current circumstances. Update is showing 2 hours remaining. That isn't good enough.

Sorry Apple, lost one here.

Damn... I am so mad! I have bricked my iPhone6S plus to DFU mode. I thought I''l update before I go to work, to check new features when on break... now I have not working brick for a phone that I need for work! Thanks Apple You ****ed UP BIG TIME!!!!!! Now I am late and cant use phone at all.

I dont have a computer to install this peace of **** software (iTunes, I never use it!) that has huge background services and slows a computer down even if not using itunes... (and erases your phone if you reinstall windows)

Still mad they got rid of that 3,5mm port for iphone7, that they called bravery to do... :(
No offense but if I depended on my phone for work, I wouldn't have risked updating ASAP given problems there have been in the past with updates. Sorry that it didn't work and you have every right to be angry...this shouldn't happen from a world class company. I already get enough grief from my friends about non-being an Android guy and I'm sure they'll not forget this soon. Mine is in the middle of updating...fingers crossed.

iPhone needed connecting to computer, but an iPad which was apparently frozen just needed power cycled and the final install process kicked in.

Took me about 8 minutes to download. Your mileage may vary.

Any way i can see the progress of the download in iTunes? How long does it take?
I have FiOS internet and it took me approximately 8 minutes to download iOS 10 from iTunes. I am on the east coast, FWIW.

Most people don't have itunes or computer to install it on (or dont want to).... this is madness...

Microsoft Windows could install in massive number of computers new ****** Windows and Apple cant even update few hardware that they made themselves. This is very huge mess-up... I hope someone gets fired for that.

Waiting for a big apology from Apple

On the other hand, there are not so many diffrent phones or tablets who get the update and the beta was out for months. So you could imagine it should work on first try when the new os was made public.

I think that such a failure should not happen, and it is not the customers job to prepare for the update.

Complete the update via iTunes and you'll be back up and running.

Agree but there's a measure of due diligence to be exercised like doing a backup before and if the phone being available is uber important, at least waiting a bit to see if any issues start trending. Plan for the worst and hope for the best.
Hey, at least they aren't catching fire!

The phone is showing itunes icon and a cable.

connect to iTunes, the 'update' option worked for me but other have had to restore, then just let it do its thing. The phone will restart, the screen may just go black for a bit, this is normal.

Concur. It does take a certain level of courage to update without having an immediate fallback plan.

Its updating to ios 10 now via the itunes. I hope everything works well. If my phone is ****ed after, ill just do a fresh ios install and wait a couple of days before getting ios 10.

If you do need to connect to your computer, remember to update iTunes first as that version supports iOS 10...

I expect some bugs in new software. But I expect, from a company like Apple who controls all the hardware, that at least the update will work.

I did it via itunes for my IPP 12.9". Hung at the very end. Disconnected and immediately the screen on the IPP said to push Home button. It then completed the upgrade just fine.

Damned long process though.

True, I just ensure my nightly backups are current, worse case I only lose anything from the morning. That said it looks like Apple has acknowledged and fixed the issue.
