Guys!

I've been offline for the past five hours because I CAN'T GET THE DAMN DRIVERS TO WORK FOR MY 3870X2 ON VISTA!!!! RRGGGHHHH!!!!

Anyone know how? I boot up and the video is all garbled, it says it installed the software, restarts, and then I'm in an ENDLESS F*CKING BOOT LOOP.

LOL. My graphics card and power supply cost more than that.

If you want to make it a pissing contest, my videocard or my case or my ram or my cooling system or my hdds all EACH cost more than that(and my mobo comes close, so does my CPU). At least he is getting a machine, that's what is important.

@iMpathetic: What version of catalyst are you using? Have you tried tossing another videocard in there to see if it does the same. Also, are you doing a clean install(new install of Windows) or just layering it on top? If you are just layering: make sure you removed the old drivers or you are borked.

Well, I freshly installed Vista Ultimate, then tried the drivers, and no display after the little screen where it says "Microsoft Corporation" and the little swoosh thing. Just a blank backlit screen.

Then I stuck an 8600GTS in the primary slot and re-downloaded and installed the drivers with the X2 in the secondary, wiping first, of course. To no avail. Windows said it was installing drivers, not Catalyst, which was b*tching about the display driver not matching, even though everything was from the same damn 8.1 package.

That's where I am now. I could D/L the 9.4 package or just throw the X2 in the trash and use the 8600GTS, but then I'd have to fight with OS X to get it working.

Before installing catalyst you have video though right?

If you're still having trouble, I can help you live over irc:

I have very garbled 640x480 4 bit video. And I think I'm on IRC.

Good news! Thanks to the advice I got from N1451 and everyone else, it is now working, but I had to stay up to 2 AM to get it working. Tried safe mode, increasing voltages, switching cables on the PSU, different slots, blah blah blah, 2 reinstalls, and it finally worked.

So messy, but I might finally be able to get my case out to the powder coaters monday(still waiting on my dad to bring me a drill and pick up his new computer).
Who manufacture those motherboards?

I am thinking of building a i7 webserver but would that board and Dominator GT 7-8-7-20 be stable as a webserver?
Is there a board with the same colorscheme but with 6 memory slots?

The Classified basically represents the absolute best in enthusiast boards available on the market as we speak, it has a full 3 x16 slots and one for x8, for a physx gpu or somesuch. Top of the line hardware comes with a top of the line price:)

Wow, a clear case -- haven't seen one of those in a while. How did you like it?

I liked it a lot. It was fun to make and it lights up my room. I got the case from a friend because I parted his computer and sold the parts for him on eBay. It ran great for a cheap computer. I just hooked it up to my 32" Panasonic LCD through HDMI, looked great!

I'd been thinking about building a double-wide acrylic full tower to house two computers and sticking a KVM in it.

Nice cable management BTW ;)

I would like pics of that during the day with the lights off.

No pictures just yet but I'm now the proud owner of an AMD Athlon X2 7850 and nice ASUS 760G board.

I'll be getting a P180 mini soon. :D

This deserves an emoticon.
