I ordered direct from Apple instead of T-Mobile this year. It was a better option financially. The 30 month credit with the iPhone was a crappy deal in my opinion.
I did my personal phone the way that you described---30 month credit on an annual upgrade was just not worth it. For the business line I upgraded through T-Mobile without using the Jump program. My intention is to buy out the remaining EIP balance of $375 and sell the old device (should fetch ~$775 on Swappa) which would in in excess of the net trade-in value T-Mobile was offering with the bonus of cash in my pocket that can be applied to other expenses or paid as lump sum toward the EIP balance on the new phone without having to wait the 30 months to get it all. As you said, one must do what makes the most financial sense.

I upgrade every year. So it would be a loss of over half the trade in value. So I am selling my own phone to a friend. I can et 400 cash for it and pay it towards my new phone from Apple I just paid outright.

I ordered my phone at 5:10am via Apple website. Smooth as a hot knife though butter. It was actually scary how easy it was to order this year.

Everyone using T-Mobile. You need to know that to take advantage of 5G network you MUST get a new sim card.

eSIM for the win!

Is T-Mobile supporting ESIM? I was told they don't for post subscribers.

I looked it up. That would suck if you had to wipe your phone. You have to go into the store to set it up every time.

I usually backup my phone then use iCloud restore on the new one. Which I think activates the eSim? I don't remember having issues with getting the eSim going last year. Just getting it unlocked to use my Xfinity Mobile Sim.

I have the R15 sim already in hand. I picked it up yesterday. I forgot to let everyone know about it because T-Mobile was keeping it quiet for some reason. I came across it by accident. I am going to start a youtube channel dedicated to T-Mobile and Apple I think. I have been wanting to do something like that for a long time. I think my "no bullsh*t attitude" would be great.

Yeah it works fine and is easy to transfer from one phone to another as long as you have both phones in your physical control.

I ordered from Apple but chose the T-Mobile acitvated Pro. Kind of glad I did now that I am reading this thread. I was just going to put my X SIM in the 12 Pro but I guess that wouldn't have been ideal after reading this thread. Thanks for all the great info.

Tmo did me right, potentially. I paid $700 for my iPhone XS used. If they are going to give me $500, $200 out of pocket ain't bad for two years of use. I really liked the idea of the mini, but I don't think I could handle the poorer battery life. The XS battery sucks, and the constant dropped calls and ****** cell service (not Tmo's fault - its the phone) makes the decision easier. If they end up not giving me the full credit, I can just return the 12. Stoked about the better form factor.

Ordered a 128, blue 12. No pro. Now to just convince the wife to upgrade too.

Once you get your new iPhone, let the old one transfer everything to it. In this process, the eSIM allocation will also switch over to the new one.

There's a manual way to initiate the process too from within the eSIM settings iirc. You won't need to goto a B&M store for it.

I always been the type to look at the cost per usage like you said. You paid $700 for it used, and now will get $500 back. $200 for 2 years is dead cheap within the cell phone world for a modernly newer phone.

I thought its was something like that. Like I said I remember it being dead simple for my 11 Pro Max.

very similar situation for me. made moving from an xs to the 12pro almost a wash as far as cost/value factoring in 2 years of use. just the upgrade away from an intel modem is going to be a massive deal, so i'm really looking forward to putting the XS days behind me.

You could actually setup autopay with Apple Pay. I have it on mine and it gives me 3% back

Thanks. I just switched it to auto pay with ApplePay. The 3% saves me $5.55 a month. I am now paying about $35/month for my unlimited plan including Netflix HD. Have not been able to get it anywhere lower then that.
