Ps I'm in the UK :)

So does anywhere in the UK have the 2.8GHz model in stock, or is it only available to order online? Just a bit confused as to why the delivery time seems so long for that particular model and would be keen to try and pick one up here instead if possible.

Wooooo!

Just got home from work and my imac was waiting. im writing on it now and its ace! the whole design is much better in real life, its really sleek and modern. really really love it.

Although my iMac is due for delivery on the 21st or 22nd of August I noticed that my order status now says 'Prepared for Shipment'. Maybe I'll get it earlier??

+1 new iMac here in Aberdeen, Scotland. Arrived late Thursday evening at around 20:00. Man, this thing is stunning and delivery within 48 hours is just amazing.

I just might post pics later if you want...

Please do David. Also, how are you getting along with the glossy screen? Is it distracting in any way?

I'm not finding the screen distracting on my new 24" - you do get used to it very quickly. It's capable of being a lot brighter than my 20". I've got it on 'half brightness' according to the OSD - the 20" had to be at full or almost full brightness to be comfortable. Also noticed the speakers are a LOT louder if you want them to be!

I'm selling my previous 20" Core 2 Duo on Ebay - will be interesting to see what I get for it. I was wondering about whether to keep the wireless mighty mouse, but to be honest I find right-clicking on the corded on works a damn sight better than it ever did on the wireless version - but then I AM left handed!!

Would be interested to hear from the guy who bought his memory from Ebuyer - is it working ok? I've previously had problems with Mac memory so tend to go for Premium stuff - I bought a 2GB stick of Kingston premium memory as the Crucial website was out of stock.

And to the guy asking about UK keyboards - my new slim keyboard has a £ sign above the 3 key as expected.

Will be interesting to hear how much you actually spent on the new computer taking into account the cost of selling the old one.

Also can you confirm what the exposé button does and if you have to use the fn key (if there is such a thing) or post a screenshot of the system preference i showed a page or two back.

I'll no doubt have spent too much, but we'll see how the eBay auction does first! (eBay )
The fn keys works as the symbols (expose, play, pause etc) without any other key, and as function keys when you press the fn key with them. The system preference pane is identical to your pic.

I ordered mine at 9am Wednesday morning and it change to 'prepared for shipment' this morning. I have the same shipping date of the 15th as you but estimate date for delivery is 21st-22nd. I think they're all ballpark dates anyway.

Looks like the 2.8s are taking longer than the rest to ship. I ordered mine on Wednesday morning and it has the same shipping details as yours.

Our local Apple reseller has demo models in store now, but no stock to sell unfortunately.

KRCS only has the 24" on display; my friend on the Leeds side of things went and checked it out.

Well I got mine and I'm afraid to say I'm not happy with it. I had the previous 24" model before and I absolutely loved it. This new model, at least the one I have, has quite a few negative points though.

Firstly, the glossy screen. I thought it'd be okay but sitting at my desk with the window behind me the reflections make it unusable even although the sun isn't in front of the window. In fact, it's a pretty gloomy day. I closed my curtains and it's manageable now but the reflections are still quite annoying and distracting.

Secondly, either this model has a noisy fan or my fan is faulty. Either way, my iMac is making an annoying sort of thuddy clicking noisy. It's not very loud, but definitely noticeable.

Thirdly, the screen has a definite flicker that is subtle but annoying.

Finally, my unit arrived with a tiny scratch on the glass. I've already called and they've arranged to send out a replacement because of this. However, the other three points make me wonder if I should bother getting another one.

I'm really disappointed with this iMac. I've owned a 20" iMac, the previous 24" iMac, two PowerBooks, a MacBook, and three MacBook Pros, and I can honestly say that this iMac is the worst Mac I've ever received. The fan is noisy, the screen flickers, the extreme glossiness makes reflections a pain and, to top it all, it arrived damaged.

By the way, I do like the design and see it as an improvement. It looks far more professional and matches my MacBook Pro.

What a shame Maverick :(

Hope you get it sorted out... any chance you could post some pics of the glare? (not to accentuate it just to show it from your regular point of view).

I take it you're not going to install your 4gb of ram?

I'm not going to bother installing the RAM. When I called Apple they agreed to let me keep the machine until the new one arrived but with the scratch, noisy fan and screen flicker it's just too annoying so I told them I don't care about keeping it and just pick it up as soon as they can.

Let me just say that I don't hate everything about the machine. I love the new design and the keyboard is so much better than the previous ones. I can type pretty fast (over 100wpm) but I always felt the white Mac keyboard was fighting me a bit. The new one is amazing and I can type significantly faster on it. If the machine was quiet, and the screen didn't flicker, and there was a matte screen option, then this machine would be the BEST Mac I've ever had. As it is, the one I have just now is undoubtedly the worst.

I took some pics with the curtain open and the curtain closed so you can see the reflections. Either way it's bad. I tried to take most of the pics straight on so you can see exactly what I see. I also took a pic out the window, you can see that it's quite overcast... it's another dull day here in Falkirk. The pics are at http://gallery.mac.com/marekbell/100008 if you want to take a look.

I think the glossy screen will definately require some people to think about moving their computer setup - I'm lucky in that the room I will put mine in is quite dark and doesn't have any lighting I can think of that will cause problems.

Regarding the noise, scratched glass and flickering screen, I'd say that was just pure bad luck BUT I wonder if they are all related? An LCD flicker sounds like a dodgy backlight or light/screen cable. The noise could be the fan not seated properly or damaged in some way, and the scratched screen could be evidence that the machine got a fairly severe knock (which may also have caused the other problems).

While I'm sure everything will be ok with the replacement, the glossy screen will still be an issue for you. You're going to need to rethink your computer area!
