Both of you are really defensive when someone mentions apple gimping the retina display - gimping is a good term because that's what they did, purely for profits.

No, I'm responding to your ridiculous accusations. I'm not defensive because I own both and am very happy with both. I don't have gamut gimping issues. You seem to, though.

...They CLEARLY KNOW WHAT THEY DID WITH THE IPAD MINI RETINA'S DISPLAY.

The fact you don't get this is just mind boggling. I know the device is the perfect device in size and weight but the fact is they GIMPED this retina display. Just admit to it and you won't be called out for being an apple apologist. They (apple) don't deserve the credit because they purely cut corners.

Ummmm, LOL!

Clearly, you know so much about the internal workings of Apple that it is pointless to argue with you. Call me out all you want. If you think that will deter me, then you are making a habit of being wrong.

The fact Apple made $7.5B in profit last quarter just proves the lameness of your argument. They not only deserve credit for creating awesome devices, they GET credit with every one of the 170 MILLION iPads they've sold (before this launch). So I will wear the Apple apologist label proudly. I don't get paid by Apple, heck, not even a discount, but what is right is right, and what is wrong (mainly you) is, well, wrong.

They are wrong if they say there's "nothing wrong with the display". Maybe saying "there's something wrong, but I like it anyway" would be more accurate.

Do I have to admit that something is wrong with the iPhone 5 display because it's only 4" and most competitors are offering 5"+? Maybe I like the 4" form factor better?

Maybe I think the Air screen burns my retinas because the colors are too bright. Does that mean I still have to admit something is wrong with the screen?

My 11" MacBook only has 5 hour battery life. They probably could have made it 6 if they really wanted to. Do I need to admit something is wrong with the battery life of my MacBook?

This nonsense could go on for eons. Why does it bother you so much that some people just don't care about this stuff?

Can you link me to the part of the iPad mini with Retina Display technical specifications where 100% color gamut is listed as a feature?

Thanks in advance.

Can you link me to anything that says the iPad Air will support a 100% color gamut? No? I can source all kinds of information from Apple directly boasting the same internals in a smaller form factor, however!

Oh wow, you just can't stand anybody saying anything bad about Apple's devices, can you?

LOL! Do you remember the iPhone launch? They didn't have copy and paste.

COPY AND PASTE for crying out loud? Talk about GIMPED.

There is that, and then there is this faux controversy about gamut. What I can't stand is people talking smack. There is a difference.

Of course I did - I yearned so badly for retina display too did you not read that either? At the end, it went back and iPad 4 was bought. my points are exactly the same as in my previous posts - can't pay for old generation technology, just can't do it. Now this time around, they do the same gimping - except it' the screen which is so important to me.

This time it ain't old gen technology. It isn't a big upgrade over the prior Mini? It doesn't cost $100 less than the Air? It isn't smaller and more portable? I guess one cannot even say it is "gimped" either with the color because it is the same as the prior mini. I think it much more a better buy than $329 was on the prior one so .....

So you missed the point. People made up this gamut thing, and its like me crying because the iPad doesn't have an SD card slot.

But, but, but - I wanted one! Wahhhhhhh!

The same sort of shady business practices can be seen in their price ladder for storage capacities. In a tear down, it was found that the Air is actually cheaper to manufacture than the iPad 4, and the most expensive Air to Apple is somewhere around $300. They charge customers in $100 increments for storage that costs them maybe $10. At the very least, they could offer 32 GB as the baseline model, or charge $50-$75 for each ascending configuration, but no. How are they able to dupe so many people? Because their offering is unique, and because they have a halo over their head.

A faux controversy about people paying 400$ for a product that doesn't display color as well as a 230$ product?

Yep, all made up.

The iPhone still doesn't have quick-reply for text messages. You have to into the Messages app to respond to someone. BiteSMS has been able to do this on the iPhone for 5 years. It's pathetic on Apple's part that they haven't enabled this in iOS 7.

Right, but I'm just an Apple apologist.

There's a difference between size and, ya know, color accuracy. One of them doesn't really matter, the other is color accuracy.

Right - because when paying money for a tablet, that's ALL I'm paying for - whether or not the tablet displays a wide color gamut....

Holy crap - close this thread please. I've never read such idiotic nonsense.....

Or how about because the market has dictated that $100 to double-up storage is acceptable?

Don't like it, don't buy it, but the majority has spoken.

Why is that a controversy? Where does it say that every single spec has to be better? So what? If the iPad Mini displayed the entire color gamut it would suddenly be worth $400? Or $170 more?

Yes, FAUX.

Got news pal - colors ARE accurate on the iPad mini. The gamut is simply small. And to some of us (who don't wander around with two displays side-by-side comparing) the size of the tablet DOES matter.

That's ok. Wear your label with pride! :D I'd rather apolgize for Apple since that is the easiest job on the planet. Nothing to apologize for. Rather than cry over a made up feature on a product that will sell MILLIONS. Talk about swimming upstream!

And I thought the other threads on this topic were awful.....lol these jokers have brought it to a whole new level. Such conviction to their stories. Gotta give them credit!

seriously guys, what color do you see this on your $400 iPad mini retina's display??

It's only worth as much as you're willing to pay.

That being said, I really don't see why people are rushing to the defense of a tablet that has a poor color gamut. That's something that people blasted the Surface RT for, why should the rMini get a pass?

If the size of the tablet matters most, why not get a Nexus 7? Or a Kindle Fire HDX?

I didnt miss your point. Mine went over your head. Fox News isnt relevant in the tech world. Has nothing to do with political affiliations or beliefs.

I was referring to the NON tech world in the post I made rattling off major media outlets.

THAT is the part you didn't get.

No need for insults.

Do you need help reading? Nowhere in that post did they say size mattered MOST to them, but nice job putting words in their mouth.

I don't need help reading, thank you very much. I could sum up the majority of the posts I've been responding to quite easily

"I don't care much about the color gamut, ergo nobody should."

Don't bother responding - they will see "orange" instead of "red" kool-aid. Helps a lot so they can sleep at night knowing they didn't get a gimped retina display.

This made me laugh. As if the average people with barely an understanding of "the cloud," who compose most of Apple's audience, have "spoken" a unanimous agreement of this storage mark-up. Apple is one of the richest companies on the planet, and they're only benefitting from people's ignorance.

Nexus 7 - Had one, didn't like the form factor (bezels and thickness) and the lack of tablet optimized apps killed the experience for me.

Kindle Fire HDX - Apple ecosystem, form factor - larger display

Not everything is numbers on a piece of paper......see there are those of us who buy something because we ENJOY USING IT. To me, paying $499 for my 32 GB retina mini that I use CONSTANTLY versus paying $269 for a Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire that would sit in my drawer offers a better value.

Sure - would it be great if the mini had the gamut the Air does? Of course. The Air is absolutely stunning. But I made a choice - I decided that for $100 less, I preferred the overall form factor of the retina mini and was fine with the less brilliant display.

To me it's no contest. And no amount of specs could change that. I tried the Nexus 7 - and I really do like Android on a phone - but on a tablet? The experience didn't compare IMO.

I don't buy my tablets to win some spec war on the internet. I buy my tablets based on my preferences and use case.
